About the authors

LCW Allingham is an author, editor and artist in the Philadelphia area. Her award winning short fiction is published across various mediums and she is actively putting out more, while she refines several novels. She is the executive editor of Speculation Publications
In 2024 she released MUSE, a horror novella, and LADY, her debut novel.
She is an avid reader and a big fan of interesting rocks. Like, weirdly so.

A lover of faerie tales, fantasy and gothic horror, a thread of the mysterious or unexpected runs through all my work. My dream is to find readers who will gather round and let me tell them stories that will become a part of their life the way they have become a part of mine.
My short fiction has appeared in numerous publications including, The Storyteller, A Fly in Amber, New Plains Review, Silly Tree Anthologies, and in the e-zines Les Bonnes Fees, The Devilfish Review, Rose Red Review and The Long Island Literary Journal. My YA novel, Losing Adam, garnered a silver medal in the Independent Publisher Book Awards and was selected as a finalist in the Eric Hoffer Book Awards.

Ef Deal is a new voice in the genre of speculative steampunk with her debut novel, Esprit de Corpse, but she is not new to publishing. Her short fiction has appeared in various magazines and ezines over the years. Her short story “Czesko,” published in the March 2006 F&SF, was given honorable mention in Gardner Dozois’ Year’s Best Science Fiction and Fantasy, which gave both her and Gardner great delight. They laughed and laughed and sipped Scotch (not cognac, alas) over the last line.
Despite her preoccupation with old-school drum and bugle corps ~ playing, composing, arranging, and teaching ~ Ef Deal can usually be found at the keyboard of her computer rather than her piano. She is Assistant Fiction Editor at Abyss & Apex magazine and edits videos for the YouTube channel Strong Women ~ Strange Worlds Quick Reads.

I enjoy writing romances because there's always a happy ending. I got hooked on the steamy novels after reading the Notebook. If I could, I'd travel all the time. Italy is one of my favorite countries to visit. For fun I play tennis and pickle ball. I’m also a huge fan of Zumba. When I'm not editing and writing, you can usually find me watching TV. Game of Thrones, Bridgerton and Outlander have all been favorites. I'm also addicted to the Bravo channel. The Housewives franchise in particular. It's like watching a train wreck.

I began writing humor pieces and essays for newspapers while working as a technical writer. Since turning to fiction, my short stories and poetry have been published in various literary journals including: Philadelphia Stories, The MacGuffin, the Schuylkill Valley Journal, Willow Review, Jewish Writing Project, Damselfly, CERASUS Magazine, Every Day Fiction, and Neshaminy: The Bucks County Historical and Literary Journal. My stories have appeared in a number of anthologies, including: Alternative Truths: Endgame; Shocking Verbs, Lawless Nouns; The Pandemic Project; and Beach Shorts.
My flash fiction piece, “By the Numbers” won Wordhaus’s Best of Science Fiction and Fantasy in 2015.
My short story collection, Finding Her Voice, was published in 2019, and my debut novel, Locked in Silence, will be coming out in February, 2024.

- Reviewed in the United States on November 21, 2023This is a nice collection of short romance stories. The stories aren’t too long to read in one sitting and are short enough they can be read if you have a short block of time (like waiting at a doctor’s office). The stories are comprised of both contemporary and paranormal romance. If you need something to read while you’re waiting your turn, check out this selection of romances.

