Career in Financial Planning

Alex is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® professional,  a Certified Exit Planning Advisor®, and a Certified Kingdom Advisor®. He is a seasoned financial advisor serving individuals, families, and business owners. He combines investment management with personalized financial planning to help clients gain clarity around their goals, invest wisely, make sound decisions, live generously, and leave a meaningful legacy.

He serves on VFA’s investment committee, which oversees portfolio management for nearly 1,000 clients.

Before co-founding VFA in 2009, Alex began his career in the industry as an investment advisor with another firm—walking some clients through Dave Ramsey’s 7 Baby Steps, advising others who had accumulated wealth, and helping all align their investments with timeless values. That early experience helped shape his conviction that financial advice should be not only fiscally sound but also aligned with clients’ values.

In 2009, Alex and his fellow co-founders took a step of faith to launch Values First Advisors, with a mission to provide investment guidance grounded in biblical wisdom. That core principle remains at the heart of the firm’s work today and has been continually shaped by the contributions of a growing and gifted team.

Today, Alex and his business partner, Benji Nunn, lead the company—guiding the team as they serve clients with excellence and intentional care.

Personal Life

He and his wife, Terri, met in college in Kentucky during a snowstorm—or as Alex likes to say, “Best snowstorm ever!” They’ve been married since 1997 and are grateful to share life with three adult children.

Now based in Jacksonville, Florida, they enjoy the warm weather and palm trees—though Alex secretly misses the occasional snow day (the romantic kind, not the shoveling kind).

Over the years, Alex has enjoyed leading youth ministries, launching small group ministries, writing discipleship resources, mentoring others, introducing people to Christ, serving on domestic and international mission trips, and remaining committed to their local church.
