There is often a noticeable amount of time between my reading a message and my response. I can't respond to every message, but generally if you send more than a sentence or two I will at least send a 'not interested' or ask for more information.
I am much more likely to respond to interesting and witty messages than to generic lines or copy pasta. Interesting is far more important to me than well behaved.
