Although the blank, blind glare of the sun has long since slipped behind the lid of the horizon, the sand beneath her still feels warm. She lets handfuls slip through her fingers, tick-tick-tock. Someone’s hourglass shall run out tonight.

Daddy, massive, lounges alongside her.

A pale white crab scuttles over, flecked with surf and sand. Drusilla’s hand is a whiter, larger crab beside it. It crawls over her fingers and she feels the prickle of its spindly shanks against her skin.

Step one: Sit behind yor desk and look v. v. WISE and INSCURTABLE. Havving a pipe helps also perhaps a robe with a hood. Wate for students to stop chuking bits of bunjy, papers, inkwells, dead rats, foopballs, knievs, old tomatoes ect ect.

Step two: After it becom evidint by the clock that the torent is in no dangir of stoping below, 'Rite now, enuogh nonsense, sit down or the lot of you will get six'. Bang yor cane on the desk for Emfasis'. Discovver too late that the cane has been sawwed thruogh and clevverly held togethir by sawdust and gum.

You now hav the new Mark One Extra Short Cane (Sutable For Recalkitrent Midjits). Class rore with apreshitive larfter, jeers, catcalls, ect.

Step Three: Restore order by shouting til the vane in yor foerhed goes 'ping'. Threten disembowlmint, defenistration, deten, 10,000 lines, wacks on the nuckels for all w. razor sharp iron ruller.

When class setels down at last, go to the blackbored and write up soemthing like: 'BOTINY: Describe the alchmickal propertys of wickir and bamboo respectively and explane why they are or are not analojous to wood with respeckt to the vampiric Constitushun'.

A torent of spit balls fly thruogh the air when yor Majestick back is truned. Just as you turn round to demand to know wot is going on, you catch a spit wod in the earhole and an ink botel crash on the blackbored.

Step Four: TURN INTO A RAVING LOONEY FOR THE NEXT FIVE MIN

Step Five: Enter names into the Punishmint Book. Cast a steley eyed glowwer around the room wich freezes the atmosfeer by 20 degrees. Icickles grow from the windowpanes, the clock stop in its tracks, a ghastly shudder is heard to grone from the pipes, ect. ect.

All students are bisy copying out 20 pages of Catullus and assorted Latin Phrasis (Dissipline of the corpus and dissiplin of the mentus go hand in hand hem hem). The room is steped in Learning, Dilligence, and Plots of Mutiny held under the breth.

A student raises a quavering hand. Glare at him with a lothesome Vissage (TM) and demand in a voice to curdel the blud, 'WELL, BOY?'

'Plese sir, you hav got some ink on yor face.'

Step Seven: Tell the litel roters that you are not wasting yor time if they are not going to put forth any Effort. Thanks to quietdream for compiling char profiles and coding.

This is a master list of char journals and char profiles and will include char and players' AIM contact info with permission of the players. This is to facilitate IC play and OOC char discussion.

New char/player info will be added if and when players add their char profiles. Currently, Buffy, Dru, Darla, Ellis, Graham, Joshua, Margaret, Sabe, Senri, Steve and Zag don't have char profiles.

Please contact me via PM with your AIM contact info if you are willing to have it made public, otherwise, I will assume you want to keep it private.

Profile: I believe that everybody coming along on this little jaunt knows me, and knows what I am capable of. With that in mind, I am sure that we all will be on our best behaviours, and will all endeavour to keep our differences private, and to show courtesy and gratitude to the hosts and the lovely people at the Disney resort.

Everybody should have received a missive from me regarding my wife, Magdalena. However, just to reiterate-- Magdalena is my wife and Consort, as well as being Darla's mate. Therefore, I look forward to everyone treating her with graciousness and respect, and am sure that everyone will have the taste and intelligence to appreciate her genius.

I am sure that you have all heard that my younger boy, William, recently was severely injured by a Slayer. I am pleased to say he has made a full recovery, and have generously agreed to arrange and facilitate this trip to celebrate.

William's older brother has informed me that he feels left out, as I have warned people about his other siblings, but not about him. So, I will mention that Wills is a graduate student, who likes things like social unrest and overthrowing governments, and other such student activities. He also tends to look rather scruffy but despite appearances, is not actually homeless. He tends to have 'earbuds' in his ears at all times, and has an opinion on any subject one might be discussing, regardless of personal experience.

