*This isn't a network post, but rather, a piece of paper painfully scrawled upon by someone who could obviously barely move her hand to write. However it got out of its writer's hands, your characters may find it floating around the settlement where everyone's standing at the end of the game, moved around by the wind.*

the ground is still there
the sky is still there
even if the flowers wither
theres still ground for flowers to grow in
even if the birds fall
theres still a sky for birds to fly in
there are clouds
but the moon is still behind them
the air is still
but the wind will come back

we did it

In cases like this... I should apologize. My name is DF Experiment Subject 65L. For surviving this long, I earned a codename: Windy. We all had names like that. Anyway. I like "Kiryuu Kaoru" better than either of those other names I had. Keep calling me that.

And yes, I'm a monster. I don't know what I was before that. I exist to kill and destroy whatever I'm told to. I left the facility on my own to see what the world was really like. That was how I ended up with you. You were interesting. In the end, I decided... that, even though I live only to destroy life, I myself still live, so that's... pointless. *It's almost like she's smiling, saying the word she so often overuses.*

There are more important things going on, though. I don't have all the answers you need. The oversized difference engine Hiruma looked through had a lot of things I didn't know. I do know that the others were transported from the lab and set on the damaged Badlands. I was supposed to go with them. There are two things about that that I need to say.

One. We can't let the continent be destroyed.

Two. I know I'm still hurt from the fight in the warehouse, but I can move. There's a girl my age among the experiments. She looks like me, only different. I mean, the pale skin and the way my eyes look different from any of yours.

Bright was my partner. Leave her to me.

I'm going. Let's just leave it at the fact that I can't stay.

Be careful. It's dangerous to wait around in one place for too long, you know.

(Kaoru won't be responding to this post, though you may thread amongst yourselves about her abrupt exit and cryptic not-warning. Anyone going to her room -- yes, she has a room, it just hasn't got a bed and she sleeps in the infirmary -- will find the three books she owns [one on Amicus, one a history of Reial, and one a sex ed textbook] and the bracelet cobbled together from bits of metal that Erika got her for Lunasa, as well as various flowers she received for Amicus drying on her desk. You may call dibs on her abandoned stuff if you wish, though some of you might be less inclined to than others.)

Amicus? That's the holiday with the flowers. You tell people how you feel about them by giving them specific ones.

Why do you need to do that? I know people are always preoccupied with caring about one another or something like that, but does it need its own day?

[private|text|medium-easy]

None of this really matters. I should stop thinking about it.

As for the giant robot... its existence is pointless, so I don't care about that, either. That's natural to think.

The only one that will be destroying anything is me, after all. So that's why.

(Kaoru's still making herself scarce and trying to stay out of the event for the most part, but she doesn't see anything wrong with making a public post about something "pointless". Besides, this caring-about-other-people thing has been confusing her for months.)

Her dresses and skirts all have slits in them for easier movement, and she usually wears black tights and sturdy boots underneath. She allows herself exactly two accessories to spice up her very drab wardrobe: one is a plain blue hair clip at the back of her head that she pulls her hair back with, the other is a blue diamond-shaped jewel on a simple string.

As much as her clothes don't stand out, though, she can't help but draw some odd looks anyway. Her skin has no colour whatsoever, making her look either like a ghost or the unfortunate victim of a bucket of bleach. Of course, if it were the latter, her hair would be white too; instead, it's a deep ultramarine, very straight, pulled completely out of her face and reaching the middle of her back. Her eyes are pale blue, which isn't strange in and of itself, but they reflect very little light compared to most people's, and they appear permanently dilated. Apparently she looked normal once upon a time, but she doesn't know and she doesn't care.

Personality: Kaoru is loyal to her masters... to a point. She dislikes being ordered around, and will outright disobey orders if she likes an alternative better and she thinks it won't matter in the long run. Insubordination and even challenging her superiors are no big deal to her, which earns her the reputation of being "whimsical like the wind", but only if she has a good reason and the ability to back it up. She is working for the betterment of the organization, as she'll say when confronted. If someone who isn't her boss tries to tell her to do things, even if it's just a request or a suggestion, she'll take it as an order and just tell them that she doesn't like being told what to do.

So why does she follow anyone in the first place, you might ask? After all, she's only thirteen years old, she doesn't take orders half the time, and her most common phrase is "How pointless". The answer is simple and twofold: she doesn't know anything else, and she thinks she has to. Kaoru is sheltered and disconnected from the world, and though she's very adaptable and can figure things out very quickly with explanations, she has no idea what anything is. She thinks her fate has led her to her current situation and that she can't escape it, so she might as well not think about it. Eventually, she does think about it, and has to keep being told to stop wondering what would happen if she decided to stop and become a nice normal person. Until enough friendship speeches thaw her out, though, it's still a big "if". (She might, however, sabotage someone else for altruistic reasons and then use the excuse that she had already claimed what they were going to do.)

