Through our Sea Grant designation, CCU plays a vital role in coastal stewardship by conducting research and providing instruction on Waties Island, one of the last undeveloped barrier islands in South Carolina.

CCU’s research fleet takes students and faculty beyond the classroom, providing access to regional waterways. Our fleet of eight boats support advanced research in marine science, coastal ecology, and environmental monitoring, advancing CCU’s mission to explore, understand, and protect our coastal ecosystems.

As the first Space Satellite Program in South Carolina, we are pioneering advancements in space technology and satellite deployment to address critical challenges facing our regional coastal communities in South Carolina and the Southeast.
