[ Damn it.

Saitou had no idea where he was. No idea at all. There were too many trees going in all directions. ... And what was worse, someone (perhaps an acquaintance of Gein's?) had decided to paste things onto his back. That moved. And on top of that, his sword was gone. Not even going to mention his outfit for the time being. Ridiculous.

This was not starting out to be a good day. One minute he had been minding his own business, in his office, getting ready for a new police assignment and all-too-ready to be in any other city as long as Battousai was not in it. Fool. Complete fool. But no matter. Saitou was mulling too much on the past and needed to gain his bearings in the present. After some moments he chose a direction and just kept heading straight.

Some minutes later, Saitou finally spotted some civilization down his path. Good. Perhaps someone could explain where exactly this was and where his belongings were. Because not having his sword by his side (and his police clothes) were not ideal. At least there was no need to worry about Yukishiro Enishi anymore.

But it sure would be nice to have something other than some damn pants on.

Now... to get rip these infernal wings off before anyone noticed. ]

Body and Appearance
1. Describe the character's height and build. Is he heavyset, thin, short, rangy? I imagine Saitou to be around 6'3", being way-mega-taller than everyone else ever in Ruroken. Well except maybe for a few other guys. Especially considering Fuji the Giant. A little thinner than most men but still very toned and muscular. aka sexy.

2. How old is he? going to be 37 if he were still in C&C world. oh god.

3. Describe his posture. Does he carry himself well or does he slouch? Saitou probably holds himself a little stiffer than most. Definitely no slouching like some ahou we know from canon. Though he's not tense to the point of being uncomfortable - he prefers thinking of it as being alert.

4. How is his health? Is he fit or out of shape? Any illnesses or conditions? Any physical disabilities? LOL SAITOU'S HEALTH. oh god I could write volumes on this chainsmoker. There's a reason he has lung cancer in C&C 2020. Otherwise he's so fucking athletic he could run circles around everybody else ever.

5. How does he move? Is he clumsy, graceful, tense, fluid? Uh, see above on how he holds himself I guess. Still very alert and watchful of everything around him. Except maybe when he's sleepy idk.

6. How attractive is this character physically? How does he perceive himself in the mirror? MY OPINION IS BIASED ON HOW ATTRACTIVE SAITOU IS. Some people may not like his hairstyle, whatever. This man is a sex god. At least I think so. He probably doesn't even have those words ever ever register in his head. Because that would be outrageously OOC. and a little frightening to even think about. anyway. Saitou doesn't really do the mirror thing much except to comb stray hairs back and that sort of thing.

7. Describe his complexion. Dark, light, clear, scarred? So very scarred. Has two large scars both upper thighs from his fight with Usui, a large X-like scar on his chest from the gunpowder blast by Shishio, and numerous other scars in those same areas. But none on the face. Saitou must value the face.

8. Describe his hair: color, texture, style. An inky black, thin texture which is partly due to his age. And probably partly because of his smoking. (Stupid Saitou why haven't you read the Surgeon General's warnings already.) Style is slicked back with a few stray hairs on his face. Which for some reason always happens to be four strands. No one is sure why.

9. What color are his eyes? Amber, which darken a little when feeling a strong emotion :>

10. Does the character have any other noteworthy features? Age lines? Scars? Sexy-ness?

11. What are his chief tension centers? Back and legs. Back is probably from hovering over paperwork so long at the police office. Legs are from fighting and his super-speed powers.

12. What is the character's wardrobe like? Casual, dressy, utilitarian? Bright colors, pastels, neutrals? Is it varied, or does he have six of the same suit? Saitou likes wearing his police uniform because it's something from home, even though it's severely outdated. He also likes his C&C police uniform, but lol he had to turn that in. In casual wear he prefers dress shirts and slacks, never looking too informal. Though on occasion he'll slip out the black t-shirt and a pair of dark jeans. Also owns a few pairs of black jeans as well.

13. Do his clothes fit well? Does he seem comfortable in them? I'd say so. Nothing too loose or too tight. He likes having everything fitted properly, especially sleeves.

14. Does he dress the same on the job as he does in his free time? If not, what are the differences? See above regarding the police uniform.

15. You knew it was coming: Boxers, briefs or commando? Black boxer-briefs because I say so and like hell am I actually asking Saitou that question.