Kaoru is not the most social of people. While her sister at least attempts to integrate the two of them into society and make friends to get further in their plans, Kaoru just doesn't care about what most people think is important. She realizes that she's bad at social situations, though, and while she at first is completely fine with it, she quickly realizes that it doesn't help her and respects people who are good at getting others to like them. It's still not her thing, though, and so she focuses on what she can do.

Abilities/Weapons:

Evil Destruction Blobs - I don't know what else to call them. The power of destruction, something she was made to grasp early on, allows Kaoru to shoot out projectile balls of <s>conspicuous CGI</s> void magic. All the fun of shooting people without the evidence, I suppose. These vary in size and colour; the tiniest ones, which are black, are the size of her palm, large red ones are half her height and perfectly round, and those in between are purple. The smaller it is, the quicker and easier it is to cast.

Wind - Kaoru does normal magic, too! She can only use wind spells, but she does all right with them. Given the choice, though, she usually just uses the power of destruction or...

Just Plain Punching People In The Face - This. She's strong, flexible and quick, and can hold her own in a fight. She usually relies on her maneuverability.

Crazy-Fast Learner - Upon reading basic instructions, Kaoru can do something well even if she's never even heard of it before.

How well can your character hack?: Medium-easy. She's very adaptable and very smart, and usually a simple explanation will do to get her to understand something; once she learned what a journal was and was taught how to use it, she got it immediately. Information gathering is her specialty. On the other hand, she's not godmode, and she is only 13.

Weaknesses:

Knows Nothing Ever - You know that "crazy-fast learner" skill? She actually needs it. Kaoru has never encountered normal society before, and she doesn't even know you're supposed to eat lunch in the middle of the day. Seriously.

No People Skills - Kaoru hasn't been in society before, and she sees a world where nothing matters, nobody cares, and everybody just wants to use everybody else. She has to be constantly reminded to be social and take an interest in other people, even if doing so would help her cause, because she just doesn't get it.

Swayable - Kaoru's nihilism gets very frustrating, but it is possible to very slowly change her mind about things. A part of her wants to understand the world, even though she says and feels like everything is pointless, and she will inevitably start to wonder why some people believe there is value and meaning in it. This will take a while and she'll resist the whole way, probably with people keeping her in line, but it's possible.

Rebellious - To a point. Kaoru doesn't mind working towards a goal, even or especially if this involves wanton destruction and heartbreak, but she can't stand being ordered around. If she gets an order and she thinks she knows how to do the job better, she'll probably do it her way when no one is looking.

History: Kaoru doesn't know where she came from or even if Kiryuu Kaoru is her real name. Her story is all too common in Reial's underworld in these times: a child picked up off the street, taken from an orphanage, or stolen from an unsuspecting family before s/he is old enough to remember anything but the facility s/he is subsequently raised in. Kaoru and her sister, Michiru -- they don't even know if they are sisters, or what that means, but they were raised together at the least and have the same family name -- were highly sheltered and given very specialized training as part of a Philosopher-funded experiment called Dark Fall. The experiment utilized an untested force dubbed "the power of destruction", infusing it directly with the subjects. Kaoru's eyes went half-blank and her skin bleached, but otherwise there were no visible ill effects.

The power itself went through Kaoru almost perfectly. She was tested in fighting both with and without it, and she complied because she didn't have any good reason not to. She grew up believing that she had no options in life, that nothing had any value, and that all she could do was work for other people's dreams. More than believing it, she took it as natural fact. That didn't mean she had to like it, though. She looked down on other people in her position, especially when they made mistakes, and noted that she could have and would have done better than they had.

Kaoru's training was in no way done by the time she was thirteen. Sure, she could fight, and she knew how to use the power she'd been given well enough, but she knew very little about the outside world, she was horribly antisocial even by deadly secret project child standards, and she didn't have enough experience behind her. The one field task she did complete was a joint effort with her sister that ended in the death of a very small, vulnerable settlement in the Badlands and the destruction of the oasis it was built around, the Fountain of the Sky. Well, the death of most of the settlement. While surveying the damage as they were about to leave, Kaoru spotted a dead tree about to fall onto two small creatures. She caught it and tossed it out of the way, then walked away without paying any more attention to them. When Michiru asked why she'd done it, she said the tree was in her way, and that was that. Neither put that incident on the mission report.

Though Kaoru wasn't supposed to leave the facility on a long-term basis yet, nor was she entirely ready yet, she began to hear stories about what the field operatives were doing. Successes interested her, but failures even more so, especially when names of ships and people cropped up more and more in the reports. She had to see these people for herself. And so, she walked out when nobody was watching her and went to track down some of the names she'd heard before. Serenity interested her, especially after she heard about the defeated rebels running it, and she made her way on. Her bosses know where she's gone by now, since she's made it no secret, but her immediate superior hasn't called her back yet. He finds the development too interesting and is waiting to see how it turns out...

