oscars 2015 reaction post + fashion faves

So the show was long. okay. whatever. please get someone else to host next time. NPH started off great and then it just got boring and awkward. I did love the Birdman/Whiplash bit with him and Miles Teller though hee hee.
anyway here we go:

THE GOOD:

- Eddie Redmayne is now an oscar winner! I was in tears! He was my favorite to win and they gave it to him! The most well deserved win of the night! <3
- BIG HERO 6 PREVAILED! one of my absolute best moments! let's face it HTTYD 2 was just never good enough and I'm so thrilled it lost!
- 3/5 for Whiplash!
- The Miles Teller/NPH Birdman/Whiplash sketch. funny!
- Rosamund Pike! Rosamund Pike in red! Rosamund Pike and Ben Affleck sitting together looking like Nick and Amy! bahahaha
- 4 nice neat wins for Grand Budapest.
- Birdman winning editing
- Atleast 'The Imitation Game' got something.
- Desplat finally winning even if it isn't for his best work. Would've also made more sense if he had won for 'The Imitation Game' here.
- Interstellar winning VFX *whew*
- Feast winning short animated film :)
- Common's and John Legend's speech.

THE BAD

- A small part of me was still hoping for wins for Ed Norton and Emma Stone
- 'Whiplash' losing screenplay
- Grand Budapest losing screenplay
- Hobbit losing the one oscar it was nominated for
- Interstellar losing best original score
- Wouldn't a Rosamund upset been wonderful though? Sorry I'm still bitter about all the Gone Girl snubs.
- Poor Linklater. He deserved either director or picture for 'Boyhood'. I still think 'Birdman' is the better film but I felt sorry for the cast and crew of 'Boyhood'.

THE UGLY:

- so they could go on and on about 'American Sniper' and how it's such an important story and how it made money but no random comments about 'Selma'? Isn't 'Selma' still relevant too? ugh
- Sean Penn making an ass of himself even if it was just a joke. ugh no.

Eva Green and Richard Armitage!!!!!!!!!!

Eva! Not surprising (but she won by just one lucky vote ;) She was one of the oldest contenders on this list at 34 but she managed to beat out the rest. First noticed her in 'Casino Royale'. Still my favorite Bond girl. This lady can act! Too bad 'Camelot' got cancelled but sadly she was the only good thing about that show. She's amazing in 'Penny Dreadful' so far. I'm still hoping her movie career picks up though. Get a better agent Eva!

Richard! If you're from the period drama fangirl club then you HAVE TO know who Richard Armitage is ;) He stole my heart as John Thornton in 'North and South' and thanks to his performance I rank John Thornton above Mr Darcy lol. He made the character of Thorin in 'The Hobbit' his own and now he'll be in the nbc Hannibal series! I'm so excited! <3

Deepika is a bollywood film actress. She has really come into her own these past few years. Her performance in the colourful epic 'Ram Leela' really took me by surprise. She's so so pretty <3 Also kudos to her for coming and speaking out about her struggle with relationship failures and depression. In a country where topics of mental health are considered taboo it makes a huge difference when someone high profile can do their bit to raise awareness.

Lee Pace! Ah okay I'm one of those few people who never watched 'Pushing Daisies' but his majestic performance as Thranduil in 'The Hobbit' made me sit up and take notice ;) he's so gorgeous and THAT VOICE!

Lupita captivated everyone with her heartbreaking performance in '12 years a slave' but it wasn't just her talent but also her real life beauty and personality that won everyone over! She's such an inspiration and a model of grace and class. Hope she goes far in her career!
Who doesn't know Henry Cavill? Like seriously the man has the perfect bone structure. I still remember him as a kid in 'The Count of Monte Cristo' but fell in love with him as Charles Brandon in 'The Tudors'.

Shruti is an upcoming bollywood star. She is the daughter of famous (and infamous) South Indian actor Kamal Hassan. I haven't seen her debut film yet but she definitely takes after her gorgeous mother Sarika in the beauty department. Hrithik is also a bollywood star. His father is acclaimed director Rakesh Roshan. Hrithik is not only total hunk but also a very talented actor. I highly recommend all of you who love period dramas give his film 'Jodhaa-Akbar' a go. It is the love story between mughal emperor Akbar and his hindu queen Jodhaa.

First of all let me say a big thank you to sanya4 , grendel_mother , elysium_22 , setentpet for the lovely birthday messages and also florencia_7 for the adorable cupcake v-gift!
Thank you so much for your lovely wishes ladies! I had a good birthday. Lots of cake and with some of my favorite friends and family members :)

I had a chance to watch one my most anticipated films of 2014 'Gone Girl' based on the book by Gillian Flynn and starring Rosamund Pike and Ben Affleck. Here's my review and let me know if you read the book , saw the movie or anything related :)

Okay so I finally watched 'Gone Girl'. The movie still officially hasn’t come out here where I live but I’ve waited so long for this adaptation that I decided to give the torrent a try. The quality wasn’t horrible but yep I’m hoping for a comfortable second viewing in the cinema at the end of the month ;)

Anyway I was intrigued by the story when the first trailer came out and since I couldn’t wait to find out the ending I decided to read the book. The book was a fantastic read! Very interesting , terrifying, lots of twists and turns and completely entertaining. This obviously led to me to have super high expectations from the film and Fincher. Were they met? Yes I think the movie did a pretty fine job of bringing the book to life. It’s a great film but a good adaptation. The book will remain my favorite but I must congratulate Fincher and the cast for meeting most of my expectations.

