Case Studies

Client: Corporate FM HQ
Located in London’s West End, the prestigious site accommodates approximately 900 employees daily, alongside hundreds of visitors, and includes open-plan offices, meeting and conference suites, hospitality areas and modern washroom facilities.
Sector Challenge
As a global blue-chip organisation, the client required consistently high cleaning standards, discreet daytime support, and measurable efficiencies across productivity, cost control, and sustainability—without disrupting a busy, high-profile workplace.
Solution
GSF implemented a flow-cleaning methodology, supported by intensive staff training, refined shift patterns and the use of high-productivity equipment including backpack vacuums, compact scrubber dryers and battery carpet sweepers. Dedicated daytime housekeepers and
revised supervisor handovers improved communication, responsiveness and standards. Waste management and consumables were fully reviewed, introducing more sustainable alternatives.
Results
Productivity increased by 15%, consumable costs fell by nearly 20%, and recycling rates improved from 55% to 75%. Enhanced communication, sustainability and visible standards delivered a consistently high-quality service aligned with the client’s expectations.
Client: Large European drug manufacturing site
A leading pharmaceutical manufacturer producing consumer healthcare products, controlled drugs and specialist liquid and hand cream medicines. The site operates within highly regulated GMP environments, where hygiene, compliance and process control are critical to patient safety and business continuity.
Sector Challenge
Following first-generation outsourcing and a TUPE transfer of 30 operatives, the client faced a significant cultural and operational shift. The challenge was to integrate the cleaning team into a new FM model, standardise procedures across manufacturing, laboratory and controlled drug areas, and improve efficiency, whilst maintaining full audit readiness and regulatory compliance.
Solution
GSF stabilised the service through a like-for-like mobilisation before introducing SOPs, task cards and structured supervision. Pharmaceutical R&D specialists conducted a mock MHRA audit, identifying and addressing compliance risks at board level. GSF introduced greener enzyme-based chemicals, QR-code hazard reporting, sustainable consumables, embedded high-level and deep cleans, new machinery investment and a dedicated on-site Cleaning Hub.
Results
Audit preparedness and compliance confidence improved significantly. Cleaning standards were elevated across all environments, sustainability credentials strengthened, and a resilient, future ready operation was established, delivering measurable value without compromising safety or regulatory integrity.

Client: UK Airport (Voted best UK Airport by Conde Nast Traveller)
A major international transport hub serving business and leisure passengers in a highly secure, operationally intensive environment.
Sector Challenge
When GSF was awarded the cleaning and allied services contract in 2014, the site relied heavily on temporary labour, with 70% of operatives on agency or zero-hours contracts. Staff required escorting due to temporary passes, severely impacting productivity, morale and security. Mobilising a 24/7 airport operation while maintaining standards presented a significant challenge.
Solution
GSF redesigned the operation around three structured shifts, morning, afternoon and evening, each with dedicated management and supervision. A bespoke mobilisation team supported the transition, with senior managers working alongside operatives on day one to embed new methodologies. Investment in permanent staff, zonal cleaning, scrubber dryers, and a lean management structure transformed service delivery, supported by a dedicated help desk for compliance and administration.
Results
The site now operates with 100% fully vetted GSF staff on unescorted passes, delivering higher standards, improved security, and a better work-life balance. Productivity increased, costs were reduced by 5%, and the contract was renewed for a further five years, with an option to extend, demonstrating sustained performance and client confidence.
