Smelling Party, Writing, Website Tinkering & Rabbit Trail Links
April 2026
Greetings!
Smelling Party
On April Fool’s Day, our Geek Family will be having a Smellacious Smellatorious Scent-Sniffery aka A Smelling Party. I’ll be bringing 20+ essential oils. And my friends will be bringing an assortment of numerous odd things to smell, including a perfume named Earthworms. Should be a fun time.
I learned from two of my friends that scent professionals use coffee beans or coffee grounds to reset their noses between smelling things. To clear the air. Yes, I had to say that. But as far as I know, that’s really true.
Writing
Published the Commonplacing blog post I mentioned last month. Feel free to check it out and see what I do and for some helpful resource links and videos about personal knowledge systems. Currently I’m working on the Journaling blog post. I’ll let you know when that gets published or if you want to know right away feel free to subscribe to the blog via email on my website. There’s also an RSS feed.
Like all writers I have a book in progress that I’m slowly typing up. There’s no urgency to publish it. So I can work on it as I have time. Someday I’ll share more about it with you. But for now, its under wraps. It is a nonfiction piece.
Website Tinkering
I refreshed and clarified the homepage and created three new slash pages. Tweaked and tinkered with numerous things including various pages and polished the layout some. Not sure if I want to reorganize my main menu. Thinking of a way to minimize the top pages to five or six parent pages. Doing research on how to do a parent page menu option that isn’t clickable. Pretty content with the changes I’ve made so far. But, there’s never ending ways to update, tweak, and polish one’s website.
Links
One of the things I need to continue to do is clean up what’s called “Link Rot”. The web isn’t like print. Links eventually change, get deleted or break due to website changes or going offline. Found some dead link checkers that I’m slowly wading my way though to clean up broken links. Since I kinda always like to share interesting or relevant links, this is a concern for me.
In the Indie Web rabbit trails, stumbled upon this web design article:
Writing Hyperlinks: Salient, Descriptive, Start with Keyword
Rabbit Trails Finds
Resilient Web Design
A really neat web book on internet and website history. Includes ideas and what makes a great website. It was an interesting and fun read.
Dead Link Checkers
Standard Ebooks

The Silver Nest Network
Silver Nest Network is a supportive community for seniors, dedicated to fostering connection, friendship, and a strong sense of belonging. They provide encouragement, resources, and opportunities to help older adults live vibrant, fulfilling lives.
This is a very down to earth networking group that I discovered. If you’re in the Northern Colorado Area, check out their Facebook group for upcoming events and activities. I really like the spirit of these people.
They have an event coming up on Saturday, April 25th, from 2-4pm Mountain Time.
Support
Here are a few ways to support me if you are so inclined.
Buy Me a Book
This is a quick way to say thanks and tip me. It’s based on the Buy Me a Coffee donation platform. I don’t drink coffee, but I do have a long list of books I would like to buy. Any donation would be very much appreciated! Most of them would be ebooks. Gotta keep my room somewhat manageable.

What is a Legacy Keepsake?
Legacy Keepsakes are based on the concept of legacy interviews, where guests share their stories, values, and wisdom in a recording led by an interviewer.