SAMPLES-

Third Person (roleplay):

The wind felt nice.

The night was deep blue, with stars scattered all around the floating islands and the moon hovering above, glowing in the light night fog. Without any other light, it was difficult to make her out, a slight thirteen-year-old girl in a simple grey and black dress. She sat on top of the brick wall.

"Get down from there."

She turned her head and stared at the guard. "Why?"

He gulped. Her expression didn't change; after the rumours about all the other ones, nobody wanted to be in charge of the kids from the experiments. Any of the experiments, really, but especially the superweapon ones. That was what she had heard, anyway. Well, who cared.

"Y-you're not supposed to. ...You could fall, or get lost."

"How stupid." She stood up and looked down at the guard. "I don't fall and I know my way around. How can somebody employed here say stupid things like that?"

The guard shook, holding up his lantern. He startled and stepped back as the lamplight hit her eyes. She frowned and walked off, balancing on the wall all the way to the other side of the enclosure before jumping down and landing on her feet. The girl rose and looked up at the moon. When the light wasn't shining on her, it might have been easy to forget that her eyes wouldn't reflect it.

The wind picked up as she walked back inside the building.

First Person (journal):

I tried listening to the radio today. Nothing interesting was on. Is there ever anything good?

The only one I listened to long enough was the one at 8:00 on the 12.9 frequency. I don't know what it was called. I didn't understand it at all. Did any of it really happen? Why did the warrior want to save the princess, anyway? She wasn't from his country. She didn't have anything he wanted. He should have just left her to die, right?

I also wanted to know why mysterious voices cut into the story with messages. The voices were louder than the characters', but it was as if the main character didn't even hear them. They were speaking in code. I tried to decipher it, but I wasn't sure what "buy chicken" or "be sure to drink your chocolate milk" meant or how they would help the warrior save the princess.

Pointless.

CHARACTER INFORMATION

Name: Kaoru Kiryuu
Fandom: Futari wa Precure (Pretty Cure) Splash☆Star

Summary of Original History: An organization called Dark Fall exists, led by a man named Lord Akudaikaan, and aims to destroy a series of magical fountains, each of which sustains a world. For this purpose, a number of beings were created with something called "the power of destruction", two of whom were a pair of relatively human twin girls with freaky-looking eyes. Michiru and Kaoru, the Kiryuu sisters, were sent to the Land of Fountains to break fountains and kill spirits. This largely worked. After the Fountain of the Sky dried up, by chance, the twins passed by a falling tree that was about to crush two little spirits named Moop and Fuup. Kaoru caught the tree and threw it to the side, justifying her decision to her sister by saying that it had nothing to do with the spirits and the tree was just getting on her nerves. They left without killing Moop and Fuup, and out of eternal gratitude, the spirits stalked them wherever they went.

Then they were sent to another world, the Land of Greenery, which housed the Fountain of the Sun. Problem is, Dark Fall has no idea where this fountain is, and two preteen girls have joined forces with some refugee spirits to become the legendary warriors, Pretty Cure! Precure for short. Michiru and Kaoru went to infiltrate their school and then go kill them. Kaoru befriends a cute little girl who happens to be a Cure's sister, she and Michiru slowly get used to the Land of Greenery despite not knowing what anything is, and what follows is a few episodes of:

KAORU: Can we turn good yet?
MICHIRU: No.

...before they finally reveal themselves to the Cures and fight. They lose to the power of friendship speeches and decide to plead to Akudaikaan to change his mind. It nearly works, but Akudaikaan's doofy-looking assistant, Gouyaan, convinces him to seal the twins away forever at the bottom of the ocean in Dark Fall instead. Jerk. But they get out thanks to the spirits a good nineteen episodes later after Precure rebuild all the fountains they and their coworkers trashed, and fight with the Cures for a while. They defeat Akudaikaan, Gouyaan reveals that he was the mastermind behind Dark Fall, and Michiru and Kaoru join forces with Moop and Fuup to become Cure Bright and Cure Windy. Gouyaan destroys the world. Four Cures put it back together and vaporize him. Michiru and Kaoru are forevermore ignored by movies and merchandise. The end.

AU History: Kiryuu Kaoru and her twin sister Michiru were born to an eccentric family of magi who live in the mountains. By "eccentric family", I mean "miniature insane asylum". Their father, Akudaikaan, and their grandfather, Gouyaan, were constantly present and only let a few close associates into the house, not letting either of the twins out. The house was a dictatorship, and while their father was supposedly the one in charge, it was secretlly Gouyaan pulling all the strings by making subtle suggestions and insulting all of the family's associates when they made mistakes.

