I strongly suspect this does not backup to cloud without the 3rd party cloud providers local client providing an enumerable cloud folder, my reasoning being the version history makes no mention of the word “cloud” or any known cloud provider and I find it extremely unlikely this had native support for all current cloud providers from its inception and never needed to upgrade the protocols for different authentication methods over the years.
IF my suspicions are correct the “cloud backups” are just as vulnerable to ransomware encryption as local files or any other file stored via the local cloud clients. So don’t think your safe from losing access to your own data in the even of a ransomware attack.
I have not found out for sure as I don’t give out my emails to untrustworthy vendors that demand the right to spam you from the start even if they give you an unsubscribe link and also make dubious feature claims like this one has. And without giving them an email it is impossible to even try out the personal edition let alone the pro! That’s assuming their emails are accepted by all email providers and never fail to arrive which NO ONE can guarantee as email is not an assured delivery mechanism.
