ESCAPED REALITIES

Long time no post...

Hey all, sorry I haven't been around much. To be honest, I've been on LJ less and less, lately. I don't mind if anyone wants to unfriend me, I'm actually going to be doing a f'list cut myself soon.

Now on to news.

• I'm still working nights at the Walmart, full time since January. I still enjoy it, and get along great with my coworkers.
• I've been planning to move for the last few months, although things have been making it hard. I keep having to push it back. But I'm not giving up. I will move, hopefully by the end of the summer.
• Yesterday (May 4th), I met gublers for the first time! We went to a book fair (with my sister, Jenny). It was awesome! It was my first time meeting an LJ friend, and I loved it. I felt a little awkward at first, but I guess that's normal. But we talked and I think that it turned out amazing in the end. Im hoping we can do it again, soon.

Well, that's pretty much my news. Not much, considering. But with summer and good weather starting I'm hoping to do more stuff. Hopefully that'll mean having more to talk about.

Date a girl who reads. Date a girl who spends her money on books instead of clothes. She has problems with closet space because she has too many books. Date a girl who has a list of books she wants to read, who has had a library card since she was twelve.

Find a girl who reads. You’ll know that she does because she will always have an unread book in her bag.She’s the one lovingly looking over the shelves in the bookstore, the one who quietly cries out when she finds the book she wants. You see the weird chick sniffing the pages of an old book in a second hand book shop? That’s the reader. They can never resist smelling the pages, especially when they are yellow.

She’s the girl reading while waiting in that coffee shop down the street. If you take a peek at her mug, the non-dairy creamer is floating on top because she’s kind of engrossed already. Lost in a world of the author’s making. Sit down. She might give you a glare, as most girls who read do not like to be interrupted. Ask her if she likes the book.

Buy her another cup of coffee.

Let her know what you really think of Murakami. See if she got through the first chapter of Fellowship. Understand that if she says she understood James Joyce’s Ulysses she’s just saying that to sound intelligent. Ask her if she loves Alice or she would like to be Alice.

It’s easy to date a girl who reads. Give her books for her birthday, for Christmas and for anniversaries. Give her the gift of words, in poetry, in song. Give her Neruda, Pound, Sexton, Cummings. Let her know that you understand that words are love. Understand that she knows the difference between books and reality but by god, she’s going to try to make her life a little like her favorite book. It will never be your fault if she does.

She has to give it a shot somehow.

Lie to her. If she understands syntax, she will understand your need to lie. Behind words are other things: motivation, value, nuance, dialogue. It will not be the end of the world.

Fail her. Because a girl who reads knows that failure always leads up to the climax. Because girls who understand that all things will come to end. That you can always write a sequel. That you can begin again and again and still be the hero. That life is meant to have a villain or two.

Why be frightened of everything that you are not? Girls who read understand that people, like characters, develop. Except in the Twilight series.

If you find a girl who reads, keep her close. When you find her up at 2 AM clutching a book to her chest and weeping, make her a cup of tea and hold her. You may lose her for a couple of hours but she will always come back to you. She’ll talk as if the characters in the book are real, because for a while, they always are.

You will propose on a hot air balloon. Or during a rock concert. Or very casually next time she’s sick. Over Skype.

You will smile so hard you will wonder why your heart hasn’t burst and bled out all over your chest yet. You will write the story of your lives, have kids with strange names and even stranger tastes. She will introduce your children to the Cat in the Hat and Aslan, maybe in the same day. You will walk the winters of your old age together and she will recite Keats under her breath while you shake the snow off your boots.

Date a girl who reads because you deserve it. You deserve a girl who can give you the most colorful life imaginable. If you can only give her monotony, and stale hours and half-baked proposals, then you’re better off alone. If you want the world and the worlds beyond it, date a girl who reads.

Or better yet, date a girl who writes.

It's my sister's, Amy, birthday today. She's 10, and my boss's wife (the pastry chef at the bakery), had me do the cake. It was practice and convenient. Haha.
It's a lot harder than it looks and I'm not completely happy with the end result, but it was my first time and I think I did a pretty good job. xD

- ALAN TUDYK & JEREMY SISTO! xD
- I'm kinda surprised I ended up liking this. Not because it's not good, but because it took me so long to get into it. I only started really enjoying the show after the Christmas episode.
- I'm also surprised that Dallas is my favorite character. She's really not usually the type of character I like, but she really grew on me. She's also the character, in my opinion, that has had the most growth on the show. And I loved that she got through her hardships and become this strong independent woman.
- I love the father/daughter dynamic of George and Tessa.
- I can't stand Lisa. She's more annoying than Dalia.
- Can't wait to see what season 2 will bring.

The article goes on to give details. After six notices, internet providers will decide to throttle a person's internet speed, or cut it off altogether. I don't know if they will crack down on torrents only, or if it is up to the internet provider. I get the sense it is up to the internet provider. So some people could get away with downloading non torrents, while others might get their internet service cut off. I urge you to click it and read, as we all know people who download.

