Atlanta United FC History

Atlanta United has grown from being one of the newest teams in Major League Soccer to its most supported. Since starting league play in 2017, the club has led MLS in attendance each year and owns over half of the Top 10 most attended matches in MLS history. Awarded a franchise on April 16, 2014, Atlanta United is owned by Arthur M. Blank. The club's opening season in 2017 coincided with the opening of Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

Originally managed by Gerardo "Tata" Martino, who led the national teams of Paraguay and Argentina, as well as FC Barcelona, before joining Atlanta in 2016, Atlanta United made the postseason in each of its first two seasons and won the 2018 MLS Cup. Under coach Frank de Boer, the club won two trophies: the 2019 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup and the 2019 Campeones Cup, the latter of which saw Atlanta United become the first MLS club to win, defeating Mexico's Club América. Atlanta has since qualified for the playoffs three times, in 2021, 2023 and 2024.

    Atlanta United MatchDay

    by Ang@ATL on 3/24/26Mercedes-Benz Stadium - Atlanta

We had a really good time and arrived early to do a food tour of the vendors in Section 100. The fan parade and Live DJ prior to the game was amazing. We had great seats in section 104, row 10, which allowed us to be a part of Atlanta's Fan section and enjoy a field view. I highly recommond attending the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta you will not be disappointed.

    50/50

by Love my seat on 3/19/26Mercedes-Benz Stadium - Atlanta

Stadium was a good venue. Food prices were reasonable. Fan shop was greatly overpriced. the game was great since we won. But all that good experience was destroyed when we left the Blue Lot Traffic situaton in Atlanta is inexcusable. Direct traffic lanes into and out of that Benz area SHOULD HAVE BEEN DESIGNED WHEN YOU BUILT THE STADIUM> WE SPENT 40 MINUTES JUST GOING 1. 2 MILES. With the world coming to Atlanta's doorsteps in three months, it will be embarassing for Atlanta to have left off ease of transportation and SIGNAGE as fundamentals for tourist. YOU NEED OVERHEAD SIGNS throughout Atlanta! THIS IS THE 21ST CENTURY, NOT THE 1950'S. Do hope you plan to rent some type of mega fields for parking and provide bus or trolley service to and from the games.

    Atl Untd game

by Samuel on 3/10/26Mercedes-Benz Stadium - Atlanta

Had a great time injoy every second of it. My son and his friend had a blast. They attempted the bullseye game for a moment than went on kicking playing a pickup game with the kids until game time. They dancing and singing while we waited for the game to start.

    Game day experience

by Eric on 3/10/26Mercedes-Benz Stadium - Atlanta

I bought opening day tickets to see Atlanta United play. Make sure you know what goes on around Mercedes Benz Stadium before you go to a game. I knew the Hawks were playing but did not know there was a cheerleading championship going on. Parking was limited. I had a pre-paid pass to the The Center parking deck and was turned away due to the deck being full. So I had to drive around to find parking. Finally when I found a place to park I walked to the stadium and missed half the game. Then the rain came after the game was over and we got soaked. Not a great game day experience. Again, always know what is going on when you go to see a professional game.
