This journal will no longer be updated regularly.

I am attempting to get my livejournal life under control and I decided I could only have ONE personal account (which is also my one paid account) and as much as i love Star Wars it made more sense to compartmentalize by type instead of topic. i say "regularly" because there may still be things, such as fanmixes, which simply won't fit anywhere else so i'll post them here. Also when I return to icon-making I'll still enter icontests as vadersangel since i've built something of a reputation (lol!!). And, of course, I love the name!! ;)

Star Wars Ballet

okay, i majored in theater arts and my thesis was a dance project cause i took mostly dance classes...and one of my lil pet projects which i have recently decided to dust off and revive was The Star Wars Ballet. i think John Williams is a genius (and the AFI agrees with me - yeah!) and i think Star Wars is very theatrical - and i love Star Wars and i love ballet - SO i'm going to create a tracklist and if i can find other dancers as crazy about SW and/or John Williams' score as me hey, we might even perform it someday! i can dream! anyway, THAT is what inspired THESE photo-manips:

AnakinxObi-wan::Come Sweet Death

This has been a labor of love...upon watching all the Star Wars movies in order I've determined that the relationship between Anakin Skywalker and Obi-wan Kenobi is the most far-reaching and poignant; while Anakin/Padme drives the plot (Padme's role is transferred to Luke upon her death) Anakin/Obi-wan is truly the heart of the matter. Now, I am not an Ani/Obi shipper per se - I don't feel they're necessarily jumping into bed with eachother...but I do feel strongly that Anakin and Obi-wan love eachother dearly. Thus this is a mix made up primarily of love songs - love between a father and a son, between brothers, between the greatest of friends and the greatest of enemies - love that transcends betrayal, loss, heartbreak and even death - love that ignites the stars.

Anakin's POV: Anakin led a harsh but sheltered life on Tatooine; he believed in heroes and angels and these beliefs are strengthened when he meets Qui-gon and Padme. No one can kill a jedi he tells Qui-gon...and then Qui-gon is killed. When Anakin leaves Tatooine he leaves innocence behind, without Qui-gon and Padme he has only Obi-wan, barely more than a stranger, but all he has left.

Obi-wan's POV: In Anakin Obi-wan finds his reason for being; both Anakin and Obi-wan have a life outside of their relationship, but they are two sides of the same coin, they belong together and they belong to eachother....this begins when they are first thrown together by Qui-gon's death.

Anakin's POV: Anakin was born fighting against the restrainsts of reality, as Palpatine says as long as I've known you you've wanted to live a life of significance and he fights against the Jedi council from his first appearance before them - Obi-wan is a part of the council and the Jedi hierarchy, but he is also Anakin's closest friend and mentor and Anakin knows that Obi-wan sees him as no one else does. [Note: this song is my personal anthem and it's like it was written for Anakin honestly!]

Obi-wan's POV: Anakin's behavior is extremely frustrating to Obi-wan, but at the same time he feels compassion for Anakin's entanglements with the coucil and Palpatine. Obi-wan knows Anakin better than anyone and he worries about him. Obi-wan knows the coucil has put Anakin in an awkward position, knows the council has never really done right by Anakin (he looks so sad when he says the council is asking this of you) but he knows his place in the Jedi hierarchy and he expects Anakin to accept his even if neither of them like it. [Note: this is the most shippy song on the mix i think and i absolutely love it for AniObi; Obi-wan clearly sees Anakin as so beautiful and so vulnerable and the whole song just screams "Obi-wan knows what's coming but turns a blind eye cause he loves Anakin so much"]

He won't let me down. He never has.

Obi-wan's POV: Obi-wan cares a great deal for Anakin, he loves him as a brother and he takes responsibility for raising the boy - he's proud of the Jedi Anakin has become and he believes in him more than any of the council ever has. [Note: *saddest line in the movie*....this song can work as a Qui-gon/Obi-wan song or Obi-wan/Luke song but the lyric above just clinches it as an Obi-wan/Anakin song]

Master, I've disappointed you. I have not been very appreciative of your training . . . I have been arrogant and I apologize . . . Obi-wan, may the force be with you.

Anakin's POV: A full Jedi Knight, a hero of the Clone Wars, a husband and Obi-wan's equal, Anakin has finally grown up (though he still makes all the mistakes of arrogant youth).

Obi-wan's POV: Though he's seen it with his own eyes, Obi-wan cannot believe Anakin has betrayed them all. The task Yoda lays out for him is the hardest the council has ever given him; Obi-wan feels betrayed on all sides. He follows Padme to Mustafar with the intent to confront Anakin, he fears it's too late to bring him back.

