FAQ

What do I need to use Migrate Guru?

You’ll need:
* An account on the new web hosting service.
* A domain on the new host, with WordPress installed.
* The destination’s FTP/cPanel details(optional).

Why do you need my email?

Migrate Guru requires an email address to send you updates on the migration process, notify you of any errors that occur during the migration.

How long does Migrate Guru take to move a site?

Migrate Guru can move a 1 GB (files & database) site in <30 Mins*
(*Approximate & depends on a number of factors).

Are there any limitations on the number of migrations?

Yes. We’ve enforced a limit of 5 site migrations/user/month (developers can request to have this limit extended). This cap ensures that our servers aren’t overburdened. Each of the 5 sites can be moved unlimited times.

Does Migrate Guru backup my site?

No.

Do I need to have WordPress installed in the destination?

Yes.

Do I need to have Migrate Guru installed in the destination to transfer my site?

Yes.

Why do you need FTP/cPanel details?

Migrate Guru requires FTP/cPanel details primarily as a fallback. The plugin generally doesn’t need these details, relying instead on Migration-key based migration. However, in cases where this primary method encounters issues, the plugin uses FTP/cPanel details as an alternative to ensure a seamless migration.

How do I move a multi-site network?

When installed on a WordPress multi-site network, the plugin automatically becomes ‘network activated’. Once this is done you can go by the same steps as a single site.

Do you have a help guide/documentation?

Yes, we do. You can access it here: https://migrateguru.freshdesk.com/support/home

This module is absolutely brilliant. It’s so easy to use and incredibly efficient. A migration takes only a few minutes. Well done!

My old host hasn’t kept up with mysql updates at all, they’re several versions behind, but I’ve been putting off moving my site to a new host because I have done these before and I just WAS NOT looking forward to it. I’ve been putting it off for at least a year, if not longer. The reason is that I had several domains and several blogs under an old host before move. I moved most of them by hand, because I figured it’d be easier than mess with a plugin I haven’t used before. Took me 2 days so far. The last site to move was this multisite setup and one site in it that has 4000 posts on it that I needed to move. I figured it would be a nightmare to move by hand so I installed Migrate Guru so I could see how badly it would suck before ultimately I’d have to do it by hand anyway – no great expectations. I started maybe 30 minutes ago. It’s done. 28 minutes ago, to be exact (checked my email confirmation), and some of this time I’ve spent finding this tab again to keep writing, lol. So I haven’t done an exhaustive check if everything is there, but I had a quick glance at the file manager and the database and everything looks right. The site works (multisite in folders, I think subdomains would fail at this stage due to dns stuff, but still) and it looks OK. I literally spent more time PREPARING to move the site when I actually didn’t need to do it than what it took to get it done with MG. Now I’m peeved I didn’t use it for the other blogs. :DNo, they didn’t pay me for the review. 😀

I’m capable of migrating WordPress sites between hosts manually, by using SFTP, or zipping/unzipping archives of files from the back-end using SSH and command line. But I was on a very tight timeline. I bumbled around with UpdraftPlus free for a couple minutes before getting errors and realizing it wasn’t up to the task. So I decided to give Migrate Guru a try. Wow. Migrate Guru was so simple, clear, and quick. Within a few minutes a Wordpress site of 900+ Pages and 300+ Posts with a very large Media Library was migrated to a new host.I did have one plugin that was causing a white screen of death after migration, but that was because the plugin was incompatible with a newer version of PHP on the new host, not because of Migrate Guru. Turning on error handling in wp_config on the new host helped identify the erroneous plugin. After deleting the offending plugin, the site was up and running on my new host. I also found it helpful to deactivate and reactivate all my Wordpress plugins to make sure all were functioning as expected on the new host, after migration. As far as migrating a WordPress site and associated database, files, and media… I have not found a simpler or more reliable tool than Migrate Guru. Thank you for making my life easier!

I recently migrated my WordPress site to a new domain and Migrate Guru made what I expected to be a stressful process completely painless and flawless. Here’s why I’m giving it a full 5 stars: Truly FREE with NO size limits – My site has thousands of posts, large media uploads, and a complex setup, but Migrate Guru handled everything without any upsells or restrictions. No more worrying about upload limits like with other plugins! Super simple and fast – The interface is clean and intuitive. I just entered my destination details, clicked migrate, and it did all the heavy lifting on their servers (no strain on my hosting). Automatic URL replacement – It perfectly updated every link when changing domains. No broken images, no manual search-replace needed. Zero downtime or risk – My old site stayed fully live and untouched during the entire process. Perfect copy, nothing deleted. If you’re moving hosts, changing domains, or just creating a copy for testing, Migrate Guru is hands-down the best free option available. I’ve tried others, and nothing comes close in ease, speed, and reliability. Thank you to the Migrate Guru team