OOC profile: Angelus is a 277 year old Master vampire, whose territory has expanded to include several portions of the US, including territory in New York, Ohio, Illinois, and California. He has relaxed a little in the interim since his boys are no longer fledges, although he can be just as infuriating, annoying and at times scary when he is relaxed and 'playful'.

Angelus is still a consummate businessman and negotiator, and still engages in his 'projects' as well as the traditional Master vampire pursuits of hunting, stalking and war. When he is not being an overlord, he devotes his time to his family, and working as a patron and participant in Magdalena's 'Art'. He is just about as overprotective of Parvati and Graham as he was with his own boys when they were fledges, with a dose of grandsirely doting to boot.

Angelus intends to enjoy himself at Disney, and to see that Parvati, Dru and various other members of the group are able to attend a 'princess tea'. He also intends to engage in some Art with Magdalena, and to facilitate much consumerism and thrill ride going with Spike and Graham.

Angelus delights in causing strife and chaos for others, but is not so fond of it when it affects him personally. He currently is wrangling the various strong personalities of his family and extended family, and as such, may not have time to meddle inordinately into the lives of others. Angelus has been under considerable stress recently, due to familial and business issues as well as Spike's recent accident, so he is determined (rather unreasonably) that everybody is going to have a good time and get along.

Angelus will undoubtedly be engaged in at least one family conflict, but it will ideally take place in private. He does not expect to have to resort to extreme measures with his traveling companions, because he expects that they all will have the sense to be polite to him, Darla and Magdalena, and not to place his grandchildren in danger.

Profile: Hallo all, it's Arthur. I'm looking forward to seeing some old familiar faces again, as well of course as spending the holidays with my family. The kids are especially excited about all the rides and doing the Disney thing, although frankly, I'm a bit opposed to the rampant consumerism and think they could use a bit less plastic.

By the way, I'm putting in my vote now for the next family holiday jaunt to be to the Harry Potter theme park down in Florida.

OOC profile: Arthur is now a Doctor of Metaphysics at Chimerical College, Cambridge. He also works in conjunction with the British Museum's Department of Magical Research. Arthur is a Master vampire, and also possesses PhDs in Physics, Maths and Higher Magics.

Arthur is also the Sire to two fledges, six year old Parvati ("Pavi") and two year old Graham, who were both former students of his. Arthur may seem extremely down to earth and mild mannered for a Master vampire. Nonetheless, no Master manages to keep his territory unless he is willing and able to defend it, and so it may be assumed that Arthur is capable of just as much ruthlessness when it comes to the necessities of vampire 'business' as any other Master.

Arthur's talent for magic has been developed and gotten much stronger over the last 127 years. He is a skilled warlock and adept at various higher magics. Arthur is still reserved, with a very dry but occasionally absurd sense of humour, and takes Harry Potter and Unseen University jokes in stride.

Arthur's goals for the trip include doing his part to try and keep the family from going at each others' throats, and to ensure his children have a good time and don't bring themselves or others to any harm. He will attempt to mediate conflicts with rational discussion and good temper, but if his buttons are pushed, he might storm off for a long walk to cool down. He is a patient and firm, but somewhat lenient parent, who has clear, consistent expectations for the childrens' behaviour.

Profile: Right, so, events occured recently and I was stuck in a wheelchair for a while. Not my best moment. 'Gelus went temproarily insane during this time and coincidentally wound up getting spliced with Mags. Read into that what you will.

Now I have got a Sire, a Grandsire, a Stepmum, and a new brother who keeps insisting he is the older one and refuses to change his name just to be a prat. I am ambulatory and bipedal and Dru is now my official Consort. So, that should bring you up to speed regarding me.

I decided that in light of certain events, we ought to do a proper holiday bash this year in which everybody, friends and family alike, gets along and has a good time or else.

