Let’s Talk About It

We are CHOW, Culinary Hospitality Outreach and Wellness. CHOW is “us helping us”: a non-profit mental health and wellness support group for people who work in food, beverage, and hospitality. We hold multiple weekly group discussion meetings online and in person, and offer classes in workplace wellness and both suicide and overdose prevention. We also can connect you with dozens of resources. We lift each other up so that we lose no one else to mental health struggles, addiction, or suicide.

What Can We Help With Today?

Welcome to CHOW! We have loads of programs and support for food/beverage/hospitality workers. Join us for Group Discussion Meetings, mental health education, Scripts for Challenging Conversations, Workplace Wellness Toolkit, self assessments to support you, and so much more!

These programs have been created based on what you, our community, has expressed a need for. Explore our resources and programs to find the tools and community you need to prioritize your well-being. Click on any topic to learn more about how we can support you today!

CHOW group discussions are open to all – chefs, servers, bussers, bartenders, owners, suppliers, farmers, writers, dishwashers, and industry veterans. Virtual meetings can be accessed from any location, please be aware of the time zones listed.

Our meetings have a topic or theme to consider and discuss. They begin with an ice breaker question, so we can get to know each other better, and move into a conversation about shared experiences. We have an “EXPO” (who is a person who has walked the path of recovery from mental illness/substance use disorder and is trained to assist others in their recovery) in each meeting who can guide the conversation. Sharing is VOLUNTARY and sobriety is NOT required.

Through 2024, CHOW is offering a unique Mental Health Amuse’ Course. This four-hour training course is backed by scientific research and offers tangible tools for self-assessment. It is accredited by COPA, providing validation of its quality and effectiveness, for 4 continuing education credit hours.

This course is created for food, beverage and hospitality workers BY food, beverage and hospitality workers.

If you or someone you know is experiencing a mental health emergency, 988 has been designated as the new three-digit dialing code that will route callers to the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline.

💚 Build a healthier, more supportive workplace together.

CHOW aims to enhance staff education and foster discussions on important topics by implementing a weekly text service for owners/operators/managers. These texts, intended for daily review during pre and post-shift meetings, will provide educational content and stimulate conversations on mental health and substance use disorder within teams.

By incorporating these discussions into daily routines, CHOW seeks to destigmatize these topics, empower individuals to seek help, and promote a supportive environment for staff and their peers.

Join us in piloting this project aimed to improve issues affecting workplace wellness!
