What follows is a count of the numbers of questions asked by God and Job repsectively in the book of Job. My count is simply a tally of the number of question-marks found in the ESV, which, from what I can tell, is consistent in its treatment of the text. For instance, it has no question marks (contra some other translations) when there are no question-indicators in the Hebrew (e.g., 38.21), only one question mark when a verse is joined with an ‘and’ or an ‘or’ (e.g., 38.29, 36), and, in the absence of a conjuction, two question marks (e.g., 38.33). In total, Job asks a total of 122 questions, while God asks Job a total of 61. Hence, Job asks twice as many questions as God, while God gives Job twice as many possessions as he previously had (42.10).