Anakin's POV: Lost in his descent to the Dark Side Anakin sees his closest friends as his greatest enemies and the volcano that has always been a part of his nature is finally let loosed. [Note: this song is so very BratVader]

Obi-wan's POV: Any idealistic ideas that Anakin could be brought around by his words disappear when Obi-wan finds Anakin in full-on delusion - finding Anakin so far gone is the end for Obi-wan and he breaks.

The epic battle between the closest of friends - both at turns angry, desperate and hearthbroken - leaves both changed.

Obi-wan's POV: I have failed you, Anakin he says and he carries that guilt with him beyond the grave, reiterating it when he speaks with Luke after Yoda's death. Obi-wan sees Anakin as his greatest friend, his greatest enemy and his greatest failure all at once. Wouldn't it be easier to just give up?

[Note: this song is so jaunty but the lyrics are *tragic* and it's such a good song for the Angry!Manic!Anakin! left burning in lava by his best friend]

Ob-wan's POV: Obi-wan has twenty years to spend second guessing his every decision in regards to Anakin...twenty years is a very long time to live alone with your guilt and anger.

Anakin's POV: With Obi-wan's death Anakin has lost his last link to his past, or so he thinks. Anakin never learned to let go of those he loves; now he is finally, utterly alone but for Palpatine (who Anakin is smart enough to know was never the friend he thought him to be). But with Obi-wan's death - and Luke's subsequent emergence - Palpatine begins to lose his grip on Vader as Anakin starts ever so slowly to turn away from the dark.

Anakin was a good friend.

this simple phrase is very powerful when you think of the Star Wars saga as a whole: from the moment he is on screen in TPM Anakin is in love with Padme and he loves her, truly, madly, deeply until his dying day (he saves her son, the last link he has to her and turns his back on 30 years of his life). all that comes - the war on Naboo, their ten year separation, their whirlwind courtship, Shmi's death, the arena battle that sparks the clone wars, Anakin's betrayal, Padme's death and Vader's reign - is a test of Anakin's love and while it appears he falters it is in fact that love that drives him. as for Padme, she enters into the secret marriage against her better judegement and that decision eventually kills her...but she dies believing in her love and she is buried with the symbol of it. Anakin and Padme love eachother throughout it all; it's tragic and it's beautiful.

at the very end of Moulin Rouge Satine sings this out during the reprise of Come What May and i find it somewhat apropos for Anakin and Padme

this is one of my most favorite songs in the universe ;) it swells, it sings, it flies. *swoon* and of course it was written for Romeo+Juliet and eventually given to Christian and Satine - all tragic couples too in love for their own good.

To the End::AnakinxObiwanxPadme - a FanMixx, mostly from Obiwan's PoV, regarding the tragicly beautiful relationship between the PT Trio Anakin Skywalker, Obiwan Kenobi and Padme Amidala

AnakinxPadme is my Star Wars OTP but there is a great deal of chemistry between AnakinxObiwan and ObiwanxPadme as well. i don't think there's anything serious between Obiwan and Padme; Obiwan and Padme both love Anakin and their affection for eachother is a direct result. meanwhile Obiwan and Padme are clearly the two most important people to Anakin, the fact that they are the two people he harms the most is proof of his depth of feeling. so it's a tangled web of love and hurt and it's truly beautiful when you think about it. i tried to make this mixx be about the threesome entire rather than any of the twosomes (which is why there's nothing between Padme's death and Obiwan's remembrances, nor does it touch on the interaction between Vader and Ben, that's for another mixx!). it begins and ends with an older Obiwan looking back and the crux of the piece deals with RotS-era angst (mostly in order but also thematic if you get me) but while listening to each song, i invite you to remember these are people who met as children (remember, Obiwan, while older, is still a padawan in TPM), in a way they grew up together. and they love eachother...to the end.

Anakin's confessions are rather torturous for him but it is actually Padme who quietly suffers. Anakin releases his anger, his pain, his desperate emotions, but Padme holds hers in and soaks his up.

she's beautiful as usual with bruises on her ego
and a killer instinct tells her to be aware of evil men
i love this lyric, it was my email sig for a while. you might think Padme has no instinct for being aware of evil men, but she knows Dooku is a villian long before everyone else figures it out and she's not particularly fond of Palpatine (it always seemed to me she tolerated him at best). as for Anakin, i think she realizes how thin the line between good and evil Anakin walks, but she is an idealist in love - she thinks her love and his good side will win out, she thinks love is stronger thananything the Darkness can give him. she loses in the immediate, but in the final act Padme's love, via her son, is able to save Anakin - and the galaxy - from the Dark.

it is immediately clear upon their reunion in Episode II that Anakin is desperately in love with Padme and after stumbling over their first meeting he confidently woos her. Padme really has no chance, she and Anakin are all but thrown together and from the moment she says "Please don't look at me that way" it seems he does nothing else.

there is something magnetic about Anakin. even with love he brings little but sadness to Padme - every happy moment in their lives seems haunted by the overlying tragedy (this is most poignant in the balcony scene in RotS; they're so giddy they can't speak straight and it seems there's an underlying desperation guiding their words and feelings).

