         We’ve all heard the stories where a friend or family member tells us how they learned to swim. They explain that someone threw them into a pool or the middle of a lake and told them to swim to the edge.

          When you hear those stories usually there's only one of two outcomes. The person figured it out and learned how to swim, or it became a traumatic experience in their life and, as a result, they became afraid of water.

    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/div&gt;&#xD;

          As an entrepreneur, or a beginning digital marketer our experience with marketing online can be very similar to the experience many have when they were thrown into the middle of a body of water and told that's how they were going to learn to swim.

          My formative years were spent in Hawaii and swimming came as naturally as walking and talking. It was just a constant feature in my life. Despite this, when I was 12 my mother signed me up to take swim safety lessons. Yes, I could swim, but I needed skilled instruction to know how to handle an emergency in the water to save my life or the life of a fellow swimmer. That instruction ensured that I had a solid foundation to not only have fun, but also be safe in the water.

            Google search for your business and see if the “Google Box” shows up on the right with your business information (if you’re on a PC or laptop). On mobile you may have to go through the Google Maps app.

      &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;ol&gt;&#xD;
        &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
          
             Once you click to claim your business Google will give you some options to verify ownership.
            &#xD;
        &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
        &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
          
             Follow the ownership steps to have your business added to your Google account

          &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
          &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;

              Go through the 1-2-3 setup with Google.

              Once you "own" your business listing and you visit the Google My Business page you will be guided through the setup of your business page. It may seem tedious, but it will be worth it.

          &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
          &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
        &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;ol&gt;&#xD;
        &lt;li&gt;&#xD;

          &lt;/i&gt;&#xD;
          
             If you already have a website, do all of the steps to set up the business page EXCEPT the “website” setup. Skip that part of the setup process.
             &#xD;

          &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
        &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;/ol&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
        &lt;span&gt;&#xD;

              Posts.
             &#xD;
          &lt;/b&gt;&#xD;
          
              Once you get your Google My Business page setup with your business information, photos, logos, etc. create a few posts. They don't have to be long. If you currently post to Instagram or Facebook, repurpose that content for your Google My Business page. Make sure to include a photo. Your posts will be shown in your “Google Box” that appears on the right of organic searches when someone searches for your company. These posts will help you with your company's organic search results.
             &#xD;
          &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
          &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
        &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
        &lt;b&gt;&#xD;
          
             Products.
            &#xD;
        &lt;/b&gt;&#xD;
        
             If you offer a service or a physical product, add it to the “Products” section of your Google My Business page. You can add direct links in the product description. Add links to your website so users will see your products or services on your preferred platform. Your products listed on your Google My Business page will be shown in your “Google Box” and will help with your organic search results.
