Incorrect email address

I created an account last weekend, but made a spelling mistake on the email address. I spent hours creating the website. I now see the spelling mistake, but am unable to log in, as of course, the verification link is going to an email address that doesn’t exist.

Looking at “account recovery”, there are three options – 2FA, a key, or transaction ID. I chose the plan that only charged my card once the website goes live (it isn’t yet), I don’t have the key or 2FA set up.

I would happily start again and accept the loss of time, however, the domain (bought from Godaddy) has already been associated to this website that I can’t access.

Is there anything I can do? It is clear that it is a small spelling mistake on the email address. I can give a multitude of evidence on timing, card verification from WordPress from my bank and so on.

    Any help would be appreciated!

    Hi dane9ba768311f0,

This is a frustrating but I guess it is very solvable situation. Try creating the mistyped email.

If the typo is something like:

    • gamil.com
    • gmial.com

    Try:

    • Creating that exact email (if the domain exists)

    Example:

    • If typo = Gmail → won’t work (Google owns it)
    • But if it’s a custom or uncommon domain, you might be able to register it

    If successful:

    • You receive the verification email
    • You gain access instantly

If that didn’t work, I highly suggest to contact WordPress.com Support.

    WordPress support can manually:

    • Fix the email typo, OR
    • Transfer the site to a new account

I hope this helps! Good luck!

  • Hi @dane9ba768311f0,

Could you share either the URL of the website you were building, or the email address you actually signed up with (typo and all)? Either one will help us locate the account on our end and see what options we have to get you back in.

    Let us know!

  • Hi there,

I see we already reached out to you via mail about this, so I’ll go ahead and close this thread for now.

    Kind regards,
    Jade
