I think the warning about conf.py is a red herring.

I also see an error in the log:

sphinx.errors.ExtensionError: source_parser for 'md' is already registered

I don't know, but it might be worth a try. I'll add a commit to the branch to see if the test actually passing.

I compared the docs/conf.py to the same file in other library, and I have speculative changes now.
