be a part of something that will last for generations
WINGATE PLAYGROUND Project

Wingate Elementary School serves around 500 students and shares a playground with an entire community. The current playground was built in 1982, and there are numerous families of various ages and abilities in the school and community that use this park. However, this playground desperately needs maintenance and updating, and above all, lacks accessibility to many.
This is why Wingate is asking for the community’s support so that all park users can access an inclusive playground where children and users of all abilities can PLAY!

What is an inclusive playground?
A universally designed, sensory-rich environment that enables children to develop physically, socially, and emotionally. An engaging place that provides the just-right level of challenge and offers opportunities to succeed. A place that goes beyond minimum accessibility to create play experiences that meet various needs and interests.
Well-designed inclusive play spaces and parks welcome people, especially children of all abilities, to play, learn and grow together. But did you know that their benefits extend even further? Inclusive play areas also allow adults of varying ages and abilities to engage actively with the children in their care. This playground can become a truly multi-generational gathering space for community enjoyment, socialization, healthy bodies, and imaginative fun.
OUR MISSION
To fund and replace the playground at Wingate Elementary School with an inclusive playground that serves all abilities and ages.
OUR VISION
Below is a list of some features we are hoping to include:
– Sensory features
– Wheelchair-compatible swing
– Wheelchair-compatible walkway
– Rubber surface to allow all abilities to move easily throughout
– ADA Zipline
– Shaded areas
– Space for the visually impaired with sound and musical features
– Structures that serve younger kids as well as older kids
OUR GOAL
Raise $100,000+
Careful calculations and estimated bids from a professional playground design company helped inform us of what we can and what we need. We are confident our community will want to accomplish this goal for the generations of children to come to the area. We know this is a huge endeavor, which is why we couldn’t do this without your support.
More about WINGATE PARK
- Wingate serves kids and families over a large footprint spanning Glade Park, Orchard Mesa, and the Redlands.
- Children, seniors, and families use the park and playground daily and year-round.
- It is one of two parks within a 5-mile radius. The other park is much smaller and is also not compliant with ADA.
- When completed, this park will be the only fully inclusive, ADA-accessible park in the Redlands area. It will also provide children of all ages with play structures designed to suit their age group.

“A little girl in Mrs. Woodworth’s class came over to say hello to Lilly. She was asking questions, and we were talking. She asked if we could come into the playground, and I told her we couldn’t because we would get stuck in the wood chips and rocks. Then the girl said, “Then how does she have fun on the playground?” – Amie Schraeder
