A New Vision for Mario and Friends
So it would seem to me is that the only success Nintendo enjoys these days involves remakes of remade games involving Mario and pals in various situations. I was just playing Mario Kart 64 and Mario Tennis 64 the other day and I just started to think about how they were just the same premise over and over and over again - yeah, not original thought but that goes with the subject matter. What kind of development costs are there to something like this? All you need to do is come up with some new cute cut-scenes, that's it - everything else is just pasting the character models. Even the new soccer game isn't exactly new - it's a new attempt but nothing really different.
Now what would really be different - a serious Mario FPS. And I know what you're thinking; "Cartoon characters in an FPS shooter? You're gonna get another shit game like Conker!" (and I'm talking about the multi-player shooting portion of the game, the original storyline game (N64 version!) was beyond awesome).
No, they need to make it more like Perfect Dark with Mario - hey, they do it with sports games, they certainly can make it with something a little more... dangerous.
In all cases with these games they always have a cute little intro, I can so see what this one would include:
* A Gangster Bowser (wearing a vintage pin-striped outfit) spraying the area with a tommy-gun.
* Toad wearing a sombrero, wearing a criscrossed bondoleer of bullets. Six-shooter pistol in each hand, smoking a cigar?
* Luigi, clad in full Swat gear, scans around and then pulls a shotgun off his back and cocks it one handed (think Schwarzenegger like).
* A bandaged Yoshi dragging himself away across the floor and then he looks towarda gun being pointed at him. Cuts to an armed Wario smiling and about to shoot him - Yoshi sticks out his tongue and pulls a holstered pistol from Wario's belt. An astonished fat man stares as Yoshi fires back at him.
* Black leathered Birdo falling from a building, armed with two uzi's firing in slow motion upwards.
* Barely clad Daisy and Toadstool having a martial arts knife fight.
* And finally, Mario walking by - a red dot from a laser sight lighting up on his head. He turns his head, the classic Mario "uh oh", screen darkens and then you hear a gun shot.
Oh... and they need to bring back some more old-school characters from Mario like Wart and the Koopa Kids - as well as maybe uh coming up with some new ones?
So any thoughts or feelings about this? Any contributions to this idea?
