The Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) is committed to providing a world-class education to the children of America’s service members and eligible civilians.

DoDEA’s Research, Accountability, and Evaluation division identified a need for robust research support and advising on strategic data warehouse solution to further their mission. As part of an expert team, AEM provided specialized research and data services to inform both policy and practice decisions.

Faced with siloed systems and inconsistent definitions, AmeriCorps needed a cohesive data strategy to support its nationwide programs.

AmeriCorps—an agency whose staff and grantees serve local communities across every U.S. state and territory—recognized that aging platforms and fragmented data practices limited visibility into its impact on education, disaster response, and senior services. In response, AmeriCorps appointed Andrea Gibbons as its first Chief Data Officer (CDO) to build data management capacity and foster a shared culture of trusted information.

The Evidence Act requires changes in how federal agencies manage and use information, leading to a more strategic use of data.

The Department of Education (ED) oversees a large body of data spread across multiple systems and principal offices. A designated High Impact Service Provider, ED manages a $1.3 trillion loan portfolio and a grant portfolio totaling hundreds of billions of dollars. To meet the new federal requirements, ED's new Chief Data Officer (CDO) sought to understand where investments and updates would need to be made.

They work to improve lives by educating the underserved, promoting available health and economic security programs at both the state and federal level, and facilitating access to these programs. Millions of people rely on NCOA to gain access to programs and services, get online help, and participate in advocacy efforts.

COVID-19 led to a surge in unemployment insurance claims without modern precedent. To meet the surge in requests, state and federal systems needed to maintain high availability and reliability.

For the last decade, AEM has supported the State Information Data Exchange System (SIDES), which has modernized the exchange of information between employers/their third-party administrators (TPAs) and State Unemployment Insurance (UI) agencies. We developed the software to support web services and manual requests, spanning six response websites and one administrative website that reports on all data exchanges.

AEM has logged hundreds of thousands of records through helpdesks, ranging from Department of Defense IT support to Department of Education data submission support, and used that data to provide new operational and strategic understanding.

Project | Commissioning Facilities for the Washington Gas Light Company

Owned by the Washington Gas Light Company, the Springfield Operations Center includes a 180,000 square-foot office building, a 75,000 square-foot industrial warehouse facility, and miscellaneous support structures.

AEM was called upon to affirm the integrity of this expansive campus, which serves more than one million customers and supports natural gas distribution operations across metropolitan Washington, D.C. The Springfield Operations Center relied upon AEM’s technical, managerial, and evaluative skills throughout this project.
