Creating A Better Future
through Education

Green Ninja is dedicated to developing a science curriculum that empowers students as champions of positive change, fostering higher engagement and performance both in the classroom and beyond.

About Us

Green Ninja Science has its roots in an NSF-funded research effort that led to a framework for teaching science based on learning science. In the years since we began, the scope of our curriculum has grown tremendously, but we remain committed to the same key components for student success:

  • Building on students’ personal connections

  • Nurturing their empathy for community and environment

  • Empowering them to make changes

Because when students engage with problems in the world around them, they learn better.

Green Ninja Curriculum Statistics

Measuring Green Ninja’s Success

Our curriculum encourages students to think critically, adopt scientific principles, and apply their knowledge to real-world situations.

Inside the Classroom
Data on Green Ninja’s academic effectiveness show:

  • District scores see better growth than 81% of control.

  • Greater numbers of gifted learners reach excellence.

  • The number of students who struggle is reduced.

Outside the Classroom
When surveyed former students were:

  • more knowledgeable about climate science

  • had more positive attitudes towards the environment

  • made personal choices that reduced carbon footprints

Creating Impact with Our Partners

Green Ninja started as a research program at SJSU. Our partnership continues through ongoing collaborative research and development.

The PocketLab environmental sensors in our kits help students analyze real-time data to study and improve the world around them.

Working with World Centric helps reduce the carbon footprint of our kits and the amount of waste generated in our school districts.

We hope that as our community of teacher colleagues continues to grow, so does our shared belief that education can be relevant, purposeful, and transformative for all of our students in ways that benefit society.

Meet Our Founder

Eugene Cordero is a scientist with a deep love for data and numbers, a Ph.D. in atmospheric science, and a background at NASA. After a decade of working in technical research, he transitioned to focus on optimistic solutions to environmental challenges. As a professor at San José State University, he led a research team funded by NASA and the NSF, aiming to reveal how education could motivate students to address local environmental issues.

After years of rigorous research, the data became unequivocal: providing students with real-world problems and the opportunity to make a difference yielded significant improvements in both student engagement and academic achievement. Realizing the transformative potential of these findings, Eugene took the next step to bring this research into classrooms. This was the beginning of Green Ninja—a curriculum aimed at enriching science education while nurturing future community leaders.

Our Team

We are committed to providing high-quality science education that will create meaningful and lasting change in students while supporting the needs of teachers. As our team continues to grow, we’d like to highlight the original designers of our program.

Meet More Friendly Faces

From creating beautiful visuals to coding a new feature on our website, our team brings a wide variety of skills and expertise to ensure we provide the best support for teachers and students.

Sustainability and Company Norms

Zero waste for teachers

We don’t believe in letting things go unused—we’ll work with your district to only supply the materials you need to teach each year.

Net-zero Headquarters

Our main office is powered by renewable energy, and you may find a chicken or two!

Printed Materials

Our printed books are made in the USA with FSC certified paper and 70% biorenewable ink.

Healthy Office Culture

We encourage sustainable practices at work such as healthy snacks, no trash bins, and walking breaks.

Kits and Packaging

We ship our kits with recycled and/or compostable packaging.

Transportation and Travel

When we need to travel, we’ll find ways to lower our carbon footprint such as taking the train, carpooling, or carbon offsetting air travel.

Explore Our Program

Our curriculum provides teachers with a core science program that engages students with a hands-on, interdisciplinary approach and empowers them to build real-world connections.