OOC profile: Spike is 127 years old and working as a Freelancer. He is still coming to terms with Wills's and Magdalena's existence, and with Angelus's behaviour when he was crippled, and having married Mags and made her his other Consort. Spike is also still recovering from nearly being killed, and being crippled, 18 months ago by a Slayer. His behaviour around his friends will probably indistinguishable from usual, but with his family, he is a bit more jealous and insecure than usual.

Spike will be spending most of his time on this trip with Dru, and also looking after Fritz, Joshua, Pavi, Graham and other 'kids'/young people. He will be cheerfully engaged in many arguments over many things, in his usual fashion. He is determined that people will have a good time and to have fun at the theme park, riding all the thrill rides, snogging Dru in the Haunted Mansion, having lightsabre fights with Graham, encouraging Fritz to get revenge on Aladdin, taking a side trip to the tar pits, and so forth.

Spike will be staying at the villas with his family part of the time but will spend most days in the hotel on the same floor as the other vacationers, operating a 'party suite' at the end of the floor, where he will facilitate alcohol-laced milkshakes, stolen breakfast buffet item feasts, nicked mini-bar item binges, impromptu dramatic presentations, movie marathons, games, light sabre fights, and other activities.

Sometimes I'm a big picture person, and lose sight of little things that might

Val is Ellis's proxy (in their vampire world, that's the human that's your legal
standin that can do your business for you and so forth), and has some innate
resistance to demonic powers. He's a former child actor, and current college
student at Columbia university. He's an education major with a concentration in
jazz studies. He loves music of all kinds, and fronts a jazz band called Lucky
Fedora and the Not Your Daddies.

Val's kind of quirky and has some issues - he doesn't like fighting and will
likely retreat and withdraw to go do something else if it's going on around him.
He has never been to an amusement park before, let alone Disney, and he's
excited about getting to go.

Thread rating explanation for Disney event -- thanks to quietdream!

There should be TWO ratings - one for sex, one for violence.

Any rating above green should be discussed with others OOCly before the thread happens - no suddenly springing sex, angst or violence on people. If a thread changes rating to yellow, the change must be posted in the thread topics, so that people can see before they open the thread. If the rating changes to red or black, a new, separate thread must be posted, with a warning about the rating in the link to the new thread. If you're not sure what rating to use, default to the higher possibility.

Sex
Green - no sex. Maybe a kiss, maybe a reference to something, but not a direct reference. Think 'Beauty and the Beast', or the Harry Potter movies. Think G or PG.

Yellow - Things are referenced, but don't happen on screen. Think 'Avatar', or 'Titanic' - they might be having sex, but the most you're going to see is a hand on a sweaty window. PG-13 Must be discussed with other players in the thread OOCly before anything happens.

Disney Thread Prewriting Prompt Night 1

Hallo! I am currently in CA and because I am lame, I am late starting this thread. Instead of attempting to run what might be a long and somewhat complex thread with a large group of people, some of whom barely have met, when I am out of town, I thought it would be better to begin the thread proper when I return home.

Until then, though, I think it might be fun to do prewriting prompts. Nobody HAS to do them, but if people involved would like to, I think it could be fun and also a good way to get to know one anothers' chars.

You can post your prompt responses in your own journals, and post a link as a reply to each night's prompt here, if you like.

Also, if you have more prewriting prompt ideas, just reply here to the Night One prompt thread!

Now, for the night's prompts...

1. Write up a Christmas newsletter entry for your char. Talk about your char's accomplishments for the past year, and feel free to include pictures if you like. Use this as a forum to talk about your char's relationships to other chars who are connected or related to them. (This can be considered meta for those chars who would never willingly do such a thing, or feel free to find an IC justification for it)

2. Write up a short synopsis about your character, oocly, as a character bio. You can include anything you think is most relevant about the char, including relations to other chars, what they are looking forward to about the trip, their thoughts about family holidays, their likes/dislikes, their hopes, New Year's resolutions, and so on.

3. Make a packing/to-do list for the trip for your char, ICly.

How To Get On In A Grupe Pt II: What Sort of Arsehole Are You

Right so part one of this manual discussed how grupes and teams operate and the basic structure, as well as a general very basic breakdown the Chain of Command which exists to try to prevent people from holding things up by arguing with every order or generally being twats.

