Library staff bring library services to students, faculty, staff and the community in a variety of ways, including lending books and other materials, providing access to thousands of electronic journals, sourcing articles and books from libraries internationally, answering basic information questions and in-depth research questions, and sharing library and special collections via workshops and events.

Dunbar Library Visitors

The Paul Laurence Dunbar Library is open 90+ hours per week and welcomes students, faculty, staff, and community members daily. Visitors are welcomed at the circulation desk where library staff answer questions, direct visitors, check-out materials, and more.

Special Collections & Archives Visitors

Within the Dunbar Library, the Special Collections and Archives department is open 25+ hours per week and welcomes students, faculty, staff, and community members. Visitors are welcomed at the reading room desk where archives staff answer questions and assist researchers.

Materials Borrowed

Books, equipment items, course reserves, and media and more are borrowed from the University Libraries each month.

Questions Answered at the Circulation Desk (1st floor)

One of the library's important functions is answering questions from students, faculty, staff, and community members. Library staff at the circulation desk answer questions about borrowing library materials, course reserves, media and equipment, they give directions and provide maps, and facilitate guest computer accounts.

Questions Answered at the Information Desk (2nd floor)

Library staff and student assistants at the Information Desk are here to help! They answer research questions, provide technology assistance, give basic information and directions, and more.

Library Research Assistance

In addition to answering questions at library service desks, librarians meet one-on-one with students and faculty, answer in-depth reference questions, and collaborate on research.

Archival Research Assistance

Archivists answer questions in the reading room, in addition to meeting one-on-one with students,faculty, and community members, researching in-depth reference questions, and collaborating on research.

Study Room Use

The Dunbar Library has 4 group study rooms, 2 media studios, and 7 individual silent study rooms available for students, faculty, and staff to reserve. The rooms are available approximately 90 hours per week, to accommodate student schedules.
