More than meets the I: The light, the dark and the beautiful (Poetry and photography to make you wonder) (English Edition) Kindle-editie
Every person longs for a meaningful life that has value. We shape this in our own way by attuning ourselves to the value of the things that surround us, and discovering what is essential to our being and what is not. Through the fusion of photography and philosophical poetry, mother Greetje and daughter Angela show us how we can do that.
Angela’s poems are the stuff life is made of, put under a microscope. She makes the ordinary magical. She makes you look at life sideways, upside down, inside out – dissects it cleanly with words sharp as any scalpel, makes you take a close, hard look at things you take for granted. She possesses the art of being able to condense a complicated thing into a luminous image that’s as profound as it is simple, using the simplest of words.
Greetje is a passionate art photographer with a unique and recognizable style. Her work embodies the “visual art of minimalism". She regularly alternates abstract subjects with atmospheric images of nature and intriguing photos where people are central - all this with a meticulous eye for the aesthetic experience or the clarity of the photo. Her works are gems of sophisticated beauty and emotional purity that will touch many art lovers…
Full stop
I don't know about the full stop, really,
it seems so harsh sometimes, abrupt,
a monologue of silence
I don't care for the full stop, really,
if the universe has no end,
why should a sentence have one

Aul, BarbaraBeoordeeld in Duitsland op 10 november 20205,0 van 5 sterren beauty in the I as well as in the eye...
Formaat: Kindle-editieGeverifieerde aankoopThere is depth in being human and there is beauty in being human. Both becomes obvious in this book. Togetherness seems to be the hidden agenda on this book that's a joy to discover. Both light and shade find themselves and enjoy plenty of space in the pictures and the poems. If both were not stunning on their own, the effect of their coming together is breathtaking. As much as you'll enjoy the virtual version, I can only strongly recommend getting the paperback version - worth the investment. It's a joy to look through the book thoroughly or flip through it if you need a quick break from stressing out. And last but not least the togetherness of this family project can be felt in the whole book - its lyrics, its pictures and its editing. In short - it's done with love.

Corinne BasmaisonBeoordeeld in Frankrijk op 5 november 20205,0 van 5 sterren The magic of the pictures matches the depth of the poems perfectly
Formaat: Kindle-editieGeverifieerde aankoopI was told that the hardcover edition is mindblowing, and I don't doubt it for a minute!
Having 'only' seen the laptop copy, I am already won over by the magic of the pictures, which unsurprisingly, if one considers the bond between authors, matches the poems perfectly.
Often, as I came upon a new page, I was struck by the beauty that jumped out at me, left without breath. The brilliance of the composition, the choice of colours, the emotions conveyed by Greetje's pictures is impressive.
As for the words... I had already read many poems by Angela van Son, so I was not surprised by the quality of her work. She didn't disappoint. She uses simple, everyday words to ask deep questions.
Many times, between the pictures and the words, I read a page and had to close the book there, to let that sink in, to let the experiences simmer within, to let the lessons be fully learnt.
This is not a book to be devoured once and done, this is a book to be savoured, where you come back for seconds, and thirds and more. And the beauty of it is, it keeps on giving every time.
Ooh! Before I forget! If you get the virtual version like me, be sure to select the 'double page' on the PDF viewer you use, to get the full experience!

Formaat: Kindle-editieGeverifieerde aankoopThe images are absolutely incredible! Some haunting, some just breathtaking and others to be interpreted by the reader. The poems and the way language is used is terrific. A work is art worth having!

Edmond WilliamsBeoordeeld in de Verenigde Staten op 18 oktober 20253,0 van 5 sterren Photography is awesome
Formaat: Kindle-editieGeverifieerde aankoopPhotography is amazing. There's beauty in black and white pics. And haunting. There's something eerie about them.
The poetry though, the font is too small to read. You can't even zoom in to read them. That's my only complaint. I assume the poetry is beautiful.