Here in part two you get to fill out a quiz to determine what sort of arsehole you are when you are being an arsehole. Then we will move on to discuss how to overcome your natural tendencies when you are in a grupe so that things can operate more efficiently. Also if you take the quiz with friends you can discover what sort of arseholes they are and how to operate in a fashion that will minimise the likelihood of them behaving like arseholes in any given situation. Or conversely, how to use their arsehole qualities to your advantage and the good of the grupe.

Answer all questions honestly cos otherwise this is pointless. Scoring will come after the quiz.

1. You do not have to eat or drink. You are on an expedition with people who do. You have food and water. What do you do with it?

A. Eat/drink it anyway because it is fun, and it is your share.

B. Offer to let the people who need it have your share since you don't need it anyway. Then keep reminding them how you let them have your share.

C. Sell it to the people who need it, or barter/exchange for it in some way.

D. Pour out the water on the ground and laugh when they get upset.

E. Use the water to bathe with or water a plant with because it looked like it needed some and it is a living being with rights just as much as anyone.

2. You have a personal dislike or bias of a specific activity. However, you also happen to be the person in the grupe who is best at this activity. If a situation came up in which the grupe wants you to do the activity do you:

A. Give an explanation for refusing, but still refuse.

B. Agree, but then expect everybody to praise you and treat you like a hero because of it.

C. Reluctantly agree, but only for pay or special favours.

D. Stubbornly refuse, and throw a fit over even being asked.

E. Refuse and suggest that other people need to develop their own skills in the subject for their own good.

3. It looks as if things are utterly hopeless and there's no way out. Do you:

A. Make jokes about how you're all doomed and probably going to die, whilst getting ready to go down fighting.

B. Give one last rallying speech to unify the group to action, and let them know they're probably all going to die, but it's better to go down fighting.

5. How should important decisions be made out on the job?

A. There shouldn't be any set way to make decisions, cos every situation is unique so people should use different methods at different times.

B. The group leader should be the one to make them because that is why they are the leader.

C. The person who has the most experience regarding the situation should be the deciding factor, even if they are not the leader.

D. The people who are in disagreement over how to do something should fight it out and the winner gets to have it their way.

E.They should be put to a vote because everything should always be democratic because that will make everything perfect and everybody will be happy.

6. You really don't like one of the people in your grupe because they offend your sensibilities on professional or ethical grounds. Do you:

A. Work with them side by side and treat them like part of the grupe but still insult them and tell them what a git they are.

B. Put their glaring personal deficiencies aside while you're on the job except when they do stupid things that risk your grupe in which case you tell them what an idiot they are.

C. Put the fact they're a complete wanker aside while you're on the job, and just avoid bringing up the things that annoy you.

D. Mentally put them in the role of 'person who can be pushed into the line of fire if necessary' but do not let them know this.

E. Act like they are one of the grupe to their face and work with them, but complain about them and undermine them behind their back to the people in the grupe you do get on with.

7. You and your lover happen to work together on the same team. Do you:

A. Secretly think if things ever got really bad, you and your lover could strike out on your own and let the rest of the grupe fend for themselves.

B. Listen to your lover's advice more than the actual leader of the grupe, if they are not leader/always think your lover should be leader.

C. Talk baby talk to your lover and act all lovey-dovey in front of the other members of the grupe/get into quarrels with your lover and drag other members of the grupe into it.

D. Secretly plan to rally your lover's support to take over the grupe and/or bend them to your will.

E. Get distracted from doing your own job because you are worrying about your lover/ thinking about your lover naked/ Shagging your lover.

8. You are the grupe leader. Do you:

A. Think having a 'boss' is stupid and oppressive and so more or less trust everybody to make their own decisions about things/Think the grupe should be a democracy so put every decision to a vote.

B. Never ask for your subordinates opinions or listen to dissenting viewpoints because that would be showing weakness.

C. Think of the grupe as a family with you as the head of it, with each person knowing their position and you delegating jobs to them according to their skills and strengths, for their own good.

D. Think of the grupe as a bunch of unreliable and dangerously incompetent morons so you have got to more or less do everything yourself without ever delegating anything of consequence to them.

