2010 in review

Haven't done this "year in review" meme in a few years, I don't think, but I feel like doing it this year. Ganked from brouhaha and lj-cut for your pleasure.

1. What did you do in 2010 that you'd never done before?
Returned to actively writing in a fandom that I had been active in fifteen years ago. I've written fics in old fandoms before, but never actively returned to one like this. Usually when I finish with a fandom, that's it.

2. Did you keep your New Year's resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
Yes. I didn't make any extreme resolutions, but I did keep the ones I made and I intend to make new ones in 2011.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Many of my cousins had their second or third children, but I'm not close to any of them. My sister's adoption of a brother-sister sibling set was approved, which I consider to be "giving birth" the way this means, so yes. My brother's wife's daughter also gave birth on the 18th. I'm not close to her at all, but I suspect that's the baby I'll be seeing the most of all these.

4. Did anyone close to you die?
My friend's step-father did in November. I hadn't seen him in over a decade, but I knew him well when I was a kid, and it really affected my friend, which affected me. They had the funeral locally, so I attended. It was sad to see him go, but in a strange way, nice to see my old friend again.

5. What countries did you visit?
Just America.

6. What would you like to have in 2011 that you lacked in 2010?
A steady income.

7. What dates from 2010 will remain etched upon your memory and why?
I don't remember dates in this way.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Starting an excercise regime and really sticking to it and seeing good results come of it. Editing my novel completely through.

9. What was your biggest failure?
Not being employed. Again.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
A few minor scraps and bruises, but nothing serious fortunately.

11. What was the best thing you bought?
My MMPR Blue Power Ranger costume. :D

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
Everyone who voted to repeal things like Prop 8 and DADT.

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
The Christian right wing fundies denying so many people so many things for stupid, selfish, unChristian reasons.

14. Where did most of your money go?
Credit card debt. Mostly in gas money, I suspect. Especially now that I live so far from everything.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
My Power Ranger costume. Lame, I know.

16. What songs will always remind you of 2010?
Peter White's "Bright" even though it came out in 2009.

17. Compared to this time last year, are you...
i) happier or sadder? Much happier.
ii) thinner or fatter? Thinner and fitter.
iii) richer or poorer? Poorer, technically, but I feel richer.

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Eating right. Reading. Writing.

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Being lazy and eating crap.

20. How will you be spending Christmas?
I spent Christmas at home with my family, but I did go to a great little Christmas Eve Eve party on the 23rd.

Yes, but not with any person, just with life itself.

23. How many one night stands?
None.

24. What were your favorite TV programs?
Glee, I guess, though I hate it as much as I love it. Rediscovering "Power Rangers" in a way. I enjoyed the newest season of "Doctor Who." I really enjoy following Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution. Stephen Hawking's "Into the Universe" series was fantastic.

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate last year?
Hate? No.

26. What was the best book you read?
"Stranger in a Strange Land" I think, or else "Sirens of Titan"

27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
.... Taylor Swift? I rediscovered Madonna, as well.

28. What did you want and get?
Power Ranger costume! :D A job! (Technically, since I got accepted to return to teaching, even though it hasn't started.)

30. What was your favorite film of this year?
Inception and Tangled, for entirely different reasons.

My dad getting one of the many, many jobs he applied for.

George Harrison and Al Stewart music, Sims 2, earplugs, my white noise maker on my iPhone. My iPhone in general.

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?

36. What political issue stirred you the most?
Prop 8 and DADT

37. Who did you miss?
princessy as she was eaten by academia.

38. Who was the best new person you met?
azelmaroark, probably.

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2010:
Some things in life are bad
They can really make you mad
Other things just make you swear and curse.
When you're chewing on life's gristle
Don't grumble, give a whistle
And this'll help things turn out for the best...

And...always look on the bright side of life...
Always look on the light side of life...

If life seems jolly rotten
There's something you've forgotten
And that's to laugh and smile and dance and sing.
When you're feeling in the dumps
Don't be silly chumps
Just purse your lips and whistle - that's the thing.

And...always look on the bright side of life...
Always look on the light side of life...

And so on.

40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
Since our problems have been our creation,
they also can be overcome
when we use the power provided
free to everyone one: this is love.

41. What was your favorite moment of the year?
Probably all of the time I spent in Colorado in May for merryshannon's wedding. Or maybe the summer trip to Newport Beach I took with urchinmoppet and Julian. Oh, watching the Perseids meteor shower ontop of the mountain in Idyllwild with urchinmoppet and Chris and being able to see the Milky Way rotating over head while we were there. That was amazing.

42. What was your least favorite moment of the year?
Right now, the first thing that comes to mind is Thanksgiving evening.

43. Where were you when 2010 began?

My cats.

45. Where will you be when 2010 ends?
Probably home alone and bored. XD

46. Who will you be with when 2010 ends?

47. What was your favorite month of 2010?
August. There was SO MUCH to do that month.

48. Did you drink a lot of alcohol in 2010?
For how little alcohol I usually drink, yes. However, I drank probably as much alcohol in all of 2010 as most people do in a month.

I don't do drugs.

50. How many people did you sleep with in 2010?

51. Did you do anything you were ashamed of this year?
Probably, though nothing is coming to mind.

52. What was the worst lie someone told you in 2010?

53. Did you treat someone badly in 2010?
If I did, it was probably unintentional.

54. Did someone treat you badly in 2010?
Some people reacted to things in ways I didn't like, but I don't think anyone was trying to be an asshole.

Gosh . . . probably like ten? I saw Al Stewart many times, Don McLean once and Peter White once.

Peter White in September in 104°F at the Temecula Thornton Winery.

57. How much money did you spend in 2010?
More than I had coming in.

I wouldn't click on that file that had a Trojan virus in it that fucked up my computer and began the downward spiral that killed it dead, Jim.

59. What was your proudest moment of 2010?
Getting in shape and not utterly hating the way I looked the first time I tried on skin tight spandex.

The one thing coming to mind is not something I care to repeat in my journal. XD SRY.

61 is missing.

62. What are your plans for 2011?
Start substitute teaching as close to fulltime as I can get, pay off my credit card debt, make some big purchases that I've been putting off for years due to lack of money (and get into more debt because of it), possibly start school again to get another degree or at least get credentialed so I can become a fulltime teacher. Continue getting in shape. Eat even better. Cut back on more caffeine. Fall in love. Move out. Take more photographs. Spend more time with my cats. Work on my novels. Read more. Draw more.

What about you?