Musical Analysis
this song has an urgency that drives the lyrics much like the turmoil in the galaxy drives Anakin and Padme's relationship. for their entire relationship Anakin and Padme are embroiled in a galactic conflict that is much bigger than the two of them.

What's smart girl like Padme doing with a whiny brat like Anakin?

1. Padme is a giver.

First the Queen, then the Senator, Padme serves her people. She answers their call. She listens to those in need. And Anakin is someone in need. With great power comes great pain. As the most powerful Jedi ever, Anakin has more power than anyone can measure, it fills him, overwhelms him. His dark side is to be expected, those with great power tend to be depressive, lonely, needy. He needs something outside himself to remind him of life's simplicity. His mother gave him that at home and he was a happy, compassionate child. Affection is forbidden to a Jedi so as a Jedi, Obi-Wan cannot provide that stability. But Padme can.

Padme finds Anakin lonely and cold after they've left Tatooine, and Anakin's mother, behind. Padme comforts him, not knowing that she is cementing an attachment that will eventually rip them and their galaxy apart. She simply sees a child in need and responds to that need. Later, when she meets the boy grown into a young man - on the verge of great power but still plagued by fears - she continues to respond to his needs. Before their first kiss on Naboo Anakin speaks of hating sand, a conversation reminiscent of the one on board ship as it again remarks upon the differences between their planets and their childhoods. Padme is reminded of Anakin's harsh upbringing on his sandwept, hot world and caught up in the moment, she allows the kiss.

The relationship continues to grow closer despite Padme's objections, her practical side is simply not as strong as her need to help Anakin - a truth which becomes most apparent after Anakin's confession of the slaughter of the sandpeople. A clearly distraught Anakin allows Padme to witness his deepest and darkest pain and need and Padme almost instinctively responds. Padme is not afraid of Anakin's need or his destructive side, she feeds off it, finds meaning in their relationship and realizes her place is by his side trying to ward off all the pain with her love. She is a giver and in Anakin she finds her soulmate, someone who needs her as much as she needs to be needed.

2. There is nothing more attractive than someone in love with you.

Anakin has loved Padme since he first set eyes on her when he was nine years old. There is something beautifully simple in his love for her. And his darkness, his power is very charming. He treats her like an angel and a woman at the same time. Most treat Padme as someone to look up to, someone to protect, or someone to despise - never as someone to love. But Anakin does. He loves her with every look, every word, every touch.

Padme loves Anakin but her love is much quieter, simpler, sweeter than his passionate, desperate and eventually destructive love for her. Anakin is willing to give up everything he has and everything he is for Padme, indeed he becomes a monster, unrecognizable from the boy he once was, for love of her. A love that strong is hard to ignore, even in its earliest stages. Padme is everything to Anakin and when she is faced with that reality he becomes everything to her.

3. There is nothing more attractive than that which you can't have.

Padme believes very strongly in her duty. Unlike Anakin, who is willing to cheat in order to love Padme, she cannot at first bring herself to 'live a lie'. But by simply admitting she won't she gives her feelings that much more strength, her love that much more power. Padme at heart is something of a rebel. Forbidding something is the easiest way to get her to do it - or at least want to.

4. There is nothing more seductive than a secret.

Once Padme has given in to living the lie there is no turning back. Their hidden life together becomes at once dangerous and that much more precious. By setting themselves up as two lovers against the galaxy they feed their passion, their love becomes as important as their lives...or anyone else's life.

Anakin turns his back on the Jedi, his closest friend and indeed himself when he gives in to Palpatine in order to save Padme. Padme in turn refuses to hand him over to Obiwan. Faced with protecting the entire galaxy or protecting their desperate secret relationship, they blindly choose eachother.

5. Never underestimate the power of the Force.

Anakin's life fulfills a prophecy. Thus anyone touched by his life is drawn into that prophecy. Padme is destined to love Anakin simply because he loves her.

these two, just like Romeo and Juliet, are set up to fall - their destiny is almost inevitable, their depth of feeling is too much. Padme does die for him and Anakin does kill for her; Anakin waits, Padme makes room; Anakin certainly does time (as Vader) and i particularly like "sail ships for you" - i think of ESB when Vader is on a desperate hunt for Luke, he has his own little fleet chasing after one person...the only link he has left to Padme.

