Roles

Writer

Writer for the VGMM team

Indie games passionately made by small teams or even solo developers are published every day. Most them them receive less coverage than they deserve. Our goal is help provide them with that coverage.

We’re a small, passionate team of writers, developers, video editors, and game lovers dedicated to covering indie and AA games. We’ve built relationships with developers and publishers who trust us to publish our opinions and tell their stories. We put quality over quantity and are actively growing.

We’re looking for writers who want to be part of that.

What You’ll Get

  • Byline and writer portfolio of your published work.
  • Free indie games that often include early access.
  • Creative freedom to cover games and topics you want.
  • A team that will give you editorial feedback to improve your writing.
  • The experience of building a publication site.

What We Want From You

  • A passion for indie games.
  • Strong and engaging writing skills. Experience is preferred but not required.
  • The ability to commit to writing at least one article per month.
  • Open to editorial feedback.
  • Interested in the gaming journalism.

How It Works

  • This is a volunteer position. We’re not generating revenue yet and don’t plan to in the near future.
  • Communication is on our Discord server. There’s no rigid schedule, but we do ask for one article written monthly as a minimum.
  • We have a backlog of games and topics that need coverage. We are contacted daily by publishers and developers with game keys and press kits for upcoming titles. Additionally, there’s always something new to cover in the indie gaming scene. Choose one of those games or topics to write about or pitch us an idea. In general, if the idea fits our site you can go for it.
  • Your writing will go through an editorial team (literally just one guy) that will correct any grammar mistakes and potentially offer changes to strengthen the text. Ultimately, as long as your writing is grammatically and factually correct, it’s your choice to publish it.
  • You are free to publish under a username or your real name, but we will ask for your real name before you join us.

If you’re building toward a career in games journalism, looking for a creative outlet, or just want to help indie games find an audience, we’d love to hear from you.