From a technical stand-point the film is fantastic. Lots of gorgeous cinematography. I loved the overall bleakness and atmosphere they managed to create. The music was alright. It was good in some places and not so good in others. The ‘missing’ piece is definitely a stand-out though. I’m a little divided on the script. Now since it’s written by the author I can’t really complain. Most of the major elements were covered but what do you think it would’ve been like if it had been scripted by a professional screenwriter? Would it have been better or worse?

The cast was great and amazing Rosamund as amazing Amy was definitely the highlight of the film! Ben Affleck wasn’t great but he did fit the character. I still feel like NPH as Desi was miscast but I can live with that. The actress who played Margo was fantastic! She really made the character feel real. The rest of the supporting cast was good too.

I’m probably nit-picking but if you haven’t read the book you might enjoy this film alot more because it is a very well made one. So go and see it if you’re interested in a good and solid psychological thriller :) I would still recommend trying the book because it has all of these great monologues and really adds to the characters of Nick and Amy. It makes them even more interesting and helps understand their motives at different points in the story much better.

More thoughts ahead but those contain spoilers:

MOVIE/BOOK SPOILERS AHEAD

The Nick/Amy in the beginning felt a bit rushed and I wish they had thrown in just a few more moments showing the breakdown of their marriage. Ben/Rosamund didn’t have much chemistry onscreen but I guess it worked because we aren’t really supposed to like them anyway.

Ah so let’s talk about Rosamund! From the moment I saw her in the trailer I couldn’t imagine anyone else as Amy Dunne. She was so fresh. I’m glad they went with her for this instead of a predictable Reese Witherspoon or Nicole Kidman. Her age didn’t make a difference. As stunning as her performance was she was still a little rough around the edges maybe? I don’t know if it was the screenplay or the acting to be sure. Should she have been more of a ‘sweeter’ Amy in the first half? Was the film concentrating too much on pyscho Amy that they kind of ignored ‘sweet’ Amy? I’m a little divided on this. On the one hand more sweetness would’ve made it more believable BUT she was playing the ‘cool girl’ and she was perfect in that area. Her sophistication, charm and poise really come through in just those few scenes she has to convince us she’s ‘Amazing Amy’. Yes we could have had a Cate Blanchett come in and be perfect in every scene but I really loved how different a semi-unknown and underrated Rosamund Pike made this film feel so refreshing. She was brilliant as pyscho Amy! I cannot imagine anyone else! Cold , calculating but calm and terrifying! She was just perfect! One of my personal favorite moments is where we see her with the short bob cut . When reading the book for some reason I pictured Amy with a short haircut and when she showed up like that I had to gasp because the Amy from my copy of the book was really brought to life in those moments. *squee* Amy is definitely one of my favorite female characters/villains and I’m grateful Rosamund did her justice. As great as she was I’m not sure about her oscar chances but I do hope she gets nominated atleast because she is easily the best thing about it.

Ben Affleck was alright. I’m not a huge fan of him as an actor per say and I didn’t really care much for him in this either but I must say he fit the character very well. You really get that douchey-distant Nick Dunne vibe from him and watching his breakdown was alot of fun. I remember reading people wanted Bradley Cooper which I think would have also been a fine choice for the role but Ben is able to come across as so so unlikeable he made it work.

I’m still not so thrilled about NPH as Desi. Overall Desi just wasn’t given enough to do in the film and NPH wasn’t convincing. Wish he had been creepier maybe? But anyway as I said, I can live with this.

Margo was one of my favorites! The actress was terrific! She really made the character human. I liked her alot. The rest of the supporting cast was good too especially Tyler Perry as the lawyer.

I think my favorite scene was the one where we find out Amy is still alive. I thought the very important ‘cool girl’ speech got a bit lost in the montage but I’m glad they didn’t cut it atleast!

Nick’s tv interview was another good scene.

The violent scene between Desi and Amy was terrifying omg. Reading it was one thing but they way the depicted it in the film was like whoa! 0__0

And last but not the least. The most important thing about this entire film was the ending! There were rumors that they were going to change it BUT THEY DIDN’T! BLESS! They kept it in. The tv interview and that final shot of Amy’s face were chilling! Still would recommend picking up the book for a better understanding of the characters and for the details that

were left unexplained. Details about how Amy got pregnant in the end, why she came back to Nick , why did Nick take her back etc are made more clear in the book. The film makes it seem very one dimensional in the end especially Nick’s side of the story. Yes he loathes Amy in the end but the disturbing fact is that he chooses to stay not just because of the baby but because subconsciously she has complete control over him now. He’s a broken man. He’s been brainwashed. He’s terrified but he is also strangely comfortable with the arrangement. This psychology of the entire situation in the end is what leaves one uncomfortable even after the story has ended.

