Macleod Professional Centre

The Macleod Trail Professional Building was developed as a purpose-built healthcare facility, designed to support a range of non-acute medical and wellness services. The building accommodates physiotherapists, massage therapists, a walk-in clinic, and other complementary health-related practices, creating a flexible and efficient environment for both practitioners and patients.

The project is a four-storey commercial building with three levels of underground parking, located on a highly constrained urban site along Macleod Trail. A significant grade change of approximately three metres across the site presented both challenges and opportunities. By locating the parkade entrance at the rear of the building, the natural slope was leveraged to allow vehicles to enter the underground parking directly from grade, minimizing visual impact along the street frontage.

The site was strategically selected for its proximity to public transit, located one block from an LRT station. To improve accessibility for transit users navigating the steep sidewalk along the south edge of the site, a continuous handrail was integrated into the streetscape design.

Architecturally, the building is clad in standing seam steel with Kingspan insulated panels, creating a durable and contemporary exterior expression. Punched window openings are carefully proportioned and aligned with the cladding module to reinforce strong vertical rhythms across the façade. The fourth floor is set back from the primary frontage, creating a rooftop patio that provides outdoor amenity space while reducing the building’s perceived mass at street level.
