DEFINITION OF A WORKED ALL BRITAIN SQUARE: The W.A.B. Square is the 10Km small square and the Country, e.g. “SP87 England”, “NN90 Scotland” etc. (see Definitions page)

STATEMENT REGARDING ACCEPTANCE OF REMOTE OPERATION
The committee, following due thought and discussion, have decided to allow remote operation of a HOME station under the following clear and specific criteria:-

  1. The Station being operated remotely is under sole ownership and control by the operator, i.e. not a club or other station that might provide advantage or benefit in performance, for example during a contest.
  2. The Station being operated is the operator's HOME station at their normal home address as listed by / in the Call Book, QRZ or similar openly accessible listing.
  3. The call used, and the square given, shall reflect the normal home location as in point 2 above.
  4. If there is any doubt, particularly whilst under Net Control, the Net Controller must be satisfied with the information provided or may, if in any doubt, advise participants not to log the QSO as valid for the purposes of W.A.B. and any subsequent award claims.
  5. When there is a Net Controller, their word shall be final, any objections to be taken up with the committee in writing, not directed at the Controller at the time. Controllers already have more than enough to deal with, particularly during a busy Net.
  6. If there is no Net Control, the stations working the remote station may make their own judgment on whether they believe the QSO to be valid, and log accordingly.

It should be stressed that W.A.B. is, as always, based very much on trust

2026 W.A.B. A.G.M. NEWS
The Annual General Meeting of the Worked All Britain Awards Group was held at the Junction 28 Rally, on Sunday 14th June 2026.
David Dolling G0FVH takes over as President from Kevin Hale G0AKH, and we are pleased to welcome Kerie Gibson 2E0LHF and Kevin Hale 2E0KJD to the committee as co-opted members. See pictures on the AGM 2026 page

6 MONTH TRIG POINT AWARD
We are running a 6 month Trig Point award again this year, but from May to October. See the Trig Point Trek 2026 Award page for more details.

DONATIONS
W.A.B. are pleased to announce that we are able to make a further £3000 of donations this year as follows:

  • £500 to R.A.I.B.C.
  • £500 to a charity of our Auditor's choice (The Leicestershire and Rutland Wildlife Trust)
  • £500 to Air Ambulance U.K. Charity
  • £500 to Marie Curie Cancer Care
  • £500 to Royal National Lifeboat Association
  • £500 to Support Dogs U.K. (additional donation made June 2026)

NET OBSERVATIONS
The committee has received comments concerning the 40m net.
Firstly, one occasional participant was heard saying that because callsign discipline is sometimes poor on the net, they are nervous to call in. This is both in the form of stations only giving partial callsigns, which is only recognisable to regulars, or replacing them with personal names. You can imagine the confusion when all the Daves are on one net!
Secondly, and this should not need to be said, please wait to check in at the end of a rundown, when asked by the net controller. This is frustrating for those who have the patience to wait, when others are jumping in ahead of them.
Thirdly, and this is more of a request. Please could mobiles consider using the Regional Secondary Locator. Not using it can make establishing the correct W.A.B. Square challenging around the country borders. On the RSL topic, whilst the licence now says they are not mandatory, it does not say you can use one that it not relevant to the country you are in, e.g. using GW in England.
To close is a plea from the Awards Manager. It doesn't happen much in the world of W.A.B., but he rues the declining use of the suffixes /M and /P. One awards scheme appears to use them very little, if at all these days. Past Awards Managers would have an apoplexy if they could see the claims these days with G stations in The Shetlands and fixed stations in portable only squares! It is appreciated that this mess is not of our making, but there was at least some common sense behind the old rules whereby the callsign on its own would tell you the country the station was in and give you some clue as to the conditions it was operating under!
If we could please bear the above in mind, it would make the nets more welcoming to the newcomer and help make them run a little more smoothly.

NEW 2026 AWARD
New award just for 2026 announced, which will entail working a mix of Squares and Members each month - see the Squares and Members Award 2026 page.

TRIG POINT ACTIVATION ZONE FURTHER INCREASED
With effect from 1st December 2025, W.A.B. is increasing the radius of a trig point activation zone to 250m, as measured horizontally on an OS map. Along with this is the following rider: If the Trig Pillar is not visible from the chosen activation position, the activator is expected to take all reasonable steps to ensure it's physical existence and correct position prior to carrying out the activation.
There are a few reasons. Firstly, more trig points could be activated from a mobile operating situation and hopefully encourage greater participation in the award by less able-bodied members.
Secondly, this will hopefully bring into the scheme more trig points that are on private property or currently inaccessible for other reasons.
Also, it is noted that on summits with a large activation zone that are popular with the public, operators tend to move some distance from the trig points to avoid the other visitors that are drawn by the trig point. This should give operators more flexibility in moving away from other persons while remaining in the activation zone.

CONSTITUTIONAL CHANGES AGREED
Constitutional changes to allow for the cessation of the Newsletter as an official form of communication, removal of the roles of Newsletter Editor and Rallies Manager, and the addition of the role of QSL Manager were voted on and agreed at the 2025 Annual General Meeting (A.G.M.)
See the Constitution page.

W.A.B. NEWSLETTER DISCONTINUED
At a recent W.A.B. Committee Meeting, it was reluctantly decided that the W.A.B. Newsletter will cease to be produced due to the amount of time required to produce it for a relatively small number of subscribers. Any important news to be disseminated will be circulated on the website, official Facebook page, official WAB Groups.io group and the weekly book number update emails sent out by Dave G0FVH.

