WARNING Softorbits DO NOT RESPECT THE INTEGRITY OF YOUR SYSTEMS. They build their programs and installers to bypass admin protections on program installation to allow non-admins like children and employees to install programs when they are not authorised or allowed to install unauthorised programs. They FORCE installation to the system drive, and force installation into an insecure folder hierarchy in the user AppData folders subfolder which is not write protected against non-elevated malware. I do not recommend the installation of such a self-serving malicious developer on your machines.
+ PROS: if you are not authorised or allowed to install software on the computer you use you can get into trouble by installing this!
- CONS:if you are not authorised or allowed to install software on the computer you use you can get into trouble by installing this!
It potentially wastes multiple gigabytes of your system drive with NO OPTION to place it all on a different bigger drive.
In my case the AI-function, though possible to chose and calculating a while, produces nothing; no error message and also no visible removal of the marked area.
Windows restart did not change the behaviour.
The standard removal calculations work, at least something.
Uninstallation uninstalled without any single question and left all the AI-files and Python remaining untouched on the drive, without any further comment.
New installation did not ask for installing AI again but also did not work.
For the likely case of uninstall I recommend you use some uninstaller with a snapshot function protocolling the installation to remove all those undocumented installations manually.
Thanks for the warning… I don’t want to be forced to dump nearly 6GBytes of AI inference downloads onto my system drive! This program installed using Softorbits poor installer choices is a nightmare! That’s what secondary and tertiary drives are for.
Hi
This seems to be “Photo Stamp Remover 16 with AI” which is also being offered at another giveaway site today?
My comment there after putting off installation:
“WHY is this “Destination location:C:\Users\xxx\AppData\Roaming\SoftOrbits\Photo Stamp Remover” the only possible installation destination shown in the set-up window and if the developer knows that, what do they mean in the same window with “Click install to continue, or click Back to review or change settings.”
There is NO => “Back” as there is only “Install” & “Cancel”. If you cancel & restart the setup, the only option shown is the language you want used for set-up!
Why can one not install in normal C:\Program Files or Program Files (x86) or choose another partition like I normally do`?
I hope WE can get some answers after putting off the installation, in my case.”
Another poster confirmed my observation. Unfortunately no response from that website’s operator or software publisher, at least yet.
It’d be nice if there’s a comment from the software folks.
The reason softorbits forces install into the logged in users AppData\Roaming hierarchy is they want people without administrator rights to install programs to be able to install their programs and bypass the computer owners authority to decide what software is running on their machines whether it be an employer or a parent softorbits want to bypass controls at all costs of infuriating legitimate admins that want to place the programs where they/we see fit. In my opinion as a computer admin that makes them bad actors in the software world. I have in the past decompiled the supplied installers and recompiled them with the NORMAL settings allowing me to put the installation where I want it but that only works when there is no massive after install download into a similarly bad fixed location on the system drive like todays piece of bloatware. I stopped bothering once I determined softorbits programs are mediocre at best and not worth the effort to even try let alone correct their broken installers.
The problem with the unchangeable installation path is there since many previos versions and seems to be a problem in all the newer programs from SoftOrbits.
So one might speculate how deep the support will go in the program itself if the maker is not even able to react on such a simple evident problem. At the same time the vendors output of new versions is enormous. And they all come with the same laughable installation problem.
Funny!
That doesn’t work also , this is the message I get during setup process :
The entered license key is invalid. License key is expired.
I think you should remove SoftOrbits Photo Stamp Remover app from your giveaway software list cos it would just waste people time and effort. There is no point to install a piece of software on your PC which does not accept an activation key and can not be activated !

tested: Photo Stamp Remover v16.3
Program installs without any possibility to chose the location into C:\Users\…\AppData\Roaming\SoftOrbits\Photo Stamp Remover
On first program start it asks to download and install additional 3GB AI-content. In truth There are around 6GB of additional data installed.
C:\Users\…\AppData\Roaming\softorbits\Py (Python 3.10.6, 109MB)
C:\Users\…\AppData\Roaming\softorbits\venv-ret-bkg (5,5GB)
