What we aim to solve
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Low-income Housing
Volunteers of America’s elderly service programs provide very low-income seniors with affordable housing while creating opportunities that promote healthy, independent, and high quality living.
We are committed to cost-effective, quality housing with programs that meet the social needs of the elderly while maintaining a positive environment for personal growth and fulfillment. Our complexes operate as HUD 202 PRAC housing programs serving very low-income senior citizens and offer spacious, one-bedroom unfurnished apartments with kitchens, climate control, and free on-site laundry, as well as many on-site activities.
Additionally, those with qualifying incomes and a Serious Mental Illness who need long-term assistance, Volunteers of America operates several housing facilities in Wyoming. These facilities provide varying levels of support and depend on collaboration between Volunteers of America and individual residents.
Correctional Services
Volunteers of America Northern Rockies run Booth Hall, an adult community corrections program, in collaboration with various agencies. Our facility accommodates 144 individuals (128 men and 16 women). Each participant receives a personalized plan for successful reintegration, including financial assistance for bills and restitution across Wyoming.
76% of clients are successful, with no new arrests, and are gainfully employed each year.
Youth Services
Volunteers of America Northern Rockies got its start serving youth in Sheridan, WY more than 35 years ago. We operate youth homes in both Sheridan and Rawlins, Wyoming. We also provide services to young adults experiencing homelessness to help them successfully transition to life on their own.
Behavioral Health Services
At Volunteers of America, we strive to help our clients become better versions of themselves. Whether you are in crisis or in need of long-term assistance to live with a diagnosis, Volunteers of America can offer support.
Our team of professional and highly trained staff works with each client to understand their mental health goals. With compassion and a commitment to excellence, we customize our approach to each unique individual to provide them with a continuum of care that is suited to their needs.
With services that range from counseling to psychiatry, from crisis stabilization to long-term housing, VOA is ready to help with any stage in the mental health journey.
Ministry & Outreach
A Ministry of Service - Seeing broken people physically, emotionally, and spiritually healed, thriving in their faith community as beloved citizens in Christ’s Kingdom.
Veteran Services
Through our Veteran Services programs, Volunteers of America of the Northern Rockies provides several programs that are designed to address the needs of our Veteran populations. We strive to provide a hand-up, not a hand-out, to Veterans in need, and work with other community resources, including the VA, to end Veteran homelessness.
Community Enhancement
Volunteers of America Northern Rockies provides a value-based program, targeted at fifth and sixth grade youth through direct involvement and mentoring with a variety of law enforcement and criminal justice professionals.
Camp POSTCARD (Peace Officers Striving To Create And Reinforce Dreams) is a free week-long camp designed to benefit the most deserving fifth and sixth graders. Contact us for the upcoming dates for our next Camp POSTCARD!
Community Health Services
Promoting health and wellness in our community is a priority at Volunteers of America. Through various programs, we strive to provide resources to help individuals become healthier versions of themselves.
We work tirelessly to ensure those affected by HIV are able to live a healthy and fulfilled life. Serving the community through the implementation of the HIV Prevention and Ryan White (Part B) programs. These programs provide education, counseling, and referrals for those who are at risk of contracting HIV and those with a positive HIV status. VOA HIV Health Services teaches prevention and risk reduction methods to limit the chances a person has of contracting HIV. Those living with HIV are connected with vital resources to ensure they receive the treatment needed to live a healthy and full life.
Addiction Treatment
Our Rehabilitation Services Are Rebuilding Whole Lives
Our Addiction Treatment programs are dedicated to serving individuals, families, and communities of Wyoming and the surrounding region by providing comprehensive alcohol and drug treatment services. We offer a full continuum of care including assessment services, outpatient services, social detox services, and residential care.
Homeless Services
The Community Outreach Program is a lifeline for our neighbors struggling with homelessness. Volunteers of America is committed to extending a hand up to those in need through homeless prevention, rapid rehousing, and emergency shelter.
Additionally, Mommy’s Closet in Rapid City is a free crisis resource provider that lends a helping hand to low-income families with children up to the age of five. Families with young children have specific needs that some parents struggle to meet, and Mommy’s Closet provides assistance by supplying necessities to help take care of babies and children. Mommy’s Closet is a safe place for parents to come and problem-solve issues surrounding parenting, housing, education, employment, and general finances.