E. Can't be tied down to do things the same way every time because every situation is different- so in some cases, you give direct orders, in others you let people decide for themselves, in other cases you put it to a vote.

9. Somebody makes a glaring error in the field. Everything turns out all right, but it could have been a disaster. Do you:

A. Shout at them then and there, as soon as everybody is safe.

B. Resolve to remember the incident to shout at them later once everybody makes it through all right, and give them the cold shoulder for the rest of the adventure.

C. Ask the person who made the mistake in calm tones to explain themselves, and make them justify their actions in front of everybody before a grupe decision will be made about what to do.

D. Act as though everything is fine but discuss the situation behind their back with the other members of the party and come to a decision about what to do- including possible mutiny if the mistake was made by the leader.

E. Give everybody in the grupe a bollocking and tell them when the adventure is over everybody is going to have to go through loads of extra training.

10. If you are the one who made the glaring error in question 9 do you:

A. Acknowledge you bollocksed up but say that it's pointless to shout at you for it now and it should wait til you all get out alive and can have your follow up meeting.

B. Tell everybody else things they have done that were stupid.

C. Listen to everybody when they are shouting at you, and calmly explain your reasons for doing what you did, without acknowledging what you did was wrong.

D. Lose your temper at being criticised and set fire to a tree/wreck something/hit somebody.

E. Get overwhelmed by your own incompetence and lose faith in all your abilities, and start blubbing and have to be consoled and reassured.

10-17 pts: Personal freedom and individuality matter a lot to you. You are a bit of a selfish prick. You are an arsehole because you stubbornly hang on to your personal rights even if it isn't the most clever thing to do for the group. However, you are straightforward and you generally aren't actively trying to sabotage people.

17-24 pts: You are a suck up, or teacher's pet. You really like to be recognised and acknowledged by people in charge. You have a tendency to appoint yourself the one to tattle on and lecture other people. You do the right thing in most cases, but you want everybody to know you did it and praise you for it. You are an arsehole because you are a smarmy git. However, somebody has to take on the burden of being the moral authority of the group and you are it.

24-36 pts: You are pragmatic. Some people would call you calculating and stony hearted. You have the courage of your convictions, however that means that you get into arguments a lot and can refuse to compromise. You are an arsehole because you think you are always right and you like to bang on about 'logic' and 'pragmatism' but in the end you're just as likely to get into an argument to try and get your way as anybody.

36-42 pts: You are an unpredictable wanker. You like to have things your own way and are looking out for number one at all times- you. It is a bit unclear why you've joined a grupe in the first place. Are you a hostage waiting for your chance to kill everybody and escape or are you just waiting for an opportunity to kill everybody and steal all their loot at the first opportunity? At best you're just incredibly self centred and impulsive and not deliberately malicious. At worse you're a psycho who is going to wind up probably getting killed until you kill everybody else first. You are an arsehole because of all the reasons I just explained, and many more.

42-50 pts: You are self centred and you like to talk a lot about peoples' 'rights' but when it boils down to it you think people should do what you say because you know better than them. You think you are morally superiour to the other people in the grupe even if you don't actually ever do anything to indicate this. You also probably care more about animals and plants than people. You aren't actually evil or malicious, just bloody annoying. You are an arsehole because you think you know better/are better than everybody else despite having a lack of actual experience or skills and because you alternate between sanctimoniously lecturing people and having crisises of confidence and having to be reassured and built up by everybody else.

How To Get On In A Grupe

(Or: On Not Being An Arsehole)

Why write a pamphlet on how to get on in a grupe? Becos you lot need it. Over 2/3 of the people who join us in our adventuring are misanthropic loners who have nevver before had to work alongside another person or taken orders. Also some of you think that everything can be solved by voting on it. Which not only wastes a lot of time and causes a lot of the arguing out in the field which make the girls get all stroppy and bitchy, but in some cases like whether somebody should be killed and eaten or not, voting on the subject is bloody cowardly becos it means no one person wants to have to get their hands dirty. If you are going to kill somebody then kill them don't bloody subject them to Parliamentary procedure first.