So bottom-line is I’m very satisfied with the film. Definitely worth the wait! I had faith in Fincher. He can never go terribly wrong and he didn’t! I hope this movie gets lots of hype during awards season. Also I can’t wait for a proper second viewing. Looking forward to that!

and so 'True Blood' has come to an end

And so another one of my shows comes to an end. 'True Blood' , a show with such an interesting premise - vampires in the modern world! I remember when I was absolutely fascinated by the concept when I started the show. The first two seasons were gold. Great characters , good writing and interesting plotlines. Too bad things started to go downhill after that and ended on a very unsatisfactory note. I've put down some of my thoughts on the finale here if you'd like to read/discuss.

For what it's worth this show introduced me to the gorgeous Alexander Skarsgard and his unforgettable performance as Viking Vampire God Eric Northman. I'm going to miss him the most <3

Wow it feels like forever since I updated! I hope everyone's new year has gotten off to a good start. Mine has been pretty decent so far. Thought I'd post a nice meme because I don't like seeing my journal so empty. Despite 2013 not being not a great year for me personally , it's been a good one for fandom :) Let me know what you enjoyed this year and curious to know your favorite films of the 2013 too!

Which TV shows did you start watching in 2013?
My Mad Fat Diary , Hannibal , Arrested Development and Vikings

Which TV shows did you let go of in 2013?
None. As I said I can't really let go of a show. Never have so far.

Which TV shows did you mean to get into but didn't in 2013? Why?
That would be 'My Mad Fat Diary'. I didn't care about the promos or anything but then tumblr managed to convince me to give it a go ;)

Which TV shows do you intend on checking out in 2014?
AHHHHH I still need to watch 'Breaking Bad'! I've had it on my 'to-watch' list since last year *fail*

Which TV show impressed you least in 2013?
I think 'True Blood' pops up on this list every year lol. I'm glad they're finally ending it this year. 'Merlin' was a bit of a letdown. Those last few eps felt very rushed.

Which TV show do you think you might let go of in 2014 unless things significantly improve?
All the shows I'm watching and have started seem pretty quality so far so none for now. I just hope more actors don't leave 'Downton Abbey'

Which TV shows do you think you’ll never let go of no matter how crappy they get? Why?
'Game of Thrones'. I love the books and characters too much. I'm a huge show apologist I suppose lol.

1. Your main fandom of the year?
'Game of Thrones' is always the main one but the 'Hannibal' fandom has been absolutely fantastic this year.

2. Your favourite film watched this year?
Favorite movie of 2013 - Tie between 'Gravity' and 'Stoker'. I also have a soft corner for 'Pacific Rim' <3

3. Your favourite book read this year?
'Deathless' by Catherynne M. Valente. I also liked the play 'Cat on a Hot Tin Roof'.

4. Your favourite album or song to listen to this year?
I'll go with 'AM' by Arctic Monkeys. I became obsessed with the band and their music towards the end of the year. 'Humbug' is the album I listened to the most though.
Favorite song is a tie between '505' by Arctic Monkeys and 'Origins' by Tennis.

5. Your favourite TV show of the year?
Game of Thrones s3 was amazing! But I think I'll go with 'Hannibal'. The show is so so so quality in every department from the writing to the acting. Also I adore Mads Mikkelsen <3

6. Your favourite online fandom community of the year?
I'll go with 'Hannibal' again.

7. Your best new fandom discovery of the year?
Hannibal and Vikings are both new shows I started watching but a show that I accidently 'discovered' and really enjoyed was 'Arrested Development'.

8. Your biggest fandom disappointment of the year?
The 'True Blood' fandom can get pretty petty with all the Bill vs Eric rants and ship wars. A part of the 'Game of Thrones' fandom was a bit too negative which can sometimes be annoying as well.

9. Your TV boyfriend of the year?
Ah I may sound creepy but I fell in love with the adorable Finn from 'My Mad Fat Diary'

10. Your TV girlfriend of the year?
Mary Crawley is always my favorite by default but um this time I'll go with Lagertha from 'Vikings'. She's really awesome.

11. Your biggest squee moment of the year?
wow I really can't pick one atm.

12. The most missed of your old fandoms?
Merlin! I miss the show like crazy! Sometimes I still want to cry when I think about it.

13. The fandom you haven’t tried yet, but want to?
Breaking Bad!

14. Your biggest fan anticipations for the New Year?
Well we'er already in the new year and my biggest fan anticipation is always Game of Thrones ;)
