Meet our co-founder

Hailo's story begins with Santiago Velasquez

Our co-founder, Santi, is a blind innovator who transformed his transit challenges into solutions. Facing a system that often failed to accommodate his needs, Santiago co-founded Hailo to bridge the accessibility gap in public transportation.

In 2018, I missed an exam because three buses passed me by. I was at the stop early - high-vis vest on, Guide Dog by my side, route number raised - and I’d even called ahead. But without a clear signal at the right moment, drivers focused on traffic didn’t see me.

That day delayed my degree by six months and made me feel like a second-class citizen. Sadly, it wasn’t the first time.

Hailo was born to change that - making public transport accessible, predictable, and fair for everyone.
