I feel like I've travelled back in time... Just got home from spending an incredible evening with the National Arts Centre Orchestra performing The Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring in concert, and my god I'm in love with the film and cast and crew and most especially Howard Shore all over again. Feels just like those heady days back in December 2001.

What a fabulous way to celebrate alchemie's birthday - especially considering it was the film and fandom (with a gentle nudge from gentlehobbit) who brought us together!

P.S. Already planning to play hooky the day The Hobbit opens. :)

I'm sorry to have been so absent lately. The last few months have gone by in a fog, and I think I managed to get only Christmas card out this year. There's no reason for it, but I've been in a terrible funk, hiding from the world, and just generally feeling rather unhappy - the result being that I've neglected the very people I should be spending more time with.

An embarrassingly late thank you to annwyn55, caoil, itstonedme, loreley_se, mews1945, trianne and yellow_oranges for the lovely Christmas cards and wishes, and for thinking of me. And thank you annwyn55for the Roald Dahl Matilda bookmark as well!

And an equally embarrassingly late thank you to arabia764, baranduin, claudia603, ink_gypsy, primula_baggins, rakshi and shirebound for the birthday wishes (I hope I'm not leaving anyone out!), and especially annwyn55 for the icon (<3) and trianne for the virtual card. :)

You brighten my days, and I really don't deserve any of you.

I can't imagine this community without ismenin. For me, thinking back on the heady joy of the early years of LOTR fandom, hers was a name you saw everywhere. I never had the pleasure of meeting her, but I know she was well-loved by everyone here for her writing, her courage, her enthusiasm and her close friendship with so many. I'm so sorry for her passing.

I am drunkenly typing this right now - with trianne standing beside me laughing.

The British connnection has arrived, and we have imbibed many a margarita beside alchemie's pool (we are on our third today), enjoying the sunshine, reliving the heyday of LOTR fandom and fanfiction and slash and all of you, Criminal Minds (OMG Trish I love that we are on the same wavelength and are rewatching season 4 together), and did I mention alcohol and sunshine? and really, this is just the best thing ever.

I think I may love Trish. I even forgive her for liking Grey's Antomy.

We have drunkenly pledged to attend Comic Con next year. Who's with us???????

I just shared an elevator with a real life version (sartorially speaking) of Spencer Reid.

Baggy faded purple cords, green tie, black and white checked shirt, white and navy blue sweater vest, mis-buttoned grey cardigan and jacket.

In other news, spent Saturday afternoon with my brothers, niece and nephew (both toddlers) at the Museum of Science of Technology. I may or may not have embarrassed myself during the takeoff sequence of a virtual simulation of a "dangerous mission to save a colony established on Mars" by grabbing my brother's arm and stifling a shriek. The old locomotives were the biggest hit for the kids, with the gravel on the train tracks getting the most return visits. :)

And then later that day I was peed and thrown up on by my grandson, and I am just besotted enough to have loved every moment.

I'm incredibly tired and cranky these days. My job is sucking away all my energy, and giving back very little in the way of accomplishment or self-esteem.

But then I think about what truly matters, like family and friends and a certain baby boy who's now 2 months old (where did the time go?????), and all is right (for a little while again) in my world.