- Reviewed in the United States on July 12, 2023Tidepool dreams: 4/5 stars. This was a very short, but very cute story about young love with a nice fantastical element to it. Props to an author that can do so much in so few words.
Tea leaves: 3/5 stars. I liked the story behind this one all right and the writing was fine, but it was also a bit far-fetched and because of the nature of the story the true romance didn’t get a chance to build.
True Romantics: 5/5 stars. I loved how such a brief story developed a relationship so well. The ending had me tearing up.
The Best Man: 2.5/5 stars. The story here was fine, except I had a problem believing that the best man and the maid of honor wouldn’t have met before the wedding day itself, especially given that they’re the groom’s brother and bride’s cousin, respectively. Also, small detail, but having the bridal march replaced with “Jar of Hearts”, Christina Perri’s hit about a failed relationship, seemed like a joke.
Shark Out of Water: 2/5 stars. I really liked the story behind this one, but the execution wasn’t so great. The writing was pretty choppy and the story rushed, and the dialogue was not something I’d ever expect to hear out of a real person’s mouth.
Muffins and Meet-Cutes: 4/5 stars. The writing was good and the story cute. The banter between Jason and Zach was a nice touch. I only wanted it to be longer.
Wildwood: 4/5 stars. I loved the story of a single mom getting together with her childhood friend. The story was heartwarming and it’s nice to have some representation of love stories for those that aren’t so young.
A Race to Finish: 5/5 stars. I may be a bit biased towards a period piece set during a ball, but the writing here was also good and a nice childhood enemies to lovers is always nice.
Tangled Web: 3.5/5 stars. This one was certainly unique, with an appearance from a “ghost” and some other far-fetched elements. But it was fun to see how all the characters were tangled up in their respective lies.
Ultimate Timeshare: 4/5 stars. This story could maybe be summed up as Outlander, but set in Ancient Greece. It was fun and cute and I love a full figured woman getting appreciated for her beauty.
Lemon Drops at Mermaid Lagoon: 3.5/5 stars. I really liked the sassiness and sarcasm of the main character and the story was cute. My only complaints were that about midway through there were a few pages where the writing jumped between past and present tense narration, and it pulled me out of the story a bit for that chunk. I also would have liked a bit more of their romance explored and it seemed to end abruptly.
Mermaid and Coyote: 4/5 stars. This was a cute tale of two fantastical beings falling in love with each other. I liked the idea of Alejandro’s were-coyote being a separate consciousness from him and how that interplay worked.
Blueberry Bells: 4.5/5 stars. I loved the descriptive language used for all of the elements of nature and how thorough they were in such a short time. There was an almost haunting edge to this story, but in the best possible way, and that fed nicely into a sense of warmth and contentedness.

- Reviewed in the United States on May 22, 2023Format: KindleI received an ARC of this book. It’s a lovely group of stories which are perfect to read this summer. I love that these stories are long enough to have substance yet short enough to finish while chilling on the beach in your beach chair, preferably with your toes in the water.
I very much enjoyed The Best Man. It’s a sweet story about finding love when there’s love in the air.
I also enjoyed Lemon Drops at Mermaid Lagoon. It’s a story of how a romantic opportunity can arise from a well-planned set-up.
For those who prefer fantasy stories there are several included in this anthology.
Wildwood, A Race to Finish and Ultimate Timeshare are all set in times past and whist-fully take you back to discover finding love remains the same throughout the ages. I think A Race To Finish was my favorite story.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 22, 2023Beach Shorts is fun, lighthearted and full of romance. All thirteen stories were well written by different authors with interesting characters, gorgeous settings and exciting plot lines. It’s perfect to read poolside, beachfront, camping or just hanging out at home.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 4, 2023A fun little read!
A compilation of feel good short stories that would be perfect to take on a trip or to read while you’re in the waiting room.
This isn’t my typical read, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. The stories are well written, albeit a bit quirky at times, but fun and easy to read through.
Solid 4 stars!

- Reviewed in the United States on May 23, 2023Format: KindleSusan Tulio finally turned the table on Speculation Publications and curated this delightfully sweet anthology perfect for reading on the beach between dips in the waves. Catch your happily ever afters here!
- Reviewed in the United States on August 21, 2023I enjoyed all the different stories. All end with a happily ever after and nothing too spicy. This really is perfect for the beach or to have something quick to read. While I did love most of the stories, the one I enjoyed the most and want more of is Lemon Drops at Mermaid Lagoon by Leigh Calvin. Great romantic summer read.