The Kiryuu family has never won any time that there's been a Holy Grail War. They've often come close, but have always been defeated. This might have contributed to the messed-up relatives. Either way, the girls were brought up to have nothing in mind but winning the War when it next came around. They were given intensive magic training and even had their bodies modified to force their abilities to improve, a painful process that left their eyes dilated permanently, but had very little knowledge of social interaction. Of the two, Kaoru was chosen as the heir of the family because she seemed to be the most malleable one and would believe everything she was told. Hence, it was she who became a Master in this particular War. She was sent out into the world for the first time, enrolled in school and given a small home in Fuyuki City. The rest is up to her.

Personality: Kaoru is, as a rule, unfriendly to strangers. She doesn't trust anyone she's just met to care anything about her, so she sees no reason to be nice to them. If they are nice to her, consider her brain quite broken. The only one she says she cares about is Michiru, since, as far as she knows, Michiru is the only one who cares about her. She does have a sense of empathy, but she tries to hide it well, because she believes that she can't escape her family's wishes.

Though she's a fast learner, Kaoru is quite naive and sheltered, and though she's been given the basics on fighting the War, she hasn't been given the basics on day-to-day life. She doesn't even know that you're supposed to eat lunch in the middle of the day. This is the main reason that she's completely obedient to her father and grandfather. Though she'll say that this is out of sharing the same goals of gaining the Grail for her family (although she has no idea what they want to wish for), the truth is, she hasn't given it any thought at all. She also thinks that everything in Fuyuki City is just like how her family is at home; she takes suggestions as orders, and so, unless she has respect for you, she'll brush you off if you so much as ask her to join the basketball team because she doesn't want to be your subordinate.

Kaoru is incredibly afraid of offending her father because she knows he'll probably kill her if she does, but she could be persuaded to turn against him and her grandfather with friendship speeches and the assurance that people strong enough to survive would be helping her. You'd have to get her to develop a sense of purpose first, though.

FOR MASTERS

Powers/Specialties:
*Kaoru is a fast learner. Once given instructions, she can pull something off quite well with no previous knowledge on the subject. In canon, she became one of the best volleyball players in her class minutes after being told the rules of the game.
*Kaoru's natural element is wind. However, her father has also trained her in a different technique that allows her to control glowy black, purple or red balls of pure energy. He encourages her to use these sorts of spells more often, referring to them as the "power of destruction" because he's an absolute nutcase.

Any preferences for Servant personality?: Looking for a substitute Michiru; that is, someone who can convince her to kill things when she starts wavering, but who may or may not eventually change halfway through.

Player Availability: My time zone is complicated, as we do not observe Daylight Savings Time. I'm officially in Central Standard Time, but during DST you could just say I'm in Mountain Time. Or just read this. I'm available pretty much whenever.

Apping with a Servant? No :o

SAMPLES

First-person:

This "school" thing is getting on my nerves. Why do we have to go to it? Is it normal for these people?

I still don't want to. The teacher just forces people to do these "homeworks". It's pointless.

...If Akudaikaan-sama wants me to go to school, though, I'll keep going. Don't tell him about this.

Third-person:

Kaoru stopped walking in the middle of the street and turned her head. The building over on her right had wide open doors, flashing lights and strange machines everywhere. She walked straight into it, past the "ARCADE" sign, and stopped in front of a game. The next few minutes were spent staring at the machine, poking at its buttons and playing around with the light gun.

"Excuse me?"

Kaoru turned around and pointed the plastic weapon at the arcade employee who had addressed her. He flailed for a bit before blinking and scratching the back of his head. "Uh... need some help there?"

She looked at the gun and then at the screen on the machine. "How does this work?"

He raised an eyebrow and stepped a bit away from her. "You have to put a coin in first," he said, pointing at the coin slot. "Then shoot the screen to start. Most of the moving's done for you, so all you need to do is shoot at the zombies and avoid shooting the normal humans. Okay?"

Kaoru paused. "Which ones are the zombies?"

The arcade worker sweatdropped. "Uh, the dead-looking ones. You know, the grey ones. With ripped clothes and missing body parts."

"All right." The strange girl put in a dull, beaten coin and shot the screen. Satisfied with the easiest question he'd ever had to answer in his career, the worker walked off to deal with something else.

A while later, he was flagged down by the same girl.

"Yes?" He held back a sigh up until he stopped in his tracks.

She stared back at him with blank eyes. "This screen tells me to write my name." Her gun arm pointed directly at the machine, indicating the high score screen.

The worker leaned forward and gaped. "That's... That's a hundred points better than the top score on that machine." He looked up at her. "Way better than anything I could do!"

Kaoru didn't seem to care, her expression staying the same. "How do I write my name with the gun?"
