Our goal is to demystify AI
The Elements of AI is a series of free online courses created by MinnaLearn and the University of Helsinki. We want to encourage as broad a group of people as possible to learn what AI is, what can (and can’t) be done with AI, and how to start creating AI methods. The courses combine theory with practical exercises and can be completed at your own pace.

Part 1
Introduction to AI
An Introduction to AI is a free online course for everyone interested in learning what AI is, what is possible (and not possible) with AI, and how it affects our lives – with no complicated math or programming required.
Part 2
Building AI
Building AI is a free online course where you’ll learn about the actual algorithms that make creating AI methods possible. Some basic Python programming skills are recommended to get the most out of the course.
Our story
In spring 2018, the company MinnaLearn and the University of Helsinki came together with the aim of helping people to be empowered, not threatened, by artificial intelligence. Largely encouraged by the European Commission, they built "Elements of AI" to reach at least 1% of the population and teach people from a wide range of backgrounds the basics of artificial intelligence.
End of 2019, the Luxembourg Government, via it’s” Innovative Initiatives” entity approached the Finnish institutions to become a partner in the mission to deploy Elements of AI for Luxembourg needs. The major objective of the government and the academic partners when supporting Elements of AI is to help demystifying AI and to provide the country with an offer that is corresponding to the skills needs of the industry and research.

The course has spread worldwide, with graduating students from over 170 countries.

University of Luxembourg

The following three partner institutions are departments of the Ministry of Education, Children and Youth actively participate in and support the project:
IFEN
Department in charge of professional integration and continuing education of teachers, schools and socio-educational establishments in Luxembourg.
SFP
The Service National de la formation professionnelle (SFP) is the Ministry of Education, Children and Youth’s responsible department for Initial Vocational Education and Training (IVET), Continuing Vocational Education and Training (CVET) and the Validation of Prior Learning.
DLH
Launched in May 2022 by the Ministry of National Education, Children and Youth, the Digital Learning Hub was created to contribute to the government’s mission to reduce the digital skills gap in Luxembourg (and the Greater Region). In this context, the Digital Learning Hub has two objectives: to further expedite the digital transformation of the country by way of (continuing) education and to help fill the severe need for skilled IT-trained professionals on the job market. Currently, the Digital Learning Hub offers 238 training courses on various areas of IT and technology.
WIDE ANDCO
WIDE ANDCO is a social enterprise (S.I.S) offering expertise, training and programmes in the fields of gender equality, digital skills, and entrepreneurship.
WIDE is also the home of the Women in Digital Empowerment initiative, active in Luxembourg since 2013.
