WOW...its been like a year since I was here. Life is busy and grand!

We are still actively looking for that certain someone and yet are content to wait.

It seems like SPLF seems to inspire me to peek in this place. Problem is that I am a truly addicted profile surfer! UGH...take away my keyboard I have too much to do!

SPLF is over and done... I say that with mixed emotions. I love doing the dungeon, seeing people, attending a class or two. This year I actually even played with someone I had never met before. We are preparing for next years dungeon already. I am quite glad it is done, but now it is just time to work just as hard on other things. I love that it never ends. I hate that it never ends.

ok...so it is a little disturbing when you are browsing the photos on CM and find yourself in someone else's profile pics. I just don't expect to find myself smiling up at me!

So, you have decided you want a live-in slave. Great choice! Are you sure you can afford it?

When it comes to a live-in slave there are generally two choices. One that works in the home and one that works outside of it. Let?s face it. No one wants a slave who just sits at home and eats bon bons. If they are home they should be keeping it absolutely clean, taking care of chores, running errands and a hundred other activities. On the other hand, if you want your slave to work outside the home you need to be realistic. No one person can work and completely maintain all household duties. Everyone needs some downtime.

So now you are trying to decide, perfect clean household or extra self sustaining income? Let?s look at just how much adding one adult person to your household costs per month.

Shelter ? If your slave came with a moving van vs. a backpack the percentage can vary. Your backpack slave sleeping in the converted closet let?s say 10% and your moving van slave at 50%. We will use the thrifty slave ideal for a bare minimum value. Let?s say your house/apt payment is $1200/mo that equal $120.00.

Utilities ? Thrifty slave minimum of 10% add up your utilities. Electric/cell phone/cable/internet/car ins/car payment/gas/water/storage unit for all the stuff not in their backpack/phone let?s say $1000 and that equal $100.

Food ? You are going to have to up the percentage for food even for the thrifty coupon cutting slave. I can bet that bread and water is not what your prospective slave signed up for. If you like to go out to eat bump it up $10-$15+ for each time. Take your monthly grocery bill divide it by the number of people in your house right now. Like this? your monthly groceries run you $500 and you have two people in your house already. That?s $250. You can shave a little for a thrifty slave and those leftovers you used to not eat that will now go to good use. Let?s say $200. Opps?.you eat out once a month and you are kind enough to take your slave with you? Add $20 ?cause it wasn?t McDonalds. $220.

Medical ? No matter how healthy they are when you get them, something will happen at some point in time. Whether a cold, yearly necessary exam, fall off a ladder and break a leg, or just allergy meds your slave will cost you. You can either provide low cost insurance, or put a little away in case. Remember that 1 trip to the hospital can cost you $5000 minimum. Let?s say insurance/savings is $200 on the low end, plus maybe they take a couple meds, $50 with insurance, some vitamins etc. We will make it an even $300.

Clothing ? If you have them running around naked all the time, they may not wear out their underwear, but they might need new socks. If you have a fetish and like to dress them up you will need to add to this of course. Thrifty slave doesn?t ask for a lot so let?s say $20 a month.

Necessities ? You like your slave squeaky clean don?t you? Shaved? Fresh Breath? This stuff may last them a few months but it still counts. Thrifty slave doesn?t get a mani/pedi so we will make this just $15 a month.

Misc ? No one wants a bored slave and they need a little fun now and again. A book, a mp3 download, movie, night out, therapy, visits home etc. You can pretty much count on $75 a month from thrifty slave even if it is just held over for next month?s yearly trip to Vegas. Hey, even thrifty slave has to have some fun.

This is bare minimum. If you send your slave to the gym, if they have a hobby, if you take trips, all those things add to it. So let?s see how much thrifty slave costs you per month. $850. A little more than $7000 a year. Still think you can afford it?

This was just a bit of a reality check for you prospective Owners out there. If you are barely squeaking by right now, then you might need to make some sacrifices. Other things to consider is how much of your own time are you already spending on those activities that thrifty slave will take over for you and how much is that time worth? You can also increase or decrease the expenditures in any number of ways. Above all, remember you are responsible for that which you own.

So I have a few words to say on the word "slave". It is all a matter of semantics. Let me shed some insight on what the word means to me. A slave must be more, not less. More competant. More intelligent. More capable. More dedicated. It has nothing to do with giving up all your worldly goods or limits. What it means is you choose to obey, to serve, to be the best you can.

Also, I am slave to a wonderful man. Yes, we are also poly. We have an additional D/s family member who currently lives with us as well. No, I am not collared. That will come in time. This is our life and we live it proudly.
