Yuletide Truce Kindle Edition
“Yuletide Truce is warm and cozy, just what I want out of a holiday romance. Aigee is a total cinnamon roll and it was lovely to see him happy.”
~Cat Sebastian, author of The Ruin of a Rake and The Soldier’s Scoundrel
London, 1845 - It's December, Alan "Aigee" Garmond's favorite time of the year, when the window display of the small bookshop where he works fills up with crimson Christmas books and sprays of holly. Everything could be perfect — if it weren't for handsome Christopher Foreman, the brilliant writer for the fashionable magazine About Town, who has taken an inexplicable and public dislike to Aigee's book reviews.
But why would a man such as Foreman choose to target reviews published in a small bookshop's magazine? Aigee is determined to find out. And not, he tells himself, just because he finds Foreman so intriguing.
Aigee’s quest leads him from smoke-filled ale-houses into the dark, dingy alleys of one of London's most notorious rookeries. And then, finally, to Foreman. Will Aigee be able to wrangle a Yuletide truce from his nemesis?

- Reviewed in the United States on December 1, 2023Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis is an enjoyable short story that would be perfect to read a cold December evening. Aigee works for a kindly bookseller who he first apprenticed with years ago. Aigee comes from poverty, but he loves books and working in the shop. He also likes to write book reviews, especially for the upcoming Christmas season.
Aigee's nemesis is Christopher Foreman. Christopher, who works for a more prestigious literary publication, seems intent on discrediting each of Aigee's reviews as fluff pieces. Aigee had recently bested Christopher at a group drinking game and Aigee wonders if it is payback. Aigee also spotted Christopher at a secret club for men who like men, so he knows they are of the same orientation. Aigee feels cursed because he's very attracted to the man who seems intent on publicly humiliating him. When he notices the attraction is reciprocated, hope emerges. This story has a wealth of Christmas spirit, some interesting literary history, and a beautiful HFN.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 16, 2019Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI found this to be a fun, lovely book. There was the type of historical detail you don't often see in historical romance. Both of these characters were charming separately and as a couple. Short and sweet and I would definitely read more about these two.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 4, 2017Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI got a wonderful holiday vibe from this story. The setting was very 'Dickens-esque' and the writing was beautiful and quirky - much like the main character, Aigee - who has a crush on his literary nemesis - the man-pretty blond, Kit.
The insertion of real literary characters of the time - author William Makepeace Thackeray, illustrator Richard Doyle, with mentions of Dickens and others made 'Yuletide Truce' a real treat!
As a short story, it could have done without one sex scene. Still, the character development and the overall feel-good vibe made up for the over-abundance of steamy m/m sexcapades, which was actually rather endearing...coming from me, a straight, middle-aged woman. lol
- Reviewed in the United States on December 28, 2019Format: KindleA short, charming Christmasy fairytale about bookseller Alan “Aigee” & arrogant writer/reporter Christopher “Kit”. It’s more of a lust story than love. I enjoyed the quick read. However, I would have wanted Kit’s character more fully developed. Also, I didn’t buy his traipsing to the rookery alone. He was a man about town, he should be aware of the seedy area.

Format: KindleVerified PurchaseWhat makes a man pick on and ridicule another under the guise of book reviews? Arrogant Kit Foreman seems to get joy out of railing Aigee, maybe he'll get his comeuppance when one day he wanders into a seedy side of London. A sweet Christmassy tale of young Aigee, who pulled himself up out of the gutter and into a fairly civilized life only to face sneering comments to his book reviews. A short but rather sweet story.
