When a heart attack hit, DRHCs ER stabilized me, and within hours I was airlifted for life-saving surgery. Fifteen years and two more cardiac events later, I’m still here because our front-line teams are world-class. That’s one of the reasons why I’ve spent the last seven years on the Dryden Regional Health Services Foundation board helping raise funds to make a difference in the level of care our hospital is able to provide. I was visiting family in Dryden when I started noticing some pain in my abdomen. What began as a dull ache quickly evolved into something I couldn’t ignore, and my family urged me to go to the ER. I was hesitant at first, as I’m accustomed to the long wait times back home.
I was pleasantly surprised at the speed at which I was seen and thank goodness I went! I had a ruptured appendix, and had I delayed much longer, who knows where I’d have ended up. The team rushed me into emergency surgery and had me in recovery within hours.
What stood out to me was the care and compassion the team showed every step of the way and things were explained clearly and in a reassuring manner. While I can’t recommend anyone get appendicitis, I can recommend the Dryden ER if you happen to have the misfortune of dealing with it.
