They’re hilarious!! Thank you for submitting them

Sonya Mallett's avatar

Not a problem and thank you (again). It was very difficult sifting through all the photos I have of them both to choose which ones to share 🐶🐶🤎

Nur Nadar's avatar

what was the inspiration for their names? There’s a UK rapper named Dizzee Rascal

Sonya Mallett's avatar

We’re based in the UK and although not a massive fan of Dizzee Rascal I do like some of his music and thought it would be the perfect name for a couple of dogs and Rascal certainly lives up to his name 🤣. We often get a lot of comments on their names when people hear us calling them.

Cute! I love the unique workaround for separation anxiety. One of my poor pups is afflicted. We now blast Futurama whenever we leave the house :)

Nur Nadar's avatar

I still have to figure out a solution that works for my dog Bear 🤔

Emma Vivian's avatar

Oh, I’m so sorry you’re dealing with it, too! It’s so hard. We couldn’t even leave Flynn alone for five minutes before, but after a lot of work, we’re up to two hours. Hang in there!

Nur Nadar's avatar

Did you submit Flynn to WoofStack yet??

Emma Vivian's avatar

Ha, not yet! But I plan to :)

N Leana's avatar

You'll get there! It takes a lot of time and patience. Our little rescue would cry and cry whenever we left the house. Not loudly but with such deep fear and loneliness in her soft little whimpers. We almost gave up cos it was so heartwrenching to hear her.

But we steeled ourselves and went through with it, going from minutes to an hour, then alternating long and short stretches, and she did get to the point where she finally believed we were coming back for her and she wasn't being abandoned once again.

Thank you for sharing; you give me hope! I never thought we’d get to ten minutes, let alone two hours, so I know we’re making progress.

I think my boy Flynn believes it’s his duty to protect me, and he can’t handle the stress of not knowing where I am. He’s taken very good care of me ever since I got him while in treatment for breast cancer. He has been there for me during some of my most challenging moments, and so I happily help him with his anxiety now :)

N Leana's avatar

Ahh the two of you have built up such a strong bond already, I'm sure you'll be able to help Flynn get over his anxiety.

Youu're probably right that he worries about you when you're away. Dogs have strong pack instincts - even normally, they want to keep the pack together. Flynn was with you when you were in treatment, so he could well feel even more protective of you and reluctant to let you out of his sight.

Putting yourself in the right frame of mind before you leave the house is important. They pick up our feelings so easily. If he senses anxiety from you, he's likely to have a harder time settling down.

Maybe think happy thoughts before going out and keep everything as "normal" as possible? If you're all tense and worried yourself, he'll know it.

Emma Vivian's avatar

Thank you so much for your advice! I will try to think calm and positive thoughts when leaving him. We got a second dog last year and that’s really helped! It helps his pack instincts not to feel completely alone :)

And yes, he is a sweet boy who wants to protect me! We truly don’t deserve dogs!
