what is it about seattle?

Sci fi writers in the 70's through to the 90's liked nuking Seattle.... why?
But now since the turn of the century/millennia chicago is the one getting whacked in sci fi stories.
Im reading another sci fi series Harry Turtledove's balance WW2 series where chicago gets whacked I was going to post about this as proof as an on going trend but I read further and lo and behold Seattle gets whacked by an alien nuke (chicago got whacked after a stalingradesque fight for the city and the bomb was detonated by the US army)
so what is it about seattle and chicago?