Speech
1. What does this character's voice sound like? High-pitched, deep, hoarse? Could only find the English dub version of his voice on YouTube (curse you YouTube for taking down the Japanese version) but I do image this voice when I write him.

2. How does he normally speak? Loud, soft, fast, evenly? Does he talk easily, or does he hesitate? When he's more relaxed and feeling confident against an opponent his voice takes on a patronizing drawl. Normally his voice is a low timbre and never raised too loudly unless he's severely pissed off. Spoken evenly I guess also.

3. Does the character have a distinct accent or dialect? Any individual quirks of pronunciation? Any, like, you know, verbal tics? Says "Hn" a lot. Also being an introvert doesn't say very much besides fragmented sentences, unless he wants to explain something or if he's comfortable with you. The list is not many.

4. What language/s does he speak, and with how much fluency? Japanese, and from being in C&C, English.

5. Does he switch languages or dialects in certain situations? Japanese for those who speak it.

6. Is he a good impromptu speaker, or does he have to think about his words? Saitou has improvisation down to a T.

7. Is he eloquent or inarticulate? Under what circumstances might this change? Eloquent I guess. Not too fancy but definitely has an air about him that he knows what he's talking about.

Mental and Emotional
1. How intelligent is this character? Is he book-smart or street-smart? Very intelligent, in both books and in the streets. Especially the streets concerning his job and his time as a Shinsengumi captain during the Seinan Wars and the Meiji Restoration. Only thing that puzzles him is technology, which he'll probably always have trouble with.

2. Does he think on his feet, or does he need time to deliberate? Improv. Only deliberation if he actually comes across a situation that he hasn't had to handle before. Like trying to explain himself to Elisa.

3. Describe the character's thought process. Is he more logical, or more intuitive? Idealistic or practical? Logic all the way, baby. Has a swordsman's intuition, but that is backed by logic. The only ideal he holds is Aku Soku Zan. Practical ideal right?

4. What kind of education has the character had? I'm imagining not very much, considering he ran away from home at 18 and probably worked on farming during his childhood. Learning to write and read were likely the most he ever had, and just had to "wing it" with everything else. Thank god for the improv skill thing.

5. What are his areas of expertise? What, if anything, is he interested in learning more about? Kenjutsu, kenjutsu, kenjutsu.

6. Is he an introvert or an extrovert? Introvert. Saitou doesn't have friends in canon (that we know of) and only started to come out of that isolation he prefers in C&C-land.

7. Describe the character's temperament. Is he even-tempered or does he have mood swings? Cheerful or melancholy? Laid-back or driven? Saitou believes he must always be in control of his emotions. Always. When he begins to lose that control even for a second, he feels immediately uncomfortable and tries to reign his temper in. Not that he hasn't lost his temper before, but he really prefers to keep a calm demeanor. Even if he can get irritated at every little thing.

8. How does he respond to new people or situations? Is he suspicious, relaxed, timid, enthusiastic? Ignores em. Unless they have information he requires, or appear interesting (again, the list is few), he is going to ignore you. He is suspicious and alert of every one and every thing. Trust is not an easy thing to gain from this guy.

9. Is he more likely to act, or to react? Act. Fighting instincts take play here.

10. Which is his default: fight or flight? Fight, obviously.

11. Describe the character's sense of humor. Does he appreciate jokes? Puns? Gallows humor? Bathroom humor? Pranks? Saitou finds things humorous that most others don't. In canon he laughs to himself after a village is exposed for the disgusting citizens they really are - also laughing at how an informant is going to be tortured for information. Well and Cavil amuses him too. However on the other side of that coin, there are a lot of things Saitou doesn't consider funny at all. Like humor at his expense (obvious) or jabs at things Saitou cares about.

12. Does the character have any diagnosable mental disorders? If yes, how does he deal with them? I'm... going to say not. He's too level-headed to appear mentally unhealthy.

13. What moments in this character's life have defined him as a person? Losing the war for the Shinsengumi, Kiryu's death, his own death, leaving the C&C police forever.

14. What does he fear? Loss of control, acting vulnerable.

15. What are his hopes or aspirations? He'd like to see Okita again, even if it's in death. He wants to see Kiryu happy, and make-up with Elisa if possible. He'd like to join the police again, but knows it can't and won't happen.