No more downloading eps of your favorite shows for vidding, gifs, or fanfiction art. No more downloading screencaps possibly. I'm so sorry my friends. I don't even know if BT Guard will work to protect you, but I would google it if I were you. It is a professional service that supposedly can protect you from the invasive eyes of your internet provider.

Just, my friends, please make each other aware. Please be aware of the date JULY 12TH. Mark your calendar and double check with your internet provider by then. If you start receiving notices of downloaded activity, this is why. And your internet service could be throttled or cut off.

Derek Reese: I know a lot of people, kid. Don't know you. Anybody heard the name John Connor? Well, you know what? I think you're going to be famous. My brother's back and you're wearing his coat.
John Connor: [Turns to see Kyle Reese walking toward him, and behind Reese is Allison Young with a German Shepherd. No one recognizes him.]

My Thoughts:

- CAMERON IS BADASS. That is all.
- My favorite scene of all is the scene in The Demon Hand where Derek watches Cameron dancing. The raw emotion seen on Derek's face as he watches this thing create something so beautiful. It's heartbreaking. I LOVE IT.
- I could never stand John Connor. Whether it be in the movies or in this show, he's whiny and immature. I wish he could have been like he was in the last few episodes of season two. That's where I liked him the most. Where he finally comes to term with everything and starts taking action.
- I loved Shirley Mansion's character, Catherine Weaver. We never get to know what she's up to. Is she bad? She must be, since she's a terminator and basically building an AI. But that doesn't mean anything. She actually has more depth than that, and I'm glad we got to see some of it in the end.
- I can NOT believe they killed Derek that way! Every time I watch it, I'm still shocked about it. It's definitely something I never saw coming the first time I watched. And although I know it's coming, I still can't believe it. I'm just glad that we get to see him at the end.
- The ending. I hated it the first time around. Seriously?! That's how they decide to end it?! But now, after re-watching it, I find that I actually like it. It's fucked up in so many ways, and I have a billion questions about everything. But I like it. John gets to see Derek again! And meet Kyle! And Allison!! The story could go anywhere from there.
- I guess Sarah (and Ellison?) weren't able to stop it after all.
- This show is amazing! It's so sad it was cancelled. Especially the way it ended.

New, new, new

I got myself a new LJ layout and made a new default icon! As well as about a dozen other icons. I hadn't made icons in forever. Not more than one, at least! It felt good. I had fun.

I wanted something a little more colorful, and I absolutely loved this layout when I saw it. I LOVE the colors, and I loved the idea of a quote. And I just love this quote, so I had to use it. :)

I also did a little change to my profile layout. But really, it's just the colors.

What do you guys think?

So here goes, my first post for the 100 Things Challenge.
Timing actually helped make this my first choice. I just finished watching this show four days ago.

Show Title: Life
Aired: 2007 - 2009 [2 seasons]
Plot: Having spent the last 12 years in prison for a crime he didn't commit, Charlie Crews is exonerated and back to work for the LAPD as a detective. He spends his days solving crime (including the murders he was accused of), being zen(ish), and eating fruit.

Favorite Character:

Detective Dani Reese
Smart. Strong. Beautiful. Flawed.

Favorite Reoccurring Character:

Roman Nevikov
Stereotypical bad guy, but he's still badass.

Favorite Episodes:

My Thoughts:
- I enjoyed the show a lot more than expected. I thought it was rather lighthearted and quirky, which is exactly what I needed at the time.
- I loved that among all the darkness surrounding Charlie and Dani, Charlie's zennish nature, his love of fruit and his wonder of all technological things kept the show quite upbeat.
- Although sometimes I found it hard to stay focused, the episodes were entertaining for the most part.
- Except for certain ones, I enjoyed all the characters. They all brought something new to the story.
- I would have really liked to see it continue but I'm thankful it got a little closure in the end.

All U.S. Internet Providers will be policing downloads by July 12, 2012

Seriously. WHAT THE FLYING FUCK WORLD.

"File-sharers, beware: By July 12, major US Internet service providers (ISPs) will voluntarily begin serving as copyright police for the entertainment industry, according to Cary Sherman, chief executive of the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). The so-called “six-strikes” plan is said to be one of the most effective anti-piracy efforts ever established in the US."

The article goes on to give details. After six notices, internet providers will decide to throttle a person's internet speed, or cut it off altogether. I don't know if they will crack down on torrents only, or if it is up to the internet provider. I get the sense it is up to the internet provider. So some people could get away with downloading non torrents, while others might get their internet service cut off. I urge you to click it and read, as we all know people who download.

No more downloading eps of your favorite shows for vidding, gifs, or fanfiction art. No more downloading screencaps possibly. I'm so sorry my friends. I don't even know if BT Guard will work to protect you, but I would google it if I were you. It is a professional service that supposedly can protect you from the invasive eyes of your internet provider.

Just, my friends, please make each other aware. Please be aware of the date JULY 12TH. Mark your calendar and double check with your internet provider by then. If you start receiving notices of downloaded activity, this is why. And your internet service could be throttled or cut off.