Musical Analysis
okay i **love** Garbage. Shirley Manson=My Hero. but what i like best about this song are the sound effects - it's starts all bumpy like there's something wrong with the cd and then there are sighs and moans (!) and it adds to the forbidden-ness of the piece.

Farewell to Naboo's Angel

Thousands gathered in the Lake Country of Naboo last night to pay final respects to their most beloved public servant. Padme Naberrie Amidala, Senator and former Queen of Naboo, was laid to rest amidst a hundred flowers and the tears of her entire planet.

Elected Queen at the tender age of fourteen, Amidala was a passionate leader. During her reign she successfully defended the planet against the droid armies of the Trade Federation; formed an alliance with the Gungans; and was instrumental in bringing about the appointment of now Emperor Palpatine to the position of Chancellor of the Republic Senate. Amidala was so adored by her people they made motions to amend the articles of the planet in order to allow her to serve beyond her term.

Amidala, however, was destined to be more than the Queen of a small planet. Appointed to the Senate by former Queen Jamilla soon following her election, Amidala was one of the brightest lights in the recently beleaguered Republic. She was one of the strongest voices within the Loyalist party to the point where her life was constantly in danger from the Separatists. Undaunted by attempts on her life Amidala valiantly fought for the Republic, both within the walls of the Senate and across the galaxy, up until her untimely death.

Senator Amidala was killed during the recent insurrection of the Jedi. The exact details of her death are unknown but her close personal ties to the Jedi, particularly Jedi Master Obiwan Kenobi and Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker, are well documented. Both Kenobi and Skywalker are missing and presumed dead after the tragic events of the Jedi revolt. It is unknown if they were a part of the conspiracy and what hand, if any, they may have had in Amidala's death.

Queen Apailana, who has called Amidala one of her heroes, called for a Day of Remembrance following the memorial ceremonies. Representative Jar Jar Binks, a Gungan councilman, was so distraught at the loss of Senator Amidala he was unable to comment but followed her during the funeral procession, head bowed and speechless. Emperor Palpatine, himself a former Senator of Naboo, was unable to attend the service but had this to say of Amidala:

"She was instrumental in bringing about the rise of our new, peaceful and prosperous Empire. Without Senator Amidala I may never have been given the chance to create this new society and for that I am ever in her debt. It is a tragedy that our new dawn must come at the expense of such a young and beautiful life but I am sure her soul may rest in peace knowing her sacrifices have returned order to the galaxy."

Padme Amidala was 27 years old. She is survived by her parents Ruwee and Jobal Naberrie; and her sister Sola Naberrie, brother in law Darred Janren and two nieces Ryoo and Pooja Naberrie . She never married, nor had any children.

i chose to open with the song i think best represents both Anakin's early life as a slave and the basic conflict between Anakin-as-the-Chosen-One and the Jedi Council. it also represents Qui-Gon Jinn, the maverick Jedi Master and his own rocky relationship with the Council which in turn colors Anakin's. finally it represents Anakin being "handed down" from Shmi to Qui-Gon to Obiwan.

[1] he was born a slave - a "hand me down" has little to no value
[2] he's passed from Watto/Shmi to Qui-Gon and then Obiwan

Anakin's relationship with the Jedi Council is one of distrust bordering on disrespect from his first encounter with them onward. the council discuss Anakin, the possibilty that he is the Chosen One and their misgivings regarding both right in front of him. two things are imprinted on him as he's a young boy [1] he's possibly the most powerful Jedi ever and [2] he's dangerous/not good enough. as a child he can't quite process these two conflicting ideas - there's something intrinsically special about him, and there's something intrinsically wrong with him. that conflict and the fact that it is directly related to how he understands and gets along with the Council haunts his choices right up until he is finally forced to choose between what the Council believes to be good and just and what he believes to be good and just.

i love this line! i see the Jedi Council as the army of kings but it could also represent Palpatine and the Republic/Senate/Empire and of course Amidala is the queen.

Musical Analysis
the Wallflowers are a laid back simple kind of band and this song has a down home feel - i see it as something Qui-Gon would listen to :) it's almost folksy, quietly lulling but a somewhat upbeat melody that belies the rather sad lyrics - this again fits the dichotomy between Anakin the Savior, the Chosen One, Born a Slave and Now a Hero (happy upbeat folksong) and Anakin the Dangerous, Tempermental, Fearful Child (sad mean lyrics).
