Believer
The Mormon faith is a religion steeped in tradition. Dan Reynolds, frontman of Imagine Dragons, began a brave campaign to help address the high suicide rate among young LGBT people in Utah, where Mormonism is prevalent. A member of the Mormon faith himself, Dan knew that he was risking everything, including his family, friends, afterlife, and even his sense of identity, by attempting to challenge the traditional teachings of the Church, particularly the belief that cohabitation before marriage and marriage exclusively between a man and a woman are against God.
Determination and faith, supported by the solid foundation of his own young family, gave him the strength to face this uphill battle. His upbringing in Mormonism taught him from an early age to love, making it fitting that he chose Utah—where his Mormon roots were established—as the home of LOVELOUD. His open communication with members of the Church appeared promising in its potential to challenge long-standing doctrines. Would it be enough? Believer is a documentary that follows this very journey.