16. What is something he doesn't want anyone to find out about him? Kiryu is more than "important" to him. That's the word he uses to mask whatever emotion he really feels. It's a safer word than the one he thinks of in his head, but the original thought is still there. He loves him. And he's extremely uncomfortable with that fact, for numerous reasons. He doesn't want to hurt Kiryu, doesn't want to mess up the relationship Kiryu's already in, and Saitou also loves Elisa. He doesn't love her the same way he loves Kiryu, but the fact that he knows he and Elisa will never be together is making that strong, strong emotional feel for her become a dull ache.

In short, Saitou prefers keeping it out of his mind as much as possible.

Relationships
1. Describe this character's relationship with his parents. Not much is known about Saitou's family, but I imagine his father taught him the basics of kenjutsu before Saitou left home. No idea about what his mother was like.

2. Does the character have any siblings? What is/was their relationship like? Saitou is historically the youngest of three. He has an older sister, and an even older brother. Nothing is really known about either.

3. Are there other blood relatives to whom he is close? Are there ones he can't stand? Only his wife back home in the 1870s.

4. Are there other, unrelated people whom he considers part of his family? What are his relationships with them? Saitou is especially close to Kiryu, but doesn't consider him "family" at least. He doesn't think much of that word, since he's thrown his past away.

5. Who is/was the character's best friend? How did they meet? Saitou's first best friend was Okita Souji, the first captain of the Shinsengumi, whom he met when joining up with the Shinsengumi at 18. Despite Saitou's introversion Okita pressed on and the two became very close friends. Saitou was with Okita when he died, and afterward refrained from being close to anyone for two decades. That is until he was sent to the City and met Kiryu, who had shown up the day before. He couldn't help but identify with the young man's attitude as one similar to Okita's, and as they say the rest is history.

6. Does he have other close friends? Not particularly, although Hiruma is fairly close, and Alastair is "all right, I guess." Melee was at first a sparring partner, and then a good friend. But Kiryu is still the closest person in his life.

7. Does he make friends easily, or does he have trouble getting along with people? Haha nooo. Saitou doesn't do friends. People have to approach him because he is not going to whatsoever. As for getting along with people... Saitou is an asshole. He is not going to be nice and he is not going to sugarcoat things for you.

8. Which does he consider more important: family or friends? He doesn't see much of a difference considering his family situation back home.

9. Is the character single, married, divorced, widowed? Has he been married more than once? No one's entirely sure what happened to Saitou's first marriage, but he was married before Tokio. It's unsure whether the marriage ended because of his wife's death, or a divorce, or what. But I imagine it was a very rocky marriage and an unsuccessful one. Currently married in the 1870s to Takagi Tokio, whom he has one child with. Even though because of C&C he can't remember that fact.

10. Is he currently in a romantic relationship with someone other than a spouse? Saitou didn't fall for Elisa Maza right away, she had gotten into the City two months after he did. She flirted with him, yes, but he brushed it off and kept her at arm's length - that is until a few select events occurred. James Bond entered the City, and Saitou's not positive why, but he became protective over Elisa when he started flirting with her. As in this log, the chemistry starts acting up, and then after Saitou dies, the two start talking more and more. However that takes an abrupt stop when Saitou resigns from the police, sending Elisa to the hospital with a concussion - but for some reason he can't get her out of his head after that. Maybe it's the guilt, maybe it's concern over her wellbeing, but he needed to see her again and so he visits her at the hospital against all good judgment, and nearly confesses feelings for her. He visits her again after Elisa comes back from the dead, and kind of plays mini-therapist for her recovery upon being resurrected. But it's a bittersweet sort of story considering he's avoiding arrest and she's the police commissioner over the City. Eventually the idiot loses his temper and says things he shouldn't while in an alcoholic rage. And, because he was ported out before he could ICly take them back, the wound is still raw and open.

He doesn't like thinking about this very much, either.

11. Who was his first crush? Who is his latest? Probably some girl in his hometown (which he, also probably, never got around to telling), and Elisa.

12. What does he look for in a romantic partner? Confidence, someone that can match his wits, is unafraid, challenges him, can coax him out of his isolation, respects and understands his philosophy as well as support. Being attractive doesn't hurt either.

13. Does the character have children? Grandchildren? If yes, how does he relate to them? If no, does he want any?Saitou historically goes on to have three children (giving one away for god knows why) and has descendants to this day.

14. Does he have any rivals or enemies? HITOKIRI BATTOUSAI. God augh that man. Anyway. In C&C, probably Slade and Cavil. But mostly Cavil.

