To everyone who is using one of my layouts, or any Smooth Sailing layout, you're probably getting an error that looks like this when you look at your own journal.

"Error running style: Died in S2::run_code running RecentPage::print(): Can't locate object method "new" via package "S2::Object" (perhaps you forgot to load "S2::Object"?) at (eval 894)[/home/lj/src/s2/S2.pm:232] line 1827."

Lj is aware of the problem (see comments) and trying to fix it. Seems they did an update today and messed everything up.

Looks like it's fixed! Yay! LJ actually did something in a timely manner.

This has been popping up all over my flist. I think it's important that it gets out there a little farther.

There are local organizations trying to start local protests against Proposition 8. Check out Fight the H8 to see if anything local is going on in your state this Saturday.

I voted!!

The lines were long but we got there about 5 minutes after the polls opened so it wasn't so bad. We were in and out in about 45 minutes. This is the first time ever that I wasn't in and out in less than 10.

When we left the lady handing out stickers attacked my boob. I tried to just take it from her hand but she got all aggressive and stuck it to me. Crazy lady.

Is it weird that I'm nervous? Missouri is tied in just about every electoral projection out. I think we might lose our bellwether status this year.

Today Columbia smells like maple syrup. Doesn't matter where in town you go. It's weird and sort of awesome at the same time. Except now I'm hungry and I want pancakes.

It's also cold and rainy. I think fall has finally decided to show up.

Photos and who they belong to...

ETA: I don't want wank. That isn't why I posted this. I posted this because people need to realize that they don't "own" anything simply because they are part of fandom.

I finally talked to my dad and found out what the family "brand" is. It's a Double K. How boring is that? I find it weird that both me and my brother had it wrong in our heads. Mine was closer though. So this means I can actually finish my watermark and not look like a tool if I do it wrong. How embarrassing would that have been?

About photos and who owns them and who has a right to post them. This seriously annoys me. I've had pictures stolen and posted on message boards so it's a little personal.

1. I've seen at least three Jensen and/or Jared websites that have photos posted that are copyrighted to the website/website owner. You CANNOT COPYRIGHT A PHOTO YOU DON'T OWN. I don't care if you bought the magazine, spent 4 hours getting the perfect high resolution scan and then another two hours getting it to post. Copyright belongs to the photographer or whoever the photographer releases his rights to. If you took the amazing photo of Jensen and posted it, then YAY! you have your very own copyrighted photo. But if you took if from someone else it doesn't belong to you. Don't mark it up claiming it as your own. If you want to give credit than give it to the person who took the photo.

I'm not saying don't post a million pictures of your favorite pretty boy. Post away (although this is illegal also). Just don't label them ©2007 whoeveryouare@wherever.net unless you own the photo.

2. That brings me to point two. I find it very sad that people in fandom are having to put huge watermarks on their photos. It makes it very hard for me to see pretty faces (and Jason's awesome curls/Steve's gorgeous smile). If you want to repost someone's photos then just ask. If they say no then link others to the original post. If you're someone who's had their pictures stolen then know that copyright laws protect you.* ** You don't have to put a copyright notice on everything you own (although it can protect you), as soon as you "publish" it's copyrighted. If it gets posted in a certain community, tell her to take the damn thing down and point her at one of the links above.

3. Lastly, if you see one of the J's strolling down the street then it's your right to take a photo of him. You might piss him off, but there is little he can do about it. You can take a photo of whoever you want, whenever you want, as long as it's in a public place or a place you have permission to take photographs (there are a few exceptions, such as military areas). You don't need any sort of release unless you are using them for commercial purposes (photojournalism usually does not count). You cannot however, take pictures of them in their backyard. You can't take pictures of them hanging out in the living room with grandma, unless you have permission. If you have a picture of someone and it's private then it's their right to ask you to take it down. So, hanging out at the mall? Public. Sunbathing in the backyard? Private. Dancing at a club? Public (as long as the owner is okay with it). BBQ with your nephew at the parents house? Private.

* This is for the U.S. I've never researched laws in other countries so I don't know about them.

I don't want to sound bitchy and preachy about this, but photography is an art, just like any other. People would be in an uproar if others started posting their writings or paintings and claiming them as someone else's or posting without permission. Hell, people start fandom wars over uncredited icons. I don't expect people to track down the photographer of every photo Ewan Mcgregor has posed for or digging out a magazine from 1995 for that Zac Efron photo. Just be respectful of people in fandom who did take a photo and be respectful of an actor's right to not be posted all over the net when he's in a private place.

ETA: This is an example of a photo that's been copyrighted by someone who doesn't own it.

RAINN and Sweet Charity

My mom asked me yesterday for the link to Sweet Charity and I thought I would share it with everyone who might be interested.

Sweet Charity is where tons of people in fandom (Charity Hos) get together and "sell" themselves for charity. You bid for your very own Charity Ho and if you win you get whatever services they were offering. You can bid on everything from fanfiction written just for you, graphics, layouts, handmade jewelry and even drum lessons. Want your very own episode of plastic!winchesters? Bid! Tons of fangirls involved including cherryscott, anteka, affectingly and more than 150 other lj users.

All proceeds go to RAINN (the Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network). Bidding is easy (just register) and starts at $1.94. So far more than $5240 has been raised.

That said, the girls grandma gave them American Idol for the PS2. Shaila is playing and I swear to god I'm about to gouge out my eardrums. Who thinks games like this are a good idea? They sing bad pop songs off key and then I have to listen to lame comments from Simon, Paula, and Randy. Simon isn't even mean! At least give me that.

I have enough problems trying to figure out what comments I haven't replied to yet (and remembering how to do links) without you hiding my links from me.
