Server sprawl is a condition when multiple as well as idle servers share a large portion of server space and consume more resources than what they usually house. Usual factors contributing to server sprawl include the procurement of a wide range of cheaper, low-end servers and the use of dedicating servers to one application. Most probably, the server sprawl may be seen compressed to a single server room, but it can in some cases be extended to fit into multiple facilities in extensive geographical regions, particularly in instances where one organization has obtained another one or where two or more organizations have united.