The sort of grupe that we need to have on adventures is a Team. A Team is not a loose wibbly airy fairy collection of individuals. When you are in a Team what you want for your self is less important than what the Team wants as a whole. You have got to put your personal differences aside and pull together. You have got to keep your mind on the common goal. Usually that is getting loot or some other sort of treasure or collecting some deadly plant or weird insect or fighting in a war for somebody or rescuing somebody. What you think of each other on a personal level and whether or not you like the other people or agree with their opinions regarding politics, religion, other people's love lives, or whether the tea or the milk should go in first DOES NOT MATTER. You have got to pull together and get the job done and to do that you have to make sure the injured people get treated, nobody is given more work than they can handle, everybody has the tools they need to do the job, everybody knows their job and understands their orders and everybody has a chance to get proper food and rest.

This means that you have got to care about the welfare of every person on the Team, even people you do not personally get on with. It means that your lover or parent or kid is just as important as the person on the Team who you get on with the least. If you are only fixated on the welfare of your lover or brother or parent or kid then that is bollocks because you and they should go off and do your adventuring together without everybody else if that is all you care about. Because if you are on a Team it is more than just 'you' or 'you and your (insert here)'.

The weather is usually crap, we never have enough equipment or supplies and we always are getting hurt because of wankers trying to kill us. So, keeping up morale is a very important part of getting on in a grupe. Telling stories and joking about and things like roasting marshmallows are all good ways of keeping up morale. Threatening to kill people and bickering constantly over stupid things that have nothing to do with anything at hand and being a bitch for no reason are not good ways of keeping up morale.

Like it or not, a Team has got to have somebody in charge. That is the leader or Captain. The leader or Captain should be somebody who is tough, can give orders and people will actually take them, knows about fighting, knows about battle strategy and can build people up or give them a bollocking as needed. The Captain should tell everybody else what their job will be and make the majourity of the plans but should be able to listen to ideas from other people as well. They also will be the person who everybody blames when things go wrong so they should have a thick skin.

The Captain should appoint somebody to be the Lieutenant. The Lieutenant is the Captain's right hand man who will help advise him as to strategy and should also be tough and able to give orders. If the Captain is injured too badly to do his job or is killed or taken prisoner the Lieutenant will have to assume his job.

The Captain can also appoint people to other jobs such as Quartermaster, Diplomat, Scout, Translator and Medic. The Quartermaster is in charge of all weapons and supplies and makes sure that everybody's weapons are in good working order. The Quartermaster also takes charge of any weapons the grupe takes off enemies and decides who gets use of what.

A Diplomat is somebody who is good at influencing other people who usually also is good at speaking foreign languages and has got good manners and social skills who can try and negotiate with people if we think it is better not to try to kill them for some reason. Diplomats should seem trustworthy and be able to keep their cool in tense situations such as when things inevitably go awry. They also should be able to fight and if necessary to escape from being held hostage, or to negotiate with other people for the hostages we take from them.

A Scout is a person who goes ahead in dangerous territory to see if there are traps or how big the enemy's forces are. Sometimes Scouts can also be Diplomats and even infiltrate the enemies camp. That is a specialised sort of Scout called a Spy. We have never tried to do that on any of our adventures, but we often do have people scout ahead and report back to the group. A Scout has got to be stealthy, able to fight, have good observational powers and be able to relate what they see to the rest of the group in a sensible fashion. Also if they get caught they have to have guts so they won't talk in case they are tortured or something.

A Translator can also be a sort of Diplomat- they have to know a lot of languages and be able to translate books and conversations which they overhear or if they directly talk to the people we come across. A Translator is valuable because sometimes we could avoid a lot of bother and time being in a huge battle by having the Translator try to negotiate with them.

A Medic patches up people who are injured and remembers things like boiling water so you don't get aomoebas and treating poisons and things. A Medic should have control of the First Aid supplies and manuals and should be able to make people take medical treatment even if they don't want to. It also helps if they actually know what they are doing when it comes to putting in stitches and mending broken bones and burns and things. Every member of the grupe should know the very basics of first aid- what to do if somebody isn't breathing, what to do if somebody is choking, what to do if somebody won't stop bleeding, etc.

