Phantasy Star Series - where are the cutscenes???

I'm a bit dismayed with how the Phantasy Star series has been treated since the Genesis days. Back in the day, I had a higher regard for that rpg series than the Final Fantasy's. Sure the FFs outdid it on graphics, sound, and a bunch of other stuff...at least the PS series had a continuing storyline. It brought in a scifi element to rpg's that I haven't seen as well in recent days.

Now PSO, I loved that game. I think it managed to expand the series, using a little bit of a loophole from the ending of PS3 to go outside the typical setting. True, it wasn't quite an rpg game anymore but it was addictive. It put down a foundation for online console games and set the stage for many more.

But what's this? They now seem set on imprisoning themselves in a box of their own choosing (wtf is up with a card game in this series???). What's wrong with this picture? Where is all the grand steps/transformations that the FF went through on its way to becoming an online game? Where are the fantastic cg cut-scenes in between a more typical rpg gameplay? Why is the PS series lacking such titles that incorporate such huge leaps in the rpg experience? Do they think they're gaining something out of skipping all those titles we got between FF6 and FF11?

*shakes head*
This game series, it has so much to offer. I think they're selling themselves and us short if they don't try a bit of that. People will flock to such an established series if they put the effort into it that it deserves.