15. What is the character's sexual orientation? Where does he fall on the Kinsey scale?0.5 - the .5 being for Kiryu and him alone. Maybe he had something for Okita, who knows?

16. How does he feel about sex? How important is it to him? Saitou is like a camel and can probably go without sex for a long time - I know he did in C&C-land. He wants it in a relationship, not just some person off the street. And he's not going to give it to just anyone, either.

17. What are his turn-ons? Turn-offs? Weird bedroom habits? Saitou has a thing with teeth, probably partially because of the wolf-thing. He likes having dominance and control, but also doesn't mind topping-from-bottom every once in a while. Once again, Saitou does not do vulnerability ever, and does not submit for anyone. That is not going to change and anyone who tries, or let alone suggests, will lose their head. And other vital organs as well, I imagine.

Beliefs
1. Do you know your character's astrological (zodiac of choice) sign? How well does he fit type? Saitou is right on the edge of the end of Aquarius and into Pisces, so... idk ask an astrologist on how that would fit.

2. Is this character religious, spiritual, both, or neither? How important are these elements in his life? Neither. Saitou has respect for spirits who have moved on, especially his comrades, but the idea of ghosts or apparitions is absurd.

3. Does this character have a personal code of morals or ethics? If so, how did that begin? What would it take to compromise it? AKU SOKU ZAN. Swift Death to Evil, a phrase he takes literally. He does so because he is the only Shinsengumi left alive and intends to fulfill their philosophy until his dying day - though he has already died once, but... I guess this can be considered extra credit.

4. How does he regard beliefs that differ from his? Is he tolerant, intolerant, curious, indifferent? The ignoring-thing comes into play here quite a bit, except when it gets to the point where someone practically spits on his ideals. Saitou does not take this well and depending on the person, it may be the last thing you ever say.

5. What prejudices does he hold? Are they irrational or does he have a good reason for them? Saitou's from a time period in the middle of the women's suffrage movement, as well as a time where Imperialism is abundant. Letting foreigners into Japan does not sit well with him, and feminism is too radical. However the City has changed a number of his opinions on the latter subject, especially considering Melee and her skill as a warrior. He's happy Japan is fending off on its own just fine in this century, but still isn't too happy with letting foreigners inside his country.

Daily Life
1. What is the character's financial situation? Is he rich, poor, comfortable, in debt? Saitou lives the code of the bushido, which is part of the code of the Shinsengumi - means he does not value wealth or money, and only spends what he needs. Lavish items don't interest him and neither do offers of money rewards or the like.

2. What is his social status? Has this changed over time, and if so, how has the change affected him? Probably lower middle class when he was young and still with his family. Doesn't particularly care what class he has, either way.

3. Where does he live? House, apartment, trailer? Is his home his castle or just a place to crash? What condition is it in? Does he share it with others? At C&C he lived on Hell Towers 10th floor with Kiryu, mostly for the fact that Kiryu had had so many nightmares while they lived at an abandoned motel, he figured not having to run back-and-forth between rooms every night would be ideal. It also was just nice to have the company, whenever Kiryu didn't have a nightmare coming on.

4. Besides the basic necessities, what does he spend his money on? Cigarettes, cigarettes, sword polish, cigarettes. Probably shoe polish also, why not.

5. What does he do for a living? Is he good at it? Does he enjoy it, or would he rather be doing something else? Saitou loves his job as a policeman. Especially being able to work undercover and still kill evildoers. Even if it is under the Meiji government, but he's positive the government won't last. Slaying evil, however, is a job that exceeds all others.

6. What are his interests or hobbies? How does he spend his free time? Saitou enjoys the library and reading up on Japan's history after his time period. He was very dismayed about the World Wars, and about what happened in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. A lot of times he can be caught (as a wolf) hanging around Central Park and resting his eyes for a while and clearing his thoughts. Because Saitou thinks very often, and very much, and has to clear his head a few times a day.

7. What are his eating habits? Does he skip meals, eat out, drink alcohol, avoid certain foods? Saitou loves plain hot soba, and always will - no matter the canon. He also enjoys some sushi, but American fast food is something Saitou will probably never enjoy - no matter how many people might pressure him into trying a cheeseburger. Just isn't the same as soba, and never will be. Saitou's tolerance for alcohol is not very strong, which isn't a good thing considering a drunk Saitou wants to kill everything in sight. He has since stopped drinking to keep from attacking someone who didn't deserve to die.
