Tutorial #2
This tutorial is being done as a request. Unfortunetly I didn't have the original .psd file, but this should still produce virtually the same thing. Made with Photoshop 07.
We're going from this:
to this
We'll start out with this picture:
crop it.
#1: Use the rectangular marquee tool to select the portion of the picture that you want to keep. Then, go to select --> inverse so it selects the protion of the picture that we DON'T want. Next, go to edit --> cut to get rid of it.

#2: Paste the texture below (made by
dearest) into a layer below the current layer. Go to edit --> transform --> 90 CW

#3: Use the move tool to move and resize the image of Ashura to where you want it on the icon. Then go to layer --> duplicate layer to duplicate your downsized Ashura layer. Use the move tool to move the duplicated layer where you want it. With the duplicated layer still selected, go to layer --> merge down to merge the Ashura layers.

#3: With the marged layers still selected, go to layer --> duplicate layer and set the layer mode to soft light. Go to filter --> sharpen --> sharpen.

#4: Creat a new layer on top of everything and fill it with black. Set the layer mode to color.

#5: Use the polygonal lasso tool to select Ashura eyes. Make sure the solid black layer is selected, and go to edit --> cut.

#6: Paste the texture below (also by
dearest) on top of everything. Use the rectangular marquee tool to select the areas of the texture that you don't want. (This will be the border around the Ashura images). Use edit --> cut to get rid of it. Then go to image --> adjustments --> brightness/contrast and use the settings brightness: -8 contrast: +32 just to get it to stand out more.

#7: Make a new layer. Use the rectangular marquee tool to select where the images of Ashura are so that this is the only place the gradient shows up at. I used the gradient below (by
crumblingwalls) I used it set to radial to fill the selected area. Then set the layer mode to lighten.

#8: Next, I took 2 textures (from
dearest) and pasted them behind the non-duplicated Ashura pixtures and in front of the black and white background texture. (Textures pasted in seperate layers, doesn't matter which order.) Then used the rectangular marque tool to select what I don't want and went to edit --> cut.

#8: Use the light texture below (from
ianthinae) and paste it in the top layer. Set the layer mode to screen.

#9: Make a new layer ontop of everthing and use the rectangular marquee tool and the paint bucket (I used #666666) to create a box for text. Then add text.

#10: Completely optional, but the last thing I did was use a gradient using #282828 and #A6A6A6 set to soft light in a top layer.
