The Doctor Who 50th anniversary episode was awesome. I got to see it in the theater and it was really worth it. The overall experience, the extras that were done just for the theater, the 3D, all of it was amazing.

The number of times that I have had this thought at work is frightening...

Unfortunately, I wouldn't bother saying this at work, but you can be sure that at some point when you are annoying a random store clerk, some of us are thinking this...or something a lot less polite but with the same intention, and we use shorter words that you can actually understand. (Oh, and the next time you are feeling superior to the person running your credit card through the cash register, keep in mind that he or she may actually have more formal education than you.)

Sorry, occasionally a workplace rant tends to surface despite my best intentions.

white collar is amazing

wc_squeeasked us to name our favorite thing about white collar...this is what I came up with off the top of my head...and at about 1:30 in the morning...*headdesk*

If I had to narrow it down to only one thing... umm, you know what? never mind, I can't narrow it down,... *sheepish*

So, onwards to the list...

Neal, and of course Matt Bomer (because Neal just wouldn't _be_ Neal without Matt.)

and if i've got Neal / Matt on the list, i've got to include the rest of the cast, because not only is the interaction between the characters great fun to watch, all the actors involved mesh perfectly with their characters, and their characters work with the mood / tone of the show. (as an example: pick any character, and try to picture the show either without the character, or with the character depicted by someone else, it just doesn't work - the 'character' of the show itself would change.)

That seems to bring me to the show in general: -the tone: generally lighthearted, which i love, because it's such a welcome relief from the mountain of: negative / dark / serious / reality...programming that's out there.

the production or style of the show: energetic, stylish without being overly stylized, (does that make sense?), I love the romanticism of how NY is viewed, and the nod to the classic styles that the show uses.

the overall quality: right from the beginning, each show was really well done, and in almost 4 seasons, there have been remarkably few episodes that I could classify as "filler / what were they thinking?!?" episodes.

the intelligence: WC isn't a show that aims for the lowest common denominator, it's usually clever, it's always interesting, and even when we know what's going to happen, we still enjoy the path the characters take to get to the conclusion.

*** the character building:*** Neal in particular, and Peter too. I can't remember the last show I watched that devoted this much effort into building its characters, not only to establish a character, but to allow the characters to grow and develop in different ways.

the morality / ethics: of both the characters, and the show in general. From the Burkes' marriage, to Neals' loyalty, to the values placed on friendship, trust and honesty. In a certain sense, what I really like about the ethics of the show is the old fashioned sense of honor that each character has. Yes, they all have their morally grey areas, (some obviously more than others,) but every protagonist on the show has a streak of honorable behavior and that really infuses the show with a feeling of optimism.

Five things the SGA expedition found in the dryer while doing laundry:

1. Lt. Fords' ball cap.

After the first couple of months on Atlantis, Sheppard has a list of personnel who are never, under any circumstance, to be allowed to do the laundry on their own. Elisabeth thinks John is being overly critical, but there are certain facts that tilt the argument in his favor. Beginning with the fact that although they try their best, very few of the expedition team actually know how to _do_ laundry, nor do they know which items should and should not go into a dryer if they want it to survive the cleaning process. And the less said about Teyla's favorite blue top, and Carson's knitted sweater the safer Sheppard will feel when sparing with Teyla and during post mission check-ups.

2. Ancient Artifact numbers: 73594, 83653, 835527, and 288452.

Clearly, there needs to be more extensive checking of the science team uniforms before they are thrown into the wash. This fact was regrettably reinforced after artifact 83653 was discovered to have had a negative reaction to heat after Lt. Cadman and her team uncovered the source of the explosion.

3. Those strange not-a-gerbil creatures from PTS-832.

Who, thankfully, seemed to enjoy not only the bath, but the warmth of the dryer, and reassured Elisabeth that the treaty would indeed be signed, now that they had first hand experience of how generous and welcoming the expedition was by insisting their diplomats have a relaxing a trip to the Spa built by the Ancestors.

