Why UK Businesses Are Being Targeted by Cyber Attacks

The UK has been ranked as the third most targeted country globally for cyber attacks. Yet one of the most common things I still hear from SMBs is: “We’re too small to matter.”

That misconception is dangerous. If you’re operating on that assumption, there’s a good chance you’re underestimating where your real exposure sits. This is not due to neglect, but because the way cyber attacks work today doesn’t quite match how most people think about risk.

There are two sentences I still hear all the time: “We’re too small to be a target”, and “We passed Cyber Essentials last year, we’ll be fine.” But from 27 April 2026, both of those statements could put your business in some seriously hot water.

Cyber criminals are no longer manually picking victims. They’re using AI-driven automation to continuously scan thousands of IP addresses and cloud environments. They don’t care about your size, brand, or turnover. All they care about is one thing: whether there’s a digital door they can walk through.

Cyber Security Risk Assessments: How SMBs Can Avoid Common Pitfalls

With cyber attacks being the most prevalent and sophisticated that they have ever been, most SMBs know they should be doing cyber security risk assessments. And many already have: there’s usually a report somewhere, a checklist ticked, and a quiet sense of reassurance that “we’ve dealt with cyber risk.”

Yet breaches still happen: ransomware is running rampant, invoices are getting hijacked, and accounts are constantly compromised. The uncomfortable truth is this: in 2026, many cyber security risk assessments give businesses a false sense of security (which is usually more dangerous than knowing you have a problem).

Leased Line vs Broadband: Which Is Best for Business in 2026?

Whenever I speak to UK business owners and IT managers, the same question keeps coming up: “Do I really need a leased line, or is broadband enough for my business?” On the surface, the decision might appear to be simple: broadband looks cheaper and easier to set up. But what many don’t see at first is the hidden cost of slow uploads, unreliable connections, and unexpected downtime.

Azure vs On-Premise: Cost, Compliance and Performance Compared (2026)

As someone responsible for IT in a UK SMB today, you’re navigating a perfect storm: rising cyber threats, growing compliance pressure, ageing servers approaching end-of-life, and a board expecting you to “unlock AI” without increasing risk or cost. At some point, the same question lands on your desk: “Should we move to Azure or stay on-prem?”

Incident Response Planning for SMBs: The Most Overlooked Risks

For many SMBs, cyber security still feels like something that happens to other people. Larger organisations, regulated enterprises, or companies with household-name brands. So when budgets tighten or priorities shift, incident response planning is often one of the first things to move down the priority list. Not because leaders don’t care, but because it doesn’t feel particularly urgent.

But it is. The problem is that cyber attacks aren’t reserved for the big players and don’t wait for the “right time” to strike. And when an incident does happen, the damage is rarely caused by the initial breach alone. It’s caused by confusion, delay, missed signals, and a lack of clear ownership in the hours that follow.

How Much Does Microsoft 365 Business Really Cost in 2026?

If you run an SMB in the UK, you already know how essential Microsoft 365 is. It’s the cornerstone of your workday: powering email, collaboration, and security. But here’s the thing: while the licence fee is transparent enough, the real cost can be more opaque. Too many businesses either overspend on licences they don’t need, or cut corners and end up paying more elsewhere.

Back to Basics: Common Cyber Attacks and How to Reduce Your Risk

Cyber attacks have become part of the background noise of running a business. Data breaches, ransomware incidents, and scams regularly make the headlines, yet for many SMB leaders, it’s still unclear what actually puts their organisation at risk. The volume of information doesn’t help. If anything, it often makes cyber security feel more complex, more technical, and harder to prioritise than it needs to be.

How Much Does a Leased Line Cost in the UK in 2026?

If you run a business today, you already know how much a slow or unreliable internet connection can cripple operations. Cloud apps lag, remote calls drop, and productivity grinds to a halt — all because your broadband can’t keep up. The truth is, reliable connectivity is no longer a luxury: it’s what keeps modern businesses, well, in business. That’s why so many UK companies are now looking at leased lines. But the first question I always get is the same: “How much does a leased line actually cost?”

The Legacy Tech Price Rise Is Here: Why Copper Costs More in 2026

It’s easy to assume your technology setup is doing its job when your phones still ring, your broadband connects, and your alarm line hasn’t failed you yet. For many UK businesses, legacy services have simply become part of the furniture, and the longer you’ve had it, the harder it is to part with. It’s familiar, dependable, and seemingly cheaper than the disruption of change.