Contest Rule change voted in at 2024 W.A.B. A.G.M.
After a suggestion from Steve Richards G4HPE regarding points scoring for W.A.B. Contests, the following proposal was voted on and passed:
That if a WAB square is not received at the time of the contact but the contact is otherwise complete, it will count for 5 points but the multiplier is set to zero.
The date for this change is 10 June 2024.

UPDATED CLUB CALLSIGN TEMPLATE
Updated Excel template (16 Feb 2024) for use of W.A.B. Club Callsigns (if you are unable to supply in ADIF format) - see the WAB Club Callsigns page

REMINDER FROM W.A.B. QSL MANAGER
Whilst QSL cards are not required for any W.A.B. awards, the QSL manager issues a reminder (for UK stations) that if you do have envelopes lodged with your QSL Bureau sub-manager, they must have the new barcoded Royal Mail stamps on them. Please check with your sub-manager if you are not sure.

G3ABG PHOTOGRAPHS
We have recently been sent some images of Worked All Britain founder John Morris G3ABG by kind permission of Ken Johansson SM4EMO. See the G3ABG Photo Archive page

G3ABG CALLSIGN REISSUED TO WORKED ALL BRITAIN
The callsign of Worked All Britain founder John Morris G3ABG has been reissued to W.A.B. by kind permission of John's sons Brian G3VBG and Geoffrey. W.A.B. club callsigns can be booked for use by full UK licence holders who are members of W.A.B.

W.A.B. ENCOURAGE YOU TO GO GREEN
At the recent W.A.B. committee meeting, the subject of trying to be more environmentally friendly was discussed. We encourage you to think about this yourselves, and one way of helping is to consider receiving your award claims in PDF format, rather than as a printed certificate. Doing so has a double impact - it helps save resources, and possibly better still - it saves you money!

COMMITTEE MEMBERS NEEDED
We are looking for volunteers to join the committee and help run W.A.B. You don't have to be licensed - SWLs would be most welcome. New ideas are always required. If you would like to find out more, please contact the Secretary. See the Committee page for contact details

W.A.B. Q.S.L. CARD DISCOUNT
W.A.B. Q.S.L. card stocks are being sold off at half price. See the Price List for details (sorry - due to high postal charges, this offer is U.K. only).

DATA MODES REQUIREMENTS
It has been decided that award entries for Data Modes will have the same requirements as VHF/UHF entries.

SPURN HEAD
A query has been raised about the status of Spurn Head as an island, as due to erosion, it is surrounded at high tide by the sea. The W.A.B. definition of an island states that it must be named, or be part of a named group, on a 1:50,000 Ordnance Survey map (see W.A.B. Definitions). As this is not the case yet, it is not currently being accepted as an Island. This will be kept under review when new editions of the 1:50,000 O.S. map involved is available.

'W.A.B. REPORTER' LIVE SPOTTING FACILITY
This is a quick way to report current W.A.B. activity without the need to sign up to any social media. It is written by Steve Richards G4HPE and hosted by Google but you do not need a Google account nor any passwords. It's ready to use the moment you go to https://tinyurl.com/wabreporter3. Anything entered on this page will be instantly seen by everyone connected to it. It is recommended that you download the WAB REPORTER QUICK GUIDE which can be found in the file section of the WAB IO Groups resource.

VHF ACTIVITY PERIODS
National VHF SSB Activity Periods will run on Mondays 2000-2200, Wednesdays 1000-1200 and Fridays 2000-2200 (all clock time). These are activity periods, not contests, with the idea of promoting friendly contacts and having a chat, rather than the frenetic contest formats. They will provide an ideal opportunity to work W.A.B. squares, spread the word about W.A.B., and maybe assist stations to work out their square if they don't know it.

GIVING TALKS ON W.A.B. TO CLUBS AND SOCIETIES
Talks on Worked All Britain do not have to be given by W.A.B. Committee Members. If you would be prepared to give a talk to your radio club (or a nearby one), we can provide a Powerpoint presentation plus supporting leaflets etc. Please contact the Secretary (see the Committee page) for more details.

WORKED ALL BRITAIN CLOTHING
Our previous supplier of Polo shirts, Sweatshirts is no longer trading, so we have sourced an alternative supplier. T-shirts, Polo shirts, Sweatshirts & Hoodies are available direct from the supplier Salix Embroidery & Graphics. See the Merchandising page for more details & pictures.

AWARD & BOOK PRICING
Award Pricing: We apologise for the high costs of Awards for stations outside the UK, but our postal service has decided to classify a single certificate as a parcel! However a pdf version is available to anyone for only £1 or €2/$2. You may then print the certificate yourself. Payment for this method can only be accepted in Sterling coin or via PayPal. Non-UK coins cannot be accepted.
For the printed certificate we accept Sterling, Euro or US Dollar currency or a sterling cheque drawn on a UK bank.
Book/USB Key Pricing: We have managed to absorb the last 4 postal increases, but we may have to increase the cost of the W.A.B. Book/USB Key package at the next postage price rise

CLAIMING AWARDS FROM YOUR ARMCHAIR!
A PayPal "donate" button has been added to each page of the web site. This was not the original intention of it, but it's very suitable to use in claiming awards without leaving home.
Firstly - email your claim to the Awards Manager (see Committee page), secondly - hit the "Donate" button and submit the amount relevant to your claim.