4. Knives

Which unfortunately equals lots of shredded clothing. Subsequently, the rise in attendance in the informal, Sewing for Beginners, lessons has prompted Chuck to add more classes, Sheppard to revise his instructions of how to search laundry items, and Lorne to requisition metal detectors for those on laundry detail.

5. Socks

Regrettably these socks do not belonging to the expedition. However, the mystery of where lost dryer socks go seems to have been solved. McKay is working on a formula to send them all back to their original dryers, but at this point it isn't looking promising. Fortunately, he has managed to stop new socks from arriving, and has also created an algorithm to prevent the expeditions' socks from disappearing.

The guy on the Harley who decided to wear green crocs with his leather biker jacket and jeans...seriously not only are crocs just wrong in general, worse on men, but on a biker? and he had to choose the lime green ones? what was he thinking? "it won't clash with the black leather."

I loved this show when i finally got around to watching it. & I will admit, one of the reasons i picked up the first season was because i had heard how the fans had actually convinced the network to green light a second season after it had been canceled. (I figured that any show that could get that much devotion from its' fan base deserved a look, and really, if you haven't seen it...you should)

Taking in the dubious look Daniel had on his face, Jack drummed his fingers on the edge of the desk for a moment. “Well, what do you think it is then?” he asked.

Daniel pulled a notebook from the pile on the desk, “there’s an earlier reference here that says that the attendants were responsible for ensuring that every object was configured to match exactly to each individuals’ special requirements and personality, although requirements in this case could also be taken to mean dexterity. So given that, plus the level of technology this civilization achieved, and the dimensions that Sam gave us, I was leaning more towards a personal computer or translator device myself.”

“Look, you see that little square on the upper left block?” Jack said, as he pointed at the area in question. “That tells us what it is.”

Looking at the offending bit Jack was gesturing at, Daniel frowned, “you know, if we go to General Hammond, and tell him that you’ve managed to translate this piece as ‘…and all the delegates had to be in possession of their own personal umbrella prior to being granted admission to the council…’ he’s going to have Janet calling in the psychiatric team for both of us…again.”

well, since i'm rec'ing vids for my favorite shows, i'd though i'd go back a little bit, and post a vid for one of my early favorites, M*A*S*H. I know, I know, it's an "older" show, but it's something I enjoy watching when it's on. (I still find that turning on an episode is a good way to let the mind relax...especially the earlier episodes, which were particularly ridiculous, but oh so much fun ;)

For anyone in the SGA fandom who hasn't already read it (& thus who must have been either: in a coma, living in a cave or an alternative universe of their own) i'd like to say welcome back, and also to rec the first fic in the Retrograde 'verse...

In the words of the author, Martha Wilson, "The Atlantis expedition has been lost for three years. SG-1 goes to find them, and arrives just a little too late."
So, it's obviously an au, & a crossover, it's also absolutely brilliant. It's one of those fanfics that I can envision as an actual episode (if said episode involved crossing into another universe :P)

I was finally able to go see the movie 'source code' a few days ago, and I can't recommend it enough. Brilliant acting job by Gyllenhaal, and a story that hits a number of my favorite areas: it's an action movie, a thriller, and it has some great character moments, (not to mention a good dose of h/c for all you whumpers out there). It also included some decent (and intelligent) science fiction elements; these are ideas / concepts that are not merely used as plot devices, but also make you think about what you've just watched, something other movies *cough, inception, cough* tried to do but...well, it works much better here. In my opinion, I think the difference here may be that source code seems to come across as a more plausible story, whether it's because the characters are more engaging / sympathetic, or perhaps it's because the idea of a source code project seems all too plausible.... Just as with all really good science fiction, it takes an idea or situation, and modifies it to show what may occur down the road...

I love the editing of this vid: it's fast paced so it goes perfectly with the music track. The editor has also used interesting effects on the video clips, so that, despite the quickness of the transitions, the video never feels as though it's simply a bunch of clips thrown together at high speed...
