Specific to recommendations, I sent a few Loom videos to people whose writing I enjoyed and who I had been engaging with in comments and notes.
All very brief (~30 seconds) just saying hi and that I was recommending them. It went a long way to establishing connections and friendships to this day!
Loom is a screen recording platform built mostly for asynchronous communication but it also doubles as an easy way to record yourself and you’ll know when people view your video! Works over DMs!
Thank you for the feature, Sinem. Wouldn't have come even close to creating a Substack About Page without the guidance from WBS 🫶🏻 Appreciate you guys!
I am on that phase right now, improving and testing my brand look, my About page, my Sections, etc. But since I am starting these days to slow down due to a bit of burn out, maybe I will focus at my pace on making the right parts clearer and easier to say yes to :)
This is exactly what I needed. I wanted to add the 'Subscribe' block on my homepage and began scrolling through Substack Help. What was I thinking?🤔 I immediately came back to WBS and went straight to this post.
I'm going to use it to gain subscribers and also to pitch my ''free assessment' and other digital products.✨
On my blog, I focus on the uniqueness of my content, sharing things that no one else in the world will talk about, and I rely on my readers to help promote it by sharing links with their friends and acquaintances. In a sense, I count on the content going viral, since I tackle the toughest questions.
Hello Sinem. I am 16 and have written three posts about logic, creativity and human personality disorders. I write with the intention to make your viewpoint alter like how logic is itself not logical, creativity is not luxury but vital for survival since ancient times and how AI is mirroring human PDs.
The % of posts I've read on Substack in my first 2 weeks that have been genuinely helpful is remarkably high.
Oh, that's such amazing feedback, Matt. Welcome to Substack. I hope you are already enjoying it here! :)
I'm loving it. I'll love it more when I have my first billion subscribers. :)

Thanks Sinem! Yeah it’s been fun.
What is a Loom video and can you send them as DM's? Blue💙

What do you mean “It works over DM’s?” Blue 💙
Each video generates a link so you can just DM the link.
You should be able to send a link.. go to loom.com
Thanks. I've just downloaded Loom. Now I need to learn how to use it. Always learning. Never bored. Blue💙
np! .. I'm well versed in this world so feel free to dm me with any questions
Feels like a team sport over here! 😄

Love it. Small tweaks to how your Substack is set up can drive more growth than just writing better content.
It’s possible this was dropped into my feed because I have 23 subs. lol