If the Leader gives you a direct order you should follow it. If you think you have some information the Leader does not have that would make them change their order you can tell them but if the Leader does not agree with you, do not throw a fit over it because that is not pulling together as part of the grupe. If the Leader does not give you a direct order it means that he is giving you permission to use your own judgment. If you are not sure what to do and need help you can ask the Leader what you should do or the Lieutenant if the Leader is too busy. The Leader and the Lieutenant should be people who realise that if they did not give their orders clearly or they made a bad decision, they are responsible for what happened and they should take it like a man and not try to weasel out of it by blaming everybody else for things going wrong.

This brings us to the topic of blaming people for things. Everybody has got to have the stones to take the consequences of what they do. If they make a bad decision and everybody gets captured it is no good yelling at how somebody made you distracted or how if everybody had taken _your_ suggestion things would be fine. You have got to instead work together to think how to get out of the situation of being utterly buggered. Nobody cares about all the excuses you have for why you screwed up and got them all attacked or taken hostage. Just bloody work together to figure out how to get out of the mess you are in.

Spike hunched his shoulders into his leather duster as he strode down the pavements. Passing the ubiquitous Cube, he made his way through the throngs of people on the streets. It was just past sundown and the streets were thronged with humanity intent on making their way home after a long day's work, or maybe getting in some holiday shopping.

The air rang with the symphony of cab engines, horns, music and a Salvation Army bell ringer across the street. Spike thrust his hands deep in his pockets against the chill wind that blew round the edge of the wedge-shaped building, and gave a slightly belligerent thrust of his chin to the wary look the doorman cast in his direction.

"At ease, mate, I'm here to meet friends. Val Varner, the penthouse."

Spike snorted softly with satisfaction when the doorman's demeanour changed slightly and he stepped aside, holding the door open. Spike quickly shouldered past the greatcoated wanker and set about making the lobby his personal territory.

He looked around, rocking slightly on his heels, withdrawing his packet of fags from his pocket and shaking one free.

"S' a no smoking building," the door man said in a cross voice, from his desk, phone lifted.

"Relax, Skipper, I'm not lighting up yet, am I? Go on, ring him up."

"And what name should I give... sir."

"Spike'll do."

Spike wandered across the lobby, hands in his pockets, and looked around appraisingly.

"Haven't done too much to spruce the place up since I was here last," he said conversationally.

From the exteriour, the Inferno Club appeared to be no different from any of the other clubs in St. James's Square- an immaculate facade, with doric columns, and brilliant green front door with a silver knocker, clenched in the maw of an elabourate dragon. On the door, a silver nameplate bore the inscription: Inferno Club.

Outside, a steady stream of carriages and cabs were pulling up, disgorging their sumptuously dressed inhabitants. Men and women in groups of two and four and six strolled to the front door, to be greeted by or give their names to the doorman, whereupon they were admitted in.

Inside, the three storey high front lobby was hung with black crepe and silver silk drapes. Two elabourately dressed footmen in green livery stood flanking a set of double doors at the far end of the lobby. The lobby itself was octagonally shaped, the silver drapes pulled aside to reveal two open doors. Beyond one, a bar was visible, and the sounds of much more enthusiastic merriment than the convivial buzz of talk and laughter that those with supernatural hearing might discern from beyond the double doors.

The other side door appeared to lead into a small ante-room. Two large wing back chairs were visible, and a fireplace with a fire burning cheerfully in the grate.

One footman was very tall, with an impressive set of rusty-red sideburns and piercing green eyes. The other was short and stocky, with coal-black hair and pale blue eyes, equally piercing. They greeted the guests they knew, and impassively waited to be told the names of those who were not club members, before admitting them.

WARNING this quiz contains lodes of pictures of naked blokes. I did NOT need to see all those togers. Look, rite there on the card there are two plonkers, one of which is made of rocks. And why is the Devil's stonker so wierd looking? Also, he looks like a right prat, doing that flappy little gesteur with his hands as he prances about- he's supposed to be the sodding DEVIL not a flipping fayrie. Also the Tarot card illustrations are creepy and bizare (in addition to the 'overload of naked blokes' factor.) Why not throw in some naked birds as well? I think they deserve to be represented.
