Staging Site Creation

  I am trying to create a staging site but where the button should be there is just a rotating circle with text, “adding staging site” but it is not completed no matter what I have tried.

  Hi there,

  Ugh, a spinner that never finishes is the worst kind of stuck — no error to act on, no progress to wait for. Fellow user here, not staff, but I’ve seen this one come up before and there are a couple of things worth checking before you escalate.

  First, the quick one. Staging sites are only available on the Business and Commerce plans, so campusedgemsu.com needs to be on one of those. If you’re already on Business, there’s a small gotcha the official guide points out: the plan sometimes needs to be activated after purchase, and until that happens features like staging won’t work properly even though the UI may look like they should. Worth double-checking that first, because it’s the cheapest fix and it matches the “button is there but nothing happens” symptom surprisingly well.

  If the plan is right and activated, then what you’re seeing is almost certainly a creation job that started on the backend and got wedged. That’s not something you can clear from the dashboard — reloading or clicking again won’t help, which lines up with what you’ve already tried. At that point the fastest path is to reach out to the WordPress.com Happiness Engineers directly. They can look at your site from their side and clear whatever is blocking the new staging environment. You can contact them from the Help option in your dashboard once you’re logged in. When you write in, mention the site URL, that the “Add staging site” action has been replaced by a persistent “Adding staging site” spinner, and that retrying hasn’t helped. That’s enough for them to start digging right away.
