These are called <em>regular verbs<\/em>. Regular verbs are conjugated into past tense by adding the suffix <em>\u2013ed<\/em> to the end of the word.<\/p>\n<p>For example,<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>I walk &gt; I walked.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Not all English verbs are regular, though. These are called <em>irregular verbs<\/em>, and some of these don\u2019t seem to follow any rules at all.<\/p>\n<p>A few, though, are at least somewhat predictable. Many verbs that end in <em>\u2013ind <\/em>simply change to <em>\u2013ound <\/em>in the past tense, such as <em>find<\/em>, which becomes <em>found<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>What about <em>bind<\/em>? I will outline the correct past tense of bind and illustrate how it should be used in example sentences. In one sense, to <em>bound <\/em>is to <em>leap<\/em>, the way a gazelle might bound across the savanna.<\/p>\n<p>In another sense, <em>bound <\/em>means <em>to establish an edge<\/em>, the way the state of Oregon is bounded to the north by the Columbia River.<\/p>\n<p>In this article, though, I will focus on <em>bound<\/em>\u2019s use as the <a href=\"https:\/\/writingexplained.org\/grammar-dictionary\/past-tense\">past tense<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/writingexplained.org\/grammar-dictionary\/conjugation\">conjugation<\/a> of the <a href=\"https:\/\/writingexplained.org\/grammar-dictionary\/verb\">verb<\/a> <em>bind<\/em>, which means <em>to tie something up <\/em>or <em>constrain something<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>For example,<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>When Alex woke up, her hands and feet were bound and her mouth was taped shut.<\/li>\n<li>Due to my profession, I am legally bound to report all suspected incidences of child abuse.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In the first example, one person has been literally bound with rope, while in the other two a person and a country have been figuratively bound by legal requirements.<\/p>\n<h2>When to Use Binded<\/h2>\n<p><strong><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-19172\" src=\"https:\/\/writingexplained.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/define-bound-define-binded.png\" alt=\"define bound define binded\" width=\"400\" height=\"115\" srcset=\"https:\/\/writingexplained.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/define-bound-define-binded.png 400w, https:\/\/writingexplained.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/define-bound-define-binded-300x86.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/>What does binded mean? <\/strong><em>Binded <\/em>is an incorrect conjugation of the verb <em>to bind<\/em>.
